* BlackDudeDiesFirst: In Mongo, Prince Thun (since Munson buys it in is the opening, as well as the pilots.) The only black speaking character, whose only brief scene, early on, consists of getting skewered with his sword by Ming.Ming. This makes him the first character to die after the action moves to Mongo, although several other characters die on Earth before that as a result of Ming's engineered disasters (including the pilots of the plane that Flash and Dale were traveling on, and Zarkov's assistant, Munson).

Added DiffLines:

* NotSoInnocentWhistle: When Flash starts a fight with Ming's guards during the tribute gathering, Vultan (who already hates Ming's rule but doesn't yet dare to oppose him openly) takes the opportunity to knock out a guard who comes near him, before looking away and whistling.

* PlayingPossum: When playing "chicken" with Barin with the wood beast in the Arborian Temple, Flash feigns having been bit by the beast, which will lead to torturous madness. He begs Barin to [[MercyKilling kill him to spare him the suffering]], and when Barin prepares to, Flash snatches his sword and turns it on Barin.

Added DiffLines:

* QuicksandSucks: Flash falls into a puddle of quicksand around halfway through the movie. Although he fully sinks under, he's able to drag himself out by grabbing a tree root. He then blunders into some kind of insect whose body acts like quicksand, with the addition of its legs caging the victim in.

to:

* ATasteOfTheLash: Aura gets whipped as part of her ColdBloodedTorture. Subverted in that she seems ''bored'' with being whipped, and her torturers must resort to a harsher punishment.

%%* ThemeMusicPowerUp: A weird second-person type in that "Vultan's Theme" is one for the player ship in ''VideoGame/{{Vanguard}}''.%% Example not applying to this movie.

* TooDumbToLive: ''Seriously'', Klytus? You drop in uninvited into Prince Vultan's kingdom (the same guy whose young daughter you threatened like 24 hours ago), [[BullyingADragon attempt to arrest an already hot-headed and hostile Prince Barin]], and to top it off, you ''brag to his face'' about torturing his fiancée, joking about how she ''[[TooKinkyToTorture probably enjoyed it]]''. Should you really be all that shocked Barin and Flash bodyslammed you onto the Serta Posturepedic of Pointy Death?

* CassandraTruth: At the start, Zarkov theorizes that the disasters befalling the planet are not natural, but an attack by a hostile alien power. For this, he was fired from NASA and ostracized as a madman, but we soon learn that he's ''right''.

* DoomAsTestPrize: Ming claims that he subjects planets to induced natural disasters to see if they are capable of recognizing them as an attack and retaliating. If so they are a threat to him and get destroyed or conquered. It's possible, though, that he's just saying this to torment Professor Zarkov: the opening scene suggests that he attacked Earth [[ForTheEvulz because he was bored]] (one of the environmental attacks he can and does summon is "hot hail", which most Earthlings would surely notice is not a natural phenomenon).
