* BigBad: Ultimately, the Race is the true enemy that must be fought against. The Fithp, for all their advanced technology, only launch one major invasion of the world and a few orbital bombardments before they're taken over by Straha and serve the Race's interests for the rest of the conflict.

* DeathFromAbove: The Fithp specialize in this, using a mixture of space-based lasers and orbital bombardment to dominate the skies over lesser-developed nations and cripple their infrastructure, respectively.

Once the Race take over the Fithp, they begin using this to take out troublesome enemy forces, as well.

* EasilyThwartedAlienInvasion: Played with.

* EasilyThwartedAlienInvasion: Played with.with, but ultimately averted. The story makes it ''very'' clear that even if the Aliens are not that great at tactics, they still have huge numbers and orbital superiority. It takes a ''lot'' of work to fight them.

Added DiffLines:

* ForegoneConclusion: the second version of Worldfall makes it clear, via the format, that humanity will win the war against both the Race and the Fithp, in order for the viewpoint character to make the interviews.

* AlienInvasion: Naturally. It features two of the most popular hard sci-fi alien invaders in literature, so it's to be expected. This is averted with the other species of The Race- the Hallessi and Rabotev don't get the same narcotic effect from ginger, and are thus usually the ones assigned to guard or police the substance (they do, however, enjoy the taste).

* BringIt: Humanity's rallying cry is "[[BadassBoast Earth Will Break Before We Do]]". After taking over the Conquest Fleet and Footfall, Straha's ultimatum specifically quotes the phrase and warns he ''will'' break the planet if humanity doesn't surrender first. It ''probably'' would have been more effective had the human he forced to deliver the message not been blinking "EWBBWD" in morse code while he was saying it.

Added DiffLines:

** The US Military discusses adopting messenger pigeons again, as generally an EMP will not affect birds (unlike delicate electronics).

Added DiffLines:

* EpicFail: Poor Harpanet. The first interviewed fi' and his tale... Well, he was assigned to a landing craft that would land in the US. It gets shot out from under him, leaving him to plummet out of the sky with only his armor and life support gear... from low orbit. Then he lands and crushes a car underneath him, cracking some bones, whereupon he is now confused, terrified out of his mind (from the situation he's in and because he's never been outside before), and in pain. When the cops show up, he just gives up and surrenders... but before he can they shoot him (nonfatally). On top of all of this, he's the one who tells humanity about The Foot, allowing them to prep when it first shows up.

Added DiffLines:

* HumansAreWarriors: There are three races (technically five, but the Rabotev and Hallesi fall under the general heading of The Race), and each has their advantages and disadvantages, but humanity tends to come out on top.
** The Race has multiple advantages. They are well suited to win a conventional war, and are extremely well stocked and supplied for a campaign. They have numbers on their side, with over fifty million soldiers, and of the aliens invading, they have more ships, granting them tactical flexibility that the Fithp lack. On the other hand, the Race haven't fought a serious war since before the Emperor unified Home, and the last time they took casualties conquering another species, the total number of deaths was a few hundred. Their fast-paced foes move too fast for them and they have trouble adapting to new circumstances. The average Race soldier is much smaller than either of the other faction's soldiers they'll be fighting, and their infantry weapons are weaker. In addition, their spaceships are not armed and while they are suited for conventional warfare, that's ''all'' they're suited for. They don't start using the orbital high ground until well into the war.
** The Fithp, unlike the Race, have fought wars more recently. Their weapons technology is more advanced than that of the Race, particularly in the field of ship-based weapons. Their average soldier weighs upwards of 400 kilograms, and it's mentioned that they can just flick other races out of their path, with weapons to match. Further, they actually have adapted to space-based warfare in a way that the Race have not- they use the orbital high ground to their advantage, launching orbital strikes against enemy targets with virtual impunity. On the downside, culturally they are not suited for war at all. If they surrender, they will begin serving their former enemies without hesitation. In fact, the reason mankind knows about The Foot is that one of the captured soldiers tells them everything about it when asked. This proves a ''big'' problem with Straha takes them over. In addition, while their ship and ship-based weapons are strong, they lack numbers- both in capital ships and in troop numbers- to match the Race or allow strategic maneuvering.
** Humanity is the final race in this matchup. They have the home field advantage, but virtually no orbital assets at the start of the war. Like the Fithp, they've been fighting recently- and haven't really stopped for the last ten thousand years. That results in human tactics being chaotic and flexible, not to mention that since humanity ''lives'' on Earth, that's up to seven billion potential reinforcements. When it comes to conventional war-fighting technology, mankind has the other races licked. In addition, unlike the other two factions, human determination means that when they're captured or the territory they're in is taken, they'll keep fighting rather than submit to their enemies, as members of the Race find to their horror when they start getting hit with insurgency and suicide bombers.

* TheLastOfHisKind: The Fithp that live on Earth. [[spoiler: When Earth sent probes to Hearth, they found that all the native Fithp were dead, and there's no sign of what did it. The Fithp of Earth are all that is left of their race.]]

Added DiffLines:

** On an individual level, a Russian unit helps drive the Race out of Mongolia, and cheer their victory... only to be told that this wasn't the only place the Race landed today, and that there are ''millions'' of alien soldiers now on Earth's soil.

* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: the story describes Hallesi and Rabotev being among the Race's forces. In the books, no Rabotev or Hallesi were part of the Conquest fleet, and the first time humans meet them is when they go to Home.

** The humans initially have a ''huge'' advantage over the Race in cold climates. Because the worlds the Race lives on aren't cold enough to freeze, they never developed Antifreeze, so some of their vehicles start shutting down.

* NukeEm: Used to an alarming extent during the war. First, the Race detonates several nuclear weapons in Earth's upper atmosphere in an attempt to take out human electronics. It fails, and the Race get a taste of human anti-orbital weaponry when a Russian ICBM destroys one of their starships. [[spoiler:When the Fithp arrive in orbit, spacecraft placed in orbit by the US fire a dozen nuclear weapons at their mothership. Most are shot down, but the ''Thuktun Flishity'' is damaged enough to warrant a retreat behind the moon for repairs. Straha also attempts this trope when he deposes Atvar, sending killercraft to nuke Rome, Tehran, and several other human cities. Fortunately, all of them are shot down by Fithp orbital lasers and human defenses. Later on in the war, when the Fithp make landfall in India, the government is forced to ask Pakistan and China to launch missiles at the Fithp in order to overwhelm their absurd anti-missile defenses. It works, but Delhi and Mumbai are lost as a result. Finally, nukes start to fly like crazy in the space combat between the Archangel Michael and the invaders]]. Might be regarded as the NuclearOption instead.

* MythologyGag: Atvar, during his interview, pulls out a picture of a knight on horseback, to show what they expected to face. This is the same image he pulls out and studies at the start of the Worldwar and Colonization series, as well as the sequal "Homeward Bound."

There are two version of the story: the [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11012702/1/Worldfall-A-Timeline-of-the-Race-and-Fithp-Invasion-of-2020 original]], released in 2015, and [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12658630/1/Worldfall 2nd version]], still incomplete, being initially released in 2017. The 2nd version differs quite a bit from the original, especially in narrative style (with ''Literature/WorldWarZ''-style post-war interviews than the original's timeline listing + conventional narration) and in several details in the story itself.

The problem is that shallow detonation of multiple 100 megaton warheads (if you want to launch multiple plates) plates, which you will, because you can't aim due to it being dug into the ground) will cause catastrophic damage to the biosphere, thus it was considered as absolute last resort in case [[OrionDrive Archangel and Bog-ubiytsa]] doesn't work and the war is going ''badly'' for humans.

* FrickinLaserBeams: The Fithp use this in spades. They are used realistically, serving as anti-missile defenses capable of swatting down [=ICBMs=]. The US also develops the YAL-1 laser during the six-year preparation for the invaders, and it is implied Russia does so as well.
