* DemonicPossession: Like in canon, Shendu possesses Valmont's body after his death, unable to exit it because of the binding spell his siblings have placed on him. Also, Shendu meets Valerie for the first time possessing Jade's dormant body.

* ExactEavesDropping: When Valerie is making a delivery during her brief time as mail-girl, she ends up in Valmont's office. She hides in the closet as Valmont and Shendu are shown the [[LivingToy animated Gnome Cop]], finding out that someone has hired the Dark Hand to acquire the Talismans.

** Instead of Jade making the tattoo from the Demon Archive's cover by herself, Valerie takes her to her apartment and makes the (supposedly) fake tattoo on her. This gives the chance for Hak Foo to attack after Jade has left, leading Shendu to rescue Valerie and punishing Hak Foo (and keeping him out of the mess with the Shadowkhan and Jade).

** When Valerie is about to be sucked in by Po Kong's reopened portal, Shendu grabs her arm and tosses her into Tohru's arms.

** When Shendu's fight with Jackie in his palace is interrupted by Captain Black's men shooting rockets at the dragon, Shendu shields Valerie with his body.

** The issue with Jackie's infect to the stone-turning-venom is settled a bit differently. Valerie joins Jade in bargaining the Talismans to the Dark Hand for the antidote. It goes like in canon until Tohru is about to drop the antidote. Knowing that the Dark Hand's employer (Shendu) wants her alive, Valerie takes some blood from Jackie into a syringe and threatens to inject it into her bloodstream and possibly turn herself into stone as well. That prevents Tohru from destroying the antidote, but as the fight happens anyway and Jackie turns into stone. Valerie manages to press the needle against Tohru and force him to give the antidote, using to return Jackie back to normal. The Horse Talisman's power is discovered afterwards by Valerie using it accidentally to cure her cold.

* SealedEvilInACan: Shendu is sealed in his statue form for the first part of the story. And his siblings are sealed to [[PrisonDimension the Netherworld]].
