* BarrierMaiden: The senshi were the linchpin ensuring every world ruled by the Silver Millenium could sustain life. When they died to be reincarnated in the future, at least Thundera and Saturn became wholly unlivable, causing millions of deads.
* BecauseDestinySaysSo: When a furry talking creatures proclaims Ranma is an alien prince reborn meant to restore life to a moon of Saturn, Genma and Soun basically shrug it off as Ranma's dharma -- his soul trajectory in the Buddhist tradition. If it's meant to happen, then it will happen.
* BigotryException: Snarf isn't the greatest fan of the Silver Millenium, and is very dismissive of the Senshi. However, he's nothing but respectful towards the Princess of Saturn who was Thundera's overlord and did her best to protect the Thunderans when they asked for her help.

* CrossoverRelatives: Not only Ranma is related to people from every work by Creator/RumikoTakahashi, Ami Mizuno is the younger cousin to the Tendo girls.
* CursedWithAwesome: Ranma isn't overjoyed to transform into a humanoid feline, but on the other hand, his new transformation overrides his Junsenkyo curse so he won't turn into a girl anymore. And his Thundercat form is the very epitome of macho manliness.
* EasilyForgiven: Soun is not very happy to learn Ranma knew about Ryoga's Jusenkyo curse and nonetheless let him sleep in Akane's bed. However, Ranma gave his word and oaths are ''very'' important, especially when it comes to magic -- breaking one can actually kill you -- so the Tendo patriarch is understanding of the matter.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Genma bluntly tells Ranma that the world doesn't revolve around him. His life might be one of the stranger recorded by the Saotome family, but it doesn't prevent other people from having their own adventures -- such as his cousin Kagome being fated to leave for the Sengoku Jidai, marry a half-dog demon and become the ancestress to the Tendo family.
* MirrorCharacter: Genma Saotome manages to be a far better person than Sabato Rokudo because he's shown genuinely worrying about his wife and son, turning tricks and scam only to keep themselves afloat. On the other hand, Sabato has no remorse driving his own cousin crazy than preying on her mental illness to steal money.
* MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels: The reason why Snarf insists for people to be on a LastNameBasis with him. His given name Osbert is supposed to mean "he who monitors life-giving dynamic flow", but when humans try to use it, their lack of familiarity with the snarf language makes them tell "waste disposal humper" -- and that's the least offensive way to screw it up. At least when calling him Snarf, they won't do worse than "minion".
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: After losing several senshi in Beryl's terrorist attack against the Lunar Palace, Queen Serenity used the Silver Crystal to ensure they would reincarnate in the future. Unfortunately, it killed Sailor Saturn by ripping her soul when she was helping Lion-O to defend the Thunderan citadel -- and because the senshi were BarrierMaiden, at least two planets were left unable to sustain life in the immediate aftermath. Needless to say, Snarf is deeply bitter and not the greatest fan of the late Queen.
* TheOphelia: Courtesy of her cousin using her for a scam, Nodoka was forced to remember all her previous lives -- and it's implied some were ''very'' traumatizing -- leaving her unable to care for herself and potentially a danger to her young son. Genma is very affected by the situation and muses the worst thing in the thing is having his wife back once in a while, only to lose her again the next day.
* PowerMisidentification: When meeting Ranma after the martial artist unlocked his Thundercat inheritance, [[Series/{{Highlander}} Adam Pierson]] is noticeably wary -- obviously thinking Ranma is an Immortal, and asking if the younger man plans to master swordsmanship in the future.

* UndyingLoyalty: Snarf went into suspended animation for millenia in order to wait for Lion-O to reincarnate. When informed of Ranma's existence, he immediately seeks the young man to give him the Sword of Omens, inform him of his destiny and help him to become a man worthy to take the throne and restore Thundera's biosphere.
* UnequalRites: Magic users tend to focus on mana manipulation, martial artists favor chi manipulation. It's ''possible'' for someone to wield both energies, but it never happened until Ranma.
* WeirdnessMagnet: The man who became the ancestor to the Saotome lineage was the illegitimate son of Oda Nobunaga, in this universe an avatar of Mara -- Genma blames this connection to the mystical for the fact that every single generation of the family since is drawn into wacky adventures, such as his son being a reborn alien prince or his niece traveling back to the Warring States Era to fall in love with a half-demon.

* BreakingTheScientist: Soun and Genma made a point of avoiding physicists because they take it badly when a martial artist casually ignores reality to do cool stuff. Also, doctors have nervous breakdowns when they see Ranma's near miraculous recovery rate, so it's better to ask for a qi healer.

Ranma is decidedly ambivalent about the whole thing. Genma blames Fate for this.
