[[spoiler:In this story, the Spring Maiden was so desperate to be rid of her responsibility that she considered joining Salem. Raven fought her to the death because her distrust of Ozpin does not blind her to the fact that Salem is infinitely worse.]]
* AdaptationalVillainy: Downplayed in that the character does not display any evil traits, but Ozpin is portrayed in a more negative light here than canon. Jaune thinks of him as a man who will happily sacrifice as many pawns as necessary to destroy Salem. Given that the original timeline where everyone followed Ozpin ended with the deaths of everyone Jaune loved, he has good reason not to trust him.

In this WebAnimation/RWBY story written by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/6272865/Coeur-Al-Aran Coeur al'Aran]] [[PyrrhicVictory Salem lies defeated but at the cost of all of the main cast but Jaune dead and most of the world in ruins.]] With her dying breaths Salem offers Jaune a deal: use the Relics to send Jaune into the past so that he can hopefully change enough to prevent this outcome from happening, either in Jaune's favor with Salem defeated and his friends still alive or in Salem's with her defeat prevented. Having nothing else to live for Jaune accepts.

DramaticIrony: Jaune's plan to not effect the past too much in order to best make use of his knowledge of the future is already impossible because by the time he's thought of it [[spoiler: he's already prevented the death of Summer Rose.]]
