Pokeumans originally was a fanfic series by a user named Pokemonmanic3595, but then other people took interest in the concept and a whole online group on deviantART was born of writers [[RecursiveFanfiction who wanted to produce their own series based on the concept]], with hundreds of spin-offs and side-stories creating [[FanVerse a huge]] SharedUniverse.

Millions of years ago, not long after the dinosaurs were wiped out, humanity was developing. [[AlternateHistory However]], alongside humans were a race of strange creatures that would now be recognised today as Pokemon. They lived with the humans and, as they were far more advanced, helped them grow. They worked together and lived together in harmony. Some Pokemon even found stones that could [[{{Humanshifting}} temporarily turn them into humans]] and lived closely with the humans, marrying and having children. All was well, for now.

* DespairEventHorizon: Chapter 14 mostly consists of Brandon going across this and slowly coming back.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Chapter 17 sees Brandon and co beat up no less than [[spoiler: Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Reshiram and Zekrom. In one chapter, although two were offscreen.]]

** This also leads to AlternateIdentityAmnesia, which causes them to not remember anything that happens when the other takes control, except for a strange sense of 'Did I just go somewhere?' [[spoiler: Mew]] even seamlessly finishes his sentence on return.

* RunningGag: Brandon getting knocked out. It's been dropped in later installments, but at his peak he was going about five times a chapter.

* SuperpoweredGenetics: Powerful ones, even by the normal standard - these hijack your entire genetic code and kick in after ''centuries''.

* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain: The ''Chosen'' series, which everyone (including its own author) acknowledges as a perfect example of how not to do it (particularly its GodModeSue protagonist). Mentioning it and being told to shush up has become a sort of [[MemeticMutation group in-joke]].

* PsychicDreamsForEveryone: And we mean everyone (see PetPeeveTrope on the YMMV tab).

* PetPeeveTrope/ DiscreditedTrope: Some tropes were overused in early stories and still are to the point of becoming group cliches, and some stories can become a flat-out ClicheStorm:

** NonStandardCharacterDesign
** MarySue/InvincibleHero etc
** OutOfFocus (characters in early chapters being prone to never appearing again, even after [[NominalImportance getting a]] [[SubvertedTrope name]].)
** FlatCharacter.
** DreamingOfThingsToCome (as a way to open the story)\\
However, TropesAreNotBad. Some of these (such as the first three) are acceptable so long as there's a good [[JustifiedTrope justification]].
* PsychicDreamsForEveryone: And we mean everyone (see PetPeeveTrope).

* YouCantGoHomeAgain: See SlidingScaleOfIdealismVsCynicism: much personal drama and angst has been brought out in multiple series over this issue.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Reggie says that he was considering becoming a base headmaster.

* AscendedFanon/ CanonImmigrant: The Board Of Dream Messengers was a concept created in the wake of the extremely high number of people with a SpiritAdvisor appearing in series. It was introduced in the ''Ares'' spin-off, but is now widely recognised as the group.
** The use of the term 'Extinctionist' to refer to Pokextinction members first appeared in an early spin-off.
** The official name of the knock-out gas carried by Pokextinction sleeper agents (Concoction Subconica) was first used in the ''Dragon Island'' spin-off. Similarly, the name of the coma that transforming Pokeumans often go into (Metamorphic Comatose, or ''[[AltumVidetur Segnis]] [[BilingualBonus scriptor]]'') first appeared in the ''Winner Takes All'' story.
