** Every 5 years a large group of Reptidal, both wild and trained, gather together to hold a contest to test their strength, and the winner gains the title "Ocean Champion".

* BreakTheHaughty: Wingill is completely confident in himself and Fin, his Reptidal. He constantly mocks Flash and Riptide for [[spoiler:their loss against Lightning in the Hoofington Battle Tournament]] and brags it will be a cinch to beat them and [[spoiler:become Ocean Champions]]. But when the two of them battle Wingill gets frustrated when they won't go down, and is completely gobsmacked upon losing to them, returning Fin and leaving without another word.

* EverythingsBetterWithSparkles: A few shiny Pokémon have appeared throughout the series, including the shiny Opaline from "A Thief in the Night", Princess the shiny Skeidran, and Astro, Flash's shiny Starvern.

** Flash's first battle with Thorax ends up being one. Thorax easily beats his first two Pokémon with just his Movine, with it only losing to Viper due to being exhausted, only for Thorax to then send out his strongest Pokémon, Kingsect, and easily deal with Viper. This battle served as a [[WakeUpCallBoss wake-up call to Flash, showing him he actually ''needed'' to strategize and train before big battles instead of just going LeeroyJenkins, or ''every'' battle would end up like this.

* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: In canon, Holder's Boulder, the giant rock on the Pie family Rock Farm, was found in a dragon's nest and the farm was built around it. Here, it is explained that generations ago the boulder was formed during a confrontation with Regirock, Terrakion and Diancie, three Legendary Rock-type Pokémon.

** Flash proved to Twilight and Doc previously that you can't plan for everything, but he himself later learns the importance to making a strategy and planning ahead when he suffers a CurbStompBattle against Thorax. As it turns out, pure faith alone and only every relying on LeeroyJenkins won't always cut it, with Twilight pointing out some of Flash's other losses as further proof of this.

** Sombra seems like a [[VillainWithGoodPublicity successful entrepreneur and business man]], with even Flash and his friends liking him and thinking he is a good, if a bit aggressive, man. But he is actually the leader of Team Shadow, the main antagonists of the series

** "Lightning Strikes Twice" has Flash lose to Lightning in their rematch 2-1, and Lightning has some very UnsportsmanLikeGloating over it, believing it proves that Flash's team is weak.

* ToxicFriendInfluence: The more Twilight spends with Timber Spruce, the more she reverts back to her old way of thinking, believing that everything the Pokedex says is absolute, and not thinking outside the box at all. She also noticeably becomes a lot more aggressive and rude with Flash, causing [[PlotMandatedFriendshipFailure a massive strain on their friendship]] due to constantly comparing him to Timber.

* TheDogBitesBack: Gloriosa says that the the Magikarp in Camp Everfree's lake always found itself on the receiving end of mean tricks from the other Pokémon, and that it was only a matter of time before it hit its RageBreakingPoint. This finally ends up happening when Lightning Blitz kicks it away from him when it won't leave him alone. This is the last straw for it, and it evolves into Gyarados, going on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge before it is knocked out by Clauncher.

* {{Expy}}: Several of the original Pokémon native to the Equestria region have their designed based on characters from other existing franchises, like Franchise/{{Digimon}}, WesternAnimation/HowToTrainYourDragon, or even WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic.

* HeroicBSOD: Flash goes through one after the end of the Hoofington Battle Tournament results in [[spoiler:him losing to Lightning Blitz yet again, and by a big margin]]. He enters a state of depression, feeling he let everyone down and couldn't keep his promise to Grand Hoof, and questioning if his way of training his Pokémon is right after all. This is later made even worse when [[spoiler:Hopper needs to leave his team to become the next King of the Dragons]], with Flash feeling he is even weaker now. He finally comes out of it in "The Pokérus Training Ground", after getting an [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre encouraging talk]] from Twilight.
* HesBack: After suffering from a HeroicBSOD since the end of the Hoofington Battle Tournament, which was made worse by [[spoiler:Hopper's departure]], Flash finally returns to his old self in the climax of "The Pokérus Training Ground", with his Pokémon stronger than ever, and delivering a CurbStompBattle to Big Score, Rickashay, and Boulder.

* MisdirectedOutburst: In "The Pokérus Training Ground", Flash, in the middle of a HeroicBSOD and suffering from sleep-deprivation from training for three days straight, yells at his friends that he is sick of them acting like know-it-alls, bossing him around, and getting in his way, even saying that maybe he would be better off traveling alone without them holding him back. His friends are all [[StunnedSilence stunned silent]] by this, and Flash just resumes his training. He apologizes to them later after getting ahold of himself.

* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: When Astro is poisoned by an Ariados's poison sting, Flash has all five of his remaining Pokémon attack the Ariados at once, sending the spider flying.

* TooMuchAlike: Twilight gets along great with Timber because they are so similar, but she realizes that the two of them are ''too much'' alike. Spending time with him made her [[AesopAmnesia forget everything she learned traveling with Flash]] and revert to her old way of thinking. So she ultimately decides to stay with Flash instead of go traveling with Timber, because if she stayed with Timber she would never learn anything new.

Spending time with him made her [[AesopAmnesia forget everything she learned traveling with Flash]] and revert to her old way of thinking. So she ultimately decides to stay with Flash instead of go traveling with Timber, because if she stayed with Timber she would never learn anything new.

Vocanctus, a city on the ocean protected by a Legendary Pokémon. Every year, a festival is held to give thanks to that Pokémon and prayers for another year of protection. But as the celebration begins again, dark and dangerous forces look to cause mayhem and take the power of this Pokémon for themselves. To stop it, our heroes must help a young girl overcome her demons and find her voice once again. If they can't, the whole region will soon find itself facing great peril. It was completed on August 29th, 2020.

* DisappointedInYou: Drayce tells his son Ryu that he has brought great shame to their people for his bad attitude toward their guests, and how he has [[WellIntentionedExtremist constantly tried to force his ideas on everyone else without listening to reason.

* PlotMandatedFriendshipFailure: Flash and Twilight spend practically 2/3 of the entire Camp Everfree arc at each other's throats, and nobody really doing anything to help either of them. It got to the point where they almost decided to stop traveling together entirely. Luckily they both realize [[JerkassRealization they have been acting like jerks to eachother]] and make up.

** Subverted later when Lightning tries to catch a Grizzor. He lost to the Grizzor himself, but when it was worn out from batteling and taken to Camp Everfree to be healed, he tries to catch it while it is weak. Flash knocks the Pokeball away though and Lightning is forbidden from trying to catch Grizzor while it is in camp. He waits to ambush it outside of camp the moment it leaves, only for it to choose to stay with Fluttershy instead.
