* FamedInStory: Ryoma is a Level 4 adventurer of the Amaterasu Familia, making him an elite second-class adventurer as well as a mediator between the factions. His wife, Oryou, is even more powerful, a Level 6 adventurer on par with the strongest adventurers from the Loki and Freya Familia.

* RePower: The Servants do not have the same strength and speed they once did with their spiritual bodies as incarnated humans. Because of this, Kojiro initially struggles against a Level 2 Adventurer he could have easily trounced as a Servant. However, Servants who join a familia grow unusually quickly once they're given falna. Ryoma and Oryou are able to reach Level 4 and Level 6 respectively within a decade, regaining their lost strength in the process. Compare this to the average adventurer who can spend their entire career without a level up.

* SimultaneousBladeSpam: Shinjiro the "Wind Blade" is known for his mastery of Shohato, a technique that allows him to swing twice in the same instant. Kojiro one-ups him in their duel with his Tsubame Gaeshi, swinging three times in the same instant to completely deny any possibility of escape.

They soon discover a plot to shame the Sanjounos, traitors and smugglers at the port, and the beginnings of a civil war between the Far East's big factions.

* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Bell set out on his adventures in hopes of a RescueRomance. So when Haruhime gets in trouble, he demands Kojiro help him save her even though the matter has nothing to do with them.

* PiratesWhoDontDoAnything: Discussed. As a child, Bell had more than one ImagineSpot about being a pirate sailing the high seas with his crew, discovering new lands, new people, and new animals... but not actually doing any piracy the way a "bad" pirate would.

* OldMaster: Hachiman exudes this persona despite being eternally youthful as a god. His Divine Arms techniques are the envy of everyone in the Far East as the pinnacle of martial arts, leading others to join his familia in pursuit of them.

* DramaticIrony: Bell wanted to go to Orario to save a girl in the Dungeon and get her to fall in love with him as his grandpa always told him to. By visiting the Far East, Bell already accomplished this when he befriended and rescued Haruhime.

* GildedCage: Haruhime is noble girl of high standing due to being born into the Sanjouno family. But she's constantly locked in her family's luxurious estate due to her importance as its heir and her powerful support spell in Uchide no Kozuchi. Bell is the first one to dare to try and sneak her out, much to her father's outrage and Amaterasu's amusement.

* WrongContextMagic: When Kojiro kills Shinjiro with his Tsubame Gaeshi technique, Araki accuses Kojiro of using magic, who simply denies using any. After all, who would believe that a man could possibly swing thrice with one motion through skill alone?

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Although "Wind Blade" Shinjiro is praised for reaching the peak of swordsmanship in the Far East through the teachings of Hachiman, Kojiro isn't impressed. Slashing twice at the same time simply doesn't compare to Kojiro's sublime and unescapable Tsubame Gaeshi, and he proves it when he defeats and kills Shinjiro in a duel.

* KatanasAreJustBetter: This is the most popular type of sword in the Far East. Both "Crimson Moon" Araki and "Wind Blade" Shinjiro wield one, as does Kojiro. As a parting gift, Ryoma hands Bell a katana and a wakizashi.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: Oryou is the most powerful force in the Far East, easily defeated a Level 5 adventurer with brute force alone. She's also spacey, obsessed with eating frogs, and violently protective of her husband. When Bell calls her a wise woman for her RightMakesMight philosophy, Haruhime has to suppress the urge to snark otherwise.

* WorldsStrongestWoman: Oryou is revered and feared as the strongest adventurer of the Far East, putting every other adventurer in the Amaterasu, Hachiman, Tsukuyomi, and Susanoo Familia to shame.

* {{Ambadassador}}: Ryoma is known as Peacemaker for mediating between the various factions in the Far East and is a formidable fighter in his own right, even if he isn't quite as strong as his wife.

* ShoutOut: "Crimson Moon" Araki is a twofer reference. His title is a reference to the Crimson Moon of ''VisualNovel/{{Tsukihime}}'', while his BareFistedMonk fighting style and name are references to Hirohiko Araki and his manga, ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdvanture''.

** Although Amaterasu is unambiguously good, the nature of politics in the Far East come down to this. Most notably, Ryoma manages to convince Susanoo not to turn the Far East into a Social Darwinist war zone by convincing him that enemies lie beyond the Far East's borders rather than within, sparing the weak and innocent at the cost of convincing him to become fearful of outsiders and want to conquer them.
** Kojiro is also this. Casually killing others who cross him and Bell even when more peaceful solutions are possible. But the people he goes up against tend to be much worse, like slavers and child kidnappers.

There's also Amaterasu, whose obsession with order is so strong that she wants to get rid of Amaterasu, and by extension Oryou.

* JerkassGod: Susanoo, who'd like to see the Far East turned into something resembling Telskyura, an isolationist country where people fought and killed each other to produce the strongest warriors. Despite this, he too is a FatherToHisMen, which is why he hasn't escalated into outright CivilWar yet.

* LightningBruiser: Oryou has nearly maxed physical stats, can easily whether the punches of a Level 5 adventurer, and can crush the rooftop of a building with a single blow. She's also fast enough to leave clouds of dust in her wake and dash from the edge of Sekigahara to the Sanjouno palace and back within a few minutes.

Because of this, he feels nothing when killing others and tends to solve most of his problems with violence, whether it's slitting the throats of men trying to kill Bell or threatening to kill a man if he doesn't confess his crimes. Even after a hard-fought duel against a Level 2 adventurer that ends with the latter in pieces, Kojiro's only real reaction is satisfaction from achieving his Tsubame Gaeshi again. As Bell comes to grips with this, he starts to worry if Kojiro cares about him at all, though Kojiro's own perspective shows that he cares about Bell more than he ever thought he would.
