* DeliberateValuesDissonance:
** The concept of ''not'' [[RevengeBeforeReason holding grudges]] is pretty damn alien to Westerosi. The concept of [[EnemyMine bitter enemies joining forces to combat common threats]] baffles them even more than the concept that SuicideIsShameful.
** On the flipside, Chief finds the feudalistic lifestyle the people of Westeros live by is barbaric. It's noted that, while he hates in on a moral level, he's more exasperated by how monumentally inefficient the system is.

* {{Hypocrite}}: When Tyrion begs Master Chief not to spread the news of the Lannincest because it would lead to the death of innocents (Myrcella and Tommen), Chief points out that Bran was also an innocent, yet Jaime had no trouble in trying to kill him.

* InSpiteOfANail: [[spoiler:Bran ''still'' has his fall from the tower.]] Not only that, while John is able to [[spoiler: find forensic evidence that implicates Cersei and Jaime in Bran's fall, he can't do anything with it. As Tyrion points out, outing them will set forth a chain of events that will lead to their children being murdered and Westeros erupting into a Civil War. The best John can do is threaten Jaime into leaving Bran alone with a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown.]]

** The Starks musing over the animal themed naming of UNSC vehicles and commenting that the warthogs lack the tusks of the creatures they are familiar with, instead saying they share more similarities with the mountain lions, or [[Machinima/RedVsBlue pumas]].

* DeliberateValuesDissonance: The gathered Westerosi wonder why Chief's compatriots would not commit suicide when they were crippled in war, and are stunned into confused silence when he replies that where he comes from [[SuicideIsShameful suicide is an unforgivable sin]] in one of his people's biggest religions, since they consider someone living as a cripple to be a burden to themselves and their family.

* CultureClash: As noted under YMMV, the people of Westeros consider the idea of [[EnemyMine putting aside old hatreds to face a common foe]] to be mind-boggling. On the flipside, John considers the feudal system both morally wrong and monumentally inefficient (with heavier emphasis on the latter, though probably just because he hasn't seen the scale of suffering the smallfolk face daily).

* CurbStompBattle: see OneManArmy.

* SureLetsGoWithThat: When Robert demands to know why [[spoiler: Jamie and the Kingsguard got into a fight with the Master Chief, John and Jamie are put on the spot trying to hide the fact that the fight was really because John had discovered the Lannister's affair. Robert eventually "[[WrongGenreSavvy deduces]]" that is was Cersei overreacting to John's FelonyMisdemeanor and sending the Kingsguard to "defend the honor of the king", which John and Jamie both go along with to avoid starting a chain of events that would lead to a civil war.]]

* LuminescentBlush: When Luwin jokes that the Spartan and Cortana argue LikeAnOldMarriedCouple, Cortana momentarily turns red and pink. The Spartan is left worried because TurningRed is usually a sign of [[AIIsACrapshoot impeding rampancy]].

** The fairy tales Cortana tells to the Stark children are about [[WesternAnimation/{{Frozen}} a princess with ice powers]], [[WesternAnimation/{{Brave}} a red-haired princess that uses a bow]], [[WesternAnimation/TheSwordInTheStone a boy who pulled a sword out of a stone]] and [[WesternAnimation/MonstersInc the monsters behind all the doors]].

* OddFriendship: Maester Luwin, an old human Westerosi scholar, and Cortana, the most advanced and knowledgeable AI the UNSC ever made, veteran of a galactic war and a battle 100,000+ years in the making, thousands of lightyears outside of the galaxy. They both fascinate each other, and neither expected to find such a sharp academic mind to interact with in a place and time like this.

* ProperlyParanoid: With his very recent experiences with the Flood, John is ''not'' inclined to take any remotely compelling signs of the White Walkers go without investigation.
** He has similar issues with Lysa's letter.

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Even alongside the likes of the Starks, John comes across as one when it comes to matters outside the scope of what Westerosi rulers normally deal with.

* SacredHospitality: Abruptly held during Robert's feast when [[spoiler:Mance Ryder]] made his presence known. It is no surprise that [[spoiler:Mance's]] guest rights prevent the lords from outright murdering him on the spot.

* FelonyMisdemeanor: Cersei hates Master Chief for the high crime of ''not kneeling before her''. [[spoiler:Jaime uses that excuse to attempt to arrest/kill him after he saves Bran while keeping him safe in the ''Forward Unto Dawn''.]]

* BrokenPedestal: Like in canon, Jon is disappointed about the Night's Watch. This also causes Jon to instead joining the Spartan's auxiliary corps.

* MedievalStasis: in spite of the Spartan's presence for several millenia, things do not seem to have changed that much. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] because neither he nor Cortana can remain for long periods of time out of stasis to lead. He does, however, provide gunpowder weapons during the Dance of Dragons.

* TheFarmerAndTheViper: Master Chief mentions "The Frog and the Scorpion", telling Sansa that Joffrey will never give a damn about her beyond caring for how much he can harm her.
* FunWithAcronyms: One story has the Chief modifying a Mantis Armor Defense System for Tyrion, dubbed the "Heavy Ordnance Battle Bot: Instigator of Terror", or [[Literature/TheHobbit H.O.B.B.I.T.]]

* RageBreakingPoint: Master Chief was perfectly willing to walk away from a confrontation with Jaime Lannister and his fellow Kingsguard, ignoring every taunt the Kingslayer gave... until Jaime insinuated that [[spoiler: Bran, who is recovering nicely from his fall thanks to the Spartan's aid, might suffer ''[[WouldHurtAChild another]]'' tragic fall.]] That causes Chief to [[TranquilFury turn around]], and Jaime [[BullyingADragon soon comes]] [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to regret it]]. [[CurbStompBattle Immensely]].

[[spoiler:When Master Chief accuses Jaime of pitching off Brandon from the tower, he leaps to his siblings' defense as a Lannister. As the Spartan guides him through the evidence, he remains flippant, confident that he can wave off the accusations... until he's told Brandon's awoken and told Master Chief damning testimony that would doom Jaime and Cersei if the King learned about it. At this, he sinks and desperately begins wondering what he can do to buy the Spartan's silence.]]

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: As Mance explains to Robert, this is how the Freefolk operate - he had to outfight and outwit his rivals in order to unite them and bring them south.

* CelibateHero: Master Chief. JustifiedTrope, because of the treatments he underwent when he became a Spartan. Naturally, every noble in the North immediately tries to rope him into a political marriage. Also the prostitutes like Ros frequently tries to seduce him to no avail.

* EasyLogistics: Defy by Master Chief as he explains to Jeor Mormont the massive, difficult undertaking to fortify the Wall, even with the full backing of the Seven Kingdoms.

* HiddenDepths: Chief ends up showing philosophical and societal insights that you wouldn't normally expect from a SuperSoldier. Additionally, while he does muse about the [=UNSC=] occupying and uplifting Planetos, he isn't condescending about it. He also treats the Freefolk with respect, even though they are essentially barbarians by ''Planetos'' standards. WordOfGod is that this comes from the exclusive education he received from Halsey that none of the other Spartans had.

* ShutUpGunshot: The Master Chief avoid doing this during the tense meeting between the Night's Watch and Wildlings as it would only worsen the situation by causing everyone to panic and ruining any chance of knowing about the White Walkers. Instead he amplifies his voice to quell any conflict between these two groups.

* TokenGoodTeammate: As far as Robert is concerned, Ser Aerys Oakheart is the only member of the Kingsguard who is both competent and trustworthy.

The Master Chief also make sure to carefully not [[NeckSnap snap]] the Wildling's neck or even ''decapitating'' him while in his [=MJOLNIR=] armor.
