** Jack and Maddie Fenton getting [[WhatTheHellHero called]] [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech out]] for their approach to ghosts being unscientific is a pretty popular story element; given that they pride themselves as scientists, it almost always triggers a MyGodWhatHaveIDone out of them.

** A lot of stories reflect on Cosmo and Wanda's failing relationship, as well as how they met and how their Anti-Fairy counterparts met. There are many fanfics about [[EvilCounterpart Anti-Poof's]] birth.

** V.I.L.E. agents get their hands on a member of Team Carmen and pull an IHaveYourWife scenario. This gets particularly [[NightmareFuel nightmare]] and [[FridgeHorror horror]] inducing if they manage to find and abduct Player; not only is he [[AdultFear significantly younger than his allies]], but (unlike Zack, Ivy and redeemed!Gray) he would also be unable to defend himself, being the team's NonActionGuy.

Rarely, A.C.M.E. tries the same trick to get information on Carmen and her connections, again usually with Player; this backfires ''horribly'', destroying any chance of Carmen trusting them.
*** A recent variation has V.I.L.E. agents attempting to abduct Player and while they fail, they still succeed in rendering him an orphan and homeless (or just homeless if the story in question has him being a MinorLivingAlone).

** There are a few fanfics about [[JackassGenie Norm]] [[GenieInABottle the Genie]] falling in love with a female genie master OriginalCharacter [[MoralityPet who treats him right]].

This can also be done with him becoming a ParentalSubstitute to a child master [[MoralityPet who endears themselves to him]].

** Stories where Arnold finds out about Helga's terrible home life and is ''furious'' are pretty popular.

** Any story featuring the Loud children in their future adult lives will invariably have Lincoln as a comic book artist or cartoonist, even though that's just one of his potential goals in life. After all, it's the one occupation Lincoln already shows talent at and considered the most fitting to him thanks to the show's very own comic book aesthestic.

** With his [[HeelFaceTurn return to being Rapunzel's ally]], fics with Varian dealing with the emotional baggage resulting from turning against Rapunzel over something that was his own fault or that feature someone feeling Varian hasn't made up for his actions while an antagonist taking revenge on him have started to crop up.

** Variant A: [[{{Shipping}} Ship]] Baloo with Rebecca, all the way to their wedding if you can.
** Variant B: Baloo adopts Kit.
** Variant A + B.
** Variant C: Ship Kit with Molly in a fic that takes place in an early [[The Fifties '50s]]-like future, preferably in a fic in which young adult Kit goes to war. Mutually exclusive with the variant A + B combination for obvious reasons.

Added DiffLines:

** The series is prone to IncestYayShipping, which is given the nickname "Loudcest" and usually involves shipping Lincoln with his sisters, ''even Lily''.
** In the episode "Sleuth or Consequences?", Lucy clogs the toilet trying to [[FunWithFlushing flush a comic she's embarrassed about liking]] and Lincoln takes the fall for it. Quite a few fanfics involve her admitting that she was the one who clogged the toilet.
** One of Lisa's experiments causing something weird to happen to one/two/several/all of her siblings is common (for instance, one fanfic involves Lincoln being shrunk and another involves all the Loud kids switching bodies).

Added DiffLines:

* ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'':
** Some fanfics involve Homer or Marge [[YourCheatingHeart cheating on their spouse]] with either Maude or Ned.
** Relatively common are troll stories that involve someone (usually either Lisa or Ned, possibly for shock value as they're canonically two of the most morally-righteous characters) doing something gross and/or immoral.

Added DiffLines:

* With TheMovie's release, works about [[spoiler:[[TragicVillain Spinel]]]] coming to Earth early are common.

* ''WesternAnimation/CarmenSandiego'': When it comes to writing [[IdiosyncraticShipNaming Red Crackle]], the most used plot is one where Gray regains his lost memories and teams up with Carmen to try and get back at V.I.L.E.
** V.I.L.E. agents get their hands on a member of Team Carmen and pull a IHaveYourWife scenario. This gets particularly [[NightmareFuel nightmare]] and [[FridgeHorror horror]] inducing if they manage to find and abduct Player since Zack, Ivy and redeemed!Gray would have been able to put a decent fight before going down; NonActionGuy Player has no such abilities.

* WesternAnimation/PJMasks: One of the Masks is kidnapped by an enemy, which can either be one of the canon enemies, typically either Romeo or Night Ninja (though stories with Luna Girl in this role do exist), or an original character. Torture and BreakTheCutie (both for the kidnapping victim and their worried friends) frequently ensues.
** A kid finds a Night Totem and joins up the team. Girls are popular since it creates a GenderEqualEnsemble but boys appear frequently.
*** Similarly next gen fics featuring the children of the Masks following in their footsteps are pretty popular.
** One of the villains does a HeelFaceTurn due to LoveRedeems. This is most common with Luna Girl having fallen for Greg or Connor but stories where [[LesYay she's fallen for Amaya]] or Romeo falls for Amaya [[HoYay or one of the boys]] do exist.

** In general, a lot of fics utilize Peridot, Jasper, and Lapis as a sort of "Homeworld Trio," either as a secondary group of protagonists or a team of PsychoRangers. In-show, the three only interacted as a group for the season one finale, and though they appear together in the extended opening, the trio never really were a team; in fact, with the exception of [[spoiler:Lapis and Peridot, and even then, that took a while]], they all dislike each other.

Added DiffLines:

* One of ''the'' most popular genres of ''WesternAnimation/WinxClub'' fanfic is the "Next Generation" fics. These generally star the children of the Winx, who form their own club like their parents. When done well, they can explore how the canon characters mature over the years. [[SturgeonsLaw Usually]], however, the new characters end up being carbon copies of their parents, with similar powers, names, and personalities. Thus there has been a growing backlash to the genre in recent years.

** 'Reveal fics' where somebody, usually Danny's parents, discover that their son is half-ghost are pretty common. There are two main varieties when it comes to Danny's parents. The first usually has Danny having to save their lives, exposing himself in the process. The second, known in-fandom as "dissection fics", appropriately have his parents capture him and attempt to dissect/torture/kill him before the reveal is made, hence the nickname. Sometimes they only make it during or after the vivisection.

Meanwhile, reveal fics focusing on other characters are more likely to have other plots, such as Mr. Lancer's concern for his mysteriously troubled student leading him to discover the vivisection.truth, or one or all of Danny's classmates getting trapped somewhere with him until he has to use his powers in front of them.

** There are also many fics which explore the nature of ghosts (either through the lens of Danny's ghostly nature or not), their society, and/or the Ghost Zone.

* ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'':
** The fics include a veritable phalanx of stories, called "competition stories", that depict a new season at Camp Wawanakwa (the original venue) or elsewhere. The contestants may be canon characters, {{original character}}s, or any combination.
** Crossovers are fairly common, pulling in characters from other works as contestants.
** A common theme of {{Whole Plot Reference}}s developed, the majority of which involve ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' (usually using Gwen and Trent or Courtney and Duncan as Bella and Edward, respectively, then later with [[FanPreferredPairing Gwen and Duncan]] filling the roles).
** A lot of fanfics are about a season where reviewers can apply for a spot on the show.
** Several fics like to think about just what Mike went though in order to have [[SplitPersonality Dissociative Identity Disorder]]. Following ''All-Stars'', his time in juvie also became a popular topic.
** It's not uncommon to see fics where the producers [[ExecutiveMeddling start cracking down on Chris's reckless behavior]].
** It's common to see fics that feature Ezekiel and Dakota being cured of their [[BodyHorror respective mutations]] and becoming contestants again, since both characters have [[EnsembleDarkhorse plenty of fans]] that believe they didn't deserve the fates they received in canon.
** One popular fanfic concept is to take the casts of ''Island'', ''Revenge of the Island'', and ''Pahkitew Island'', along with the two newcomers from ''World Tour'' (with characters from ''WesternAnimation/TheRidonculousRace'' sometimes thrown in for good measure), and randomly 'shuffle'[[note]]coined by the Fanfic/TotalShuffledIslandSeries[[/note]] their debut seasons around, leading to vastly different seasons and casts from canon.
** {{Fix Fic}}s of ''Action'' and ''All-Stars'' (the two most hated seasons) are incredibly common, improving upon and changing whatever the author didn't like. ''All-Stars'' fanfics in particular always make Mal's actions a lot more malevolent [[PokeThePoodle than they usually were]], and take away everyone's {{Idiot Ball}}s.
* ''WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck'' fanfic writers ''love'' fics involving someone helping a woobified Megavolt cure his memory loss, after which he remembers Drake as a friend or some long lost love/relative, causing him to make a HeelFaceTurn (usually playing it all a lot more seriously than the show did). This is prevalent to the extent that even in fics not about that at all that feature Megavolt as a villain, it's not uncommon to see his memory problems played up a lot more, his emotions all over the place and him obviously struggling with an inevitable heel face turn of some kind.
* ''WesternAnimation/HeyArnold'':
** Fic-writers tend to be fond of the "character leaves town for years, only to return much later to the neighborhood and reintroduce their newly mature selves to their old friends". Despite Arnold actually having a reason for doing this (searching for his parents), this kind of thing usually stars Helga, who always comes back [[SheIsAllGrownUp more attractive]] and [[CharacterDevelopment more mature]], so as to sweep Arnold off his feet.
** Fanfics tackling the plot of ''[[WesternAnimation/HeyArnoldTheJungleMovie The Jungle Movie]]'', prior to the project being rescued from DevelopmentHell; all that was known about the story was that Arnold sets out to find his lost parents in Central America and that he'd get RelationshipUpgrade with Helga, with fanfic writers rolling with that loose outline for years until the canonical version was made.
** WordOfGod is Lila has a darker side, though exactly what this means was never specified. As such, fanfic writers who go with this either make her a troubled and traumatized StepfordSmiler or a BitchInSheepsClothing.
** Lila and Helga frequently enter an OddFriendship once the LoveTriangle is out of the way. Lila is usually thrilled that Arnold and Helga are together, though she's not above being a CovertPervert who "oh so innocently" suggests [[OneTrueThreesome a threesome]], to Arnold's embarrassment and Helga's irritation; it varies how serious she is, but she's ''usually'' joking.
* ''WesternAnimation/KickButtowski'' shipping fics tend to start with [[BelligerentSexualTension Kick and Kendall]] agreeing to spend a whole day (or even a whole week) together because of a bet or a dare. Naturally, after some initial bickering, they realize they've fallen in love with each other.
* ''WesternAnimation/YoungJustice'':
** Fics enjoy getting a lot of drama over Robin taking his sunglasses/mask off to whoever he's being shipped with (not that the WesternAnimation/TeenTitans fandom is short on that).
** {{Hurt Comfort Fic}}s involving Wally and his AbusiveParents, despite WordOfGod saying they're GoodParents in this continuity.
** The Team - especially Wally and Dick - also get de-aged a lot. Usually it's either Klarion's or Zatanna's fault.
** Pre-''Invasion'' fics often feature Dick being kidnapped and the Team is sent to rescue Dick Grayson only to discover he's Robin.
** Conner undergoing CloneDegeneration is a typical Hurt/Comfort Fic plot (it ''did'' happened to him on the comics, mind).
** Because Season One ended with Superman still estranged from Superboy and Season Two showcases the former long since having come to accept the latter as a brother (after a five-year TimeSkip [[OffscreenMomentOfAwesome and the specific moment when the acceptance happens never being shown on the show nor on the off-shoot media]]), many fics have taken it onto themselves to show this (probably after a short bout of putting Superman on the "BreakTheHaughty" train as punishment for his Season One {{Superdickery}}).
** Fics about Artemis and/or Dick dealing with Wally's death after the finale are commonplace.
** FixFic undoing Wally's death are popular.
** There are several Wally/Artemis fanfics that take place during the Vietnam War era. This plot is so common because it explores Artemis' Vietnamese heritage in a historical setting.

This plot is so Ice King, and later other characters. (Though WordOfGod says that Fionna and Cake may nonetheless exist in an AlternateUniverse.) Sometimes the characters meet via magical means, but just as often they [[RememberTheNewGuy act as if their doubles have been around this whole time]], and it's especially common because it explores Artemis' Vietnamese heritage for them to be each other's siblings (Fionna is Finn's twin sister, Gumball is Bubblegum's older brother, etc.). It probably helps that there is [[http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111224020155/adventuretimewithfinnandjake/images/b/b3/Forthewiki.jpg official artwork]] [[http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130802153906/adventuretimewithfinnandjake/images/6/64/Tumblr_m3q5tgaE6v1qzlgkno1_1280.jpg of them interacting]]. Ice King would even write this ''very type of fic'' in an issue of the comics.
** Once that fandom realized that Marceline and Princess Bubblegum were old flames, the floodgates for high school and college [=AUs=] for the pairing burst wide open. Strangely enough, in conjunction with the above, these fics have the tendency to give Marceline
a historical setting.brother in the form of Marshall Lee while forgoing the other opposite sex versions of the characters.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{Arthur}}'' fanfic writers enjoy writing about the characters as teenagers in high school (or less so middle school). They often lean towards {{Dark Fic}}s, sometimes even {{Troll Fic}}s, and are usually full of shipping.
* Though there aren't many a lot of ''Franchise/CareBears'' fanfiction involves finding a new or lost member of the care bear family on earth who then moves up to join them and has to integrate into their society, often bringing emotional baggage that has to be sorted out or a new villain that has to be beaten.
* ''WesternAnimation/CaptainPlanetAndThePlaneteers'':
** One of the most common plot in fics involves Wheeler and Linka hooking up somehow.
** Linka struggling with her addiction to Bliss from the drug episode. Invariably, Wheeler is around to be her support.
* ''WesternAnimation/CarmenSandiego'': When it comes to writing [[IdiosyncraticShipNaming Red Crackle]], the most used plot is one where Gray regains his lost memories and teams up with Carmen to try and get back at V.I.L.E.
* ''WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleRescueRangers'':
** The series is (mostly) about [[MouseWorld rodents]] [[TheyFightCrime fighting crime]], solving cases, right? So, what to do with them? Give them cases to solve! And, of course, put the "no case too big" claim to the test by making these cases [[DarkFic more serious and dangerous]] than anything ever seen in the show. Like [[Fanfic/RhymeAndReason a mysterious rodent playing a brutal life-and-death game with Chip and putting the lives of his friends at stake]], [[Webcomic/OfMiceAndMayhem rescuing one of the Rangers out of an out-of-control]] ManchurianAgent-style GovernmentConspiracy or Gadget's LongLostSibling [[Fanfic/TheNowakverse returning with heavy armament to kill Gadget]].
** [[{{Shipping}} ship]] the Rangers, especially Gadget; bonus points for adding [[EnsembleDarkhorse Foxglove]] as the SixthRanger and Dale's LoveInterest and then shipping Gadget with Chip.
** An explanation to what exactly happened to Gadget's father. And her unmentioned mother, for that matter.
** Most villains are animals, as opposed to the show itself using mostly human villains.
** Not so much a plot as it is a trait, but Gadget being addicted to coffee.
** [[EnsembleDarkhorse Tammy]] is a nurse at least in fanfics not older than 2004.[[note]]That was when ''Webcomic/OfMiceAndMayhem'' came out.[[/note]]
** The Ranger the most likely to be seriously injured is Chip.
* ''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor'':
** Fics about the kids being decommissioned, usually with them ceasing to be friends afterwards (though Kuki and Wally almost always fall in love somehow [[spoiler:which is [[OfficialCouple canon]]]]), are incredibly common. There's a sub-genre of these where Kuki and Wally are angsty, lonely teens who are mysteriously drawn to each other despite not recognizing one another.
** The main characters' children time-traveling back from the future is also a fairly common one.
** ''A lot'' of shipping stories will have Numbuh 1 dump [[TheScrappy Lizzie]] before hooking up with Numbuh 5 or Numbuh 362.
** At the end of the series, Numbuh 1 [[spoiler: leaves Earth in order to join the Galactic Kids Next Door]]. This will either be ignored or have him [[spoiler: return from space]], generally as a teen.
* ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'':
** A great many fics involve the return of [[FutureMeScaresMe Dark Danny]]. This is largely due to [[EnsembleDarkhorse his immense popularity]], the fact that he only appeared in the series once, and that supposedly he ''was'' going to return if the series wasn't ScrewedByTheNetwork. What he ''does'' when he returns varies from story to story: sometimes he gets shipped, other times he gets "redeemed," but he usually goes on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge.
** As the ghosts are, well, ghosts, many fanfics deal with their lives as humans and their premature deaths. [[EnsembleDarkhorse Ember]] in particular has ''a lot'' of these, with many being some level of SongFic using lyrics from "Remember".
** There are many {{Hurt Comfort Fic}}s and {{Dark Fic}}s that explore how being a half-ghost takes a mental toll on Danny. This can be anything from depression, to SelfHarm, or [[DrivenToSuicide suicidal tendencies]].
** It's pretty common to see fics detailing what happened in the first month after Danny got his powers, since the show doesn't.
** Similarly, there are multiple fics that explore the circumstances and aftermath of the original accident, since the show doesn't show much of it in its original context.
* ''WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddy'':
** "[[Webcomic/AUReverse Reverse Kevedd]]" was started by a fan-artist in 2011. It's a ship-based role reversal on Kevin and Edd. Kevin is a DorkInASweater while Edd is a tough delinquent.
** {{Continuation}} works where the characters are teenagers or adults.

* ''WesternAnimation/KimPossible'':
** Pretty much every [[EvilDuo Drakken/Shego]] writer has done a piece dealing with the fallout from "[[Recap/KimPossibleS3E2EmotionSickness Emotion Sickness]]" (in which [[EmotionBomb emotion-setting]] "[[AppliedPhlebotinum Moodulators"]] become attached to Kim and Shego, and for most of the episode they're crazy with love for Ron and Drakken, respectively). So have a lot of Kim/Ron fans, of course, but to a lesser extent because they have considerably more canon to work with.
** A common plotline for writers interested in Kim and Shego ([[SlashFic as a couple]] or otherwise) is to deal with the fallout from the climax of ''[[WesternAnimation/KimPossibleMovieSoTheDrama So The Drama]]'', where Kim kicks Shego into a signal tower which zaps her and collapses on top of her. Shego [[MadeOfIron survives just fine]] in canon, but either or both of them might believe that Kim [[DisneyVillainDeath intended to kill her]], at least in that moment of anger. {{Alternate Universe Fic}}s may have her critically injured or killed, sending Kim into a HeroicBSOD from [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone the realization]] that may involve her quitting her job, with even more complications possible if Shego is ''[[NeverFoundTheBody apparently]]'' [[NoOneCouldSurviveThat killed]] only to [[ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated turn up alive]] several years later.
** Fics that deal with Kim's career as an adult are common. What maturing does to her changes from author to author, though it's usually DarkerAndEdgier than her teen jobs.
** Several fan fics (such as the FanFic/BloodBondBloodOmenSeries and FanFic/AtTheCenterfoldOfTheStorm) attempting to explain the [[HarmlessVillain nature of the show's villains]], usually as being due to a case of EvenEvilHasStandards, mainly in the form of a). not wanting to do anything that would label them as terrorists (and thus bring unwanted amounts of attention from law enforcement agencies [[LetsGetDangerous less tolerant than GJ]]) and b). a hesitancy to harm someone who's technically a minor.
** Fics where Kim ends up [[TeenPregnancy pregnant]] during the series or just after it are common. Most of the Kim/Shego ones are inspired by ''Fanfic/ASmallPossibility''.
** Stories concerning Shego's backstory or her family in general.
* Two common plotlines in ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfTheGalaxyRangers'' fandom are "Eliza's rescue" (at least 4 versions are floating around), and ones where the other three find out about the ''full'' extent of the dirty politics and hellish conditions at Wolf Den -- usually in the form of some threat to Shane. Queue the Series 5 team making the guilty parties ''wish'' they were dealing with Supertroopers.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Jem}}'':
** Putting one or more of the bands on VH-1's ''Behind the Music'', a melodramatic "documentary" series depicting the backstage drama for various bands. These are played anywhere from totally straight to DeconstructiveParody.
** A common plot is wondering what will happen to the bands in a few years. The series takes place in the late 80s, so fans use retrospective to their advantage. Jem and the Holograms almost always breaks up in the early 90s due to the changing music climate, and occasionally personal issues. {{Fanon}} is torn on whether The Misfits crash and burn too or if they just keep doing their thing, but it's generally considered ''eventually'' Stormer will be a solo artist.
** There are unsurprisingly plenty of fics dealing with Rio or Riot learning Jem is really Jerrica.
** Plenty of fanfics go into the backstories of The Misfits, whether it's their difficult childhoods or how the band met.
** Several fics about Stormer becoming a Hologram exist, despite WordOfGod saying Stormer is loyal to The Misfits.
** Post-"Bands Break Up" fics dealing with Kimber's and Stormer's relationship, whether it be romantic or platonic, aren't rare.
** Pizzazz being reunited with her MissingMom. This might also include her meeting a half-brother she didn't know about (or at least has never seen before).
** The media learns that Jem and Jerrica are the same person and it creates a huge scandal. Common plots how this happens include either Synergy having a technical glitch mid-concert or someone leaking the info to the press.
** SpinOffspring fanfics where the characters children [[GenerationXerox also start a band]].
* ''WesternAnimation/MegaMan'':
** Fans of the ''Mega Man'' cartoon show often have Proto Man leave Wily, usually by him creating Bass as a replacement. And then Bass isn't seen from again.
** Other common fic plots involve Wily treating Protoman terribly.
* ''WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar'':
** Fanfics often includes [[FixFic some method of 'fixing']] Marlene's lapsing into a feral state whenever she leaves the zoo. This tends to go hand-in-hand with [[LockedOutOfTheLoop her finally learning that the penguins']] [[CassandraTruth adventures are real]] and joining the team, since her ability to participate in adventures would be severely limited otherwise.
** Humanized fics are common, and [[TheSmartGuy Kowalski]] is almost always responsible.
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLifeAsATeenageRobot'' has a whole genre of stories about Jenny becoming human somehow, usually to facilitate a relationship with Brad. (Fans never seem to do this if they pair her with [[DoggedNiceGuy Sheldon]], [[{{Robosexual}} for some reason]].)

* ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'':
* ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'':
** The fandom is overflowing with {{crossover}}s in which the usual cast interacts with their [[GenderFlip gender-flipped]] counterparts from the "[[AndNowForSomethingCompletelyDifferent Fionna and Cake]]" episodes, despite those stories explicitly taking place in [[FictionalDocument in-universe]] RealPersonFic written by the Ice King, and later other characters. (Though WordOfGod says that Fionna and Cake may nonetheless exist in an AlternateUniverse.) Sometimes the characters meet via magical means, but just as often they [[RememberTheNewGuy act as if their doubles have been around this whole time]], and it's especially common for them to be each other's siblings (Fionna is Finn's twin sister, Gumball is Bubblegum's older brother, etc.).
Strangely enough, in conjunction with the above, these fics have the tendency to give Marceline a brother in the form of Marshall Lee while forgoing the other opposite sex versions of the characters.
* Though there aren't many a lot of ''Franchise/CareBears'' fanfiction involves finding a new or lost member of the care bear family on earth who then moves up to join them and has to integrate into their society, often bringing emotional baggage that has to be sorted out or a new villain that has to be beaten.

* ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'':
** Fans have Prowl/Jazz romance. They interacted maybe twice in canon, but damn it, [[FanPreferredCouple they look cute together!]]
** The "human becomes a Transformer through mind transfer into a Cybertronian body" plot, thanks to the ''WesternAnimation/TransformersGenerationOne'' episode "Autobot Spike." While common, the fandom also looks upon poorly as a plot choice.
** For ''WesternAnimation/BeastWars'', the idea that Maximals and Predacons have "branches" around the world fighting on other continents is also a popular one. The idea is that both ships scattered emergency escape pods across the planet during their crash landing, and is used to place teams in places like Australia or North America, the better to explain the existence of beast modes based on the local wildlife, such as kangaroos or timber wolves.
** For ''WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated'', there are quite a few fics revolving around the events on Archa Seven, where it's Optimus who ends up being left behind instead of [[spoiler:Elita One]] and have him being mutated into [[WesternAnimation/BeastWars Tarantulas]]. Which would lead to [[spoiler:Elita]] becoming the leader of Team Prime, in Optimus's place.
* ''WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleRescueRangers'':
* ''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor'':
* There are many ''WesternAnimation/GreenLanternTheAnimatedSeries'' fanfics where Aya [[spoiler:is revived by Razer somehow]]. Many of them involve her turning organic, which in itself is a common fic idea.
* ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'':
** The idea of [[HumanityEnsues Humanity Ensuing]] on the gems garnered {{Fanon}} popularity early on. More often or not, these Human A.U.s are specifically a [[CollegeIsHighSchoolPart2 College]] or HighSchoolAU doubling as host for HighSchoolSweethearts. Such fanworks have been [[MemeAcknowledgement acknowledged]] in promotional art on Twitter by Crewniverse members Hilary Florido, Lauren Zuke, and even [[Creator/RebeccaSugar the head girl herself]].
** Lapis Lazuli joins the Crystal Gems. Peridot and Jasper [[HeelFaceTurn may or may not follow]]. Funnily enough, [[spoiler: the first of these characters to join ended up being ''[[HeelFaceTurn Peridot]]'' at the end of season two, after mouthing off to her superior]]. In canon, Lapis is adamant about not joining the group in any capacity, [[spoiler:until the end of the fifth season, where she helps fight the Diamonds.]]
** The "FanFic/{{Momswap|AU}}" AU, in which Jasper, Lapis, and Peridot are the Crystal Gems and raise Steven (or Connie). Sometimes the canonical Crystal Gems take the place of the original Homeworld Gems, although this doesn't always happen. Rose Quartz and Yellow Diamond also sometimes swap roles, with Rose becoming Pink Diamond. [[spoiler:Which is HilariousInHindsight given the reveal that Rose really ''was'' Pink Diamond.]]
** The Permafusion AU, in which Ruby and Sapphire are defused and another of the team's Fusions (usually Opal) becomes the team's Permafusion.
** There are a good amount of fics that depict life just before Steven's birth, during his birth, and directly afterwards.
** Gems cannot reproduce biologically, but that hasn't stopped fans from creating fanworks where Gems can lay eggs that result in baby Gems called "Gemlings".
** "Bad Pearl" is very popular in fanart. She's an AlternateUniverse version of Pearl where she's a [[SmokingIsCool smoker]] wearing a [[GreaserDelinquents leather jacket and jeans]]. She's pretty much the anti-Pearl-- while Pearl is sweet, neurotic, and motherly, Bad Pearl is an overall bad influence, though she [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold still has a good heart]]. "Bad Pearl" did eventually appear in one episode (she was created by a storyboard artist for the show so it wasn't an AscendedMeme), but she was just normal Pearl wearing a jacket and jeans.
** Right after the introduction of Blue Pearl and Yellow Pearl, many fanworks began discussing the way Homeworld treats Pearls. Some are even [=AUs=] where Blue Pearl joined the Crystal Gems, or where the Pearls on Homeworld start a new rebellion.
** {{Hurt Comfort Fic}}s where Lapis either recovers from an abusive relationship with Jasper or Jasper recovers from an abusive relationship with Lapis. The one being the "comforter" is usually Peridot. In both cases, this type of fic is common in both canon compliant works and humanized works.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{Arthur}}'' fanfic writers enjoy writing about the characters as teenagers in high school (or less so middle school). They often lean towards {{Dark Fic}}s, sometimes even {{Troll Fic}}s, and are usually full of shipping.

* ''WesternAnimation/HeyArnold'':
** Fanfics tackling the plot of ''[[WesternAnimation/HeyArnoldTheJungleMovie The Jungle Movie]]'', prior to the project being rescued from DevelopmentHell; all that was known about the story was that Arnold sets out to find his lost parents in Central America and that he'd get RelationshipUpgrade with Helga, with
fanfic writers enjoy writing rolling with that loose outline for years until the canonical version was made.

* Fan works based on ''WesternAnimation/TheJetsons'' tend to have dark reasons for why the titular family lives in the sky. Usually, it's to do with either air pollution, flooding, or overpopulation, with some people speculating that it actually takes place at the same time
as teenagers in high school (or less so middle school). They ''WesternAnimation/TheFlintstones'', who live on the surface, or that the animals have gone extinct (which ignores the fact that Astro the dog and their unnamed cat exist). Rosie the robot is often lean towards {{Dark Fic}}s, sometimes turned into either a SexRobot or a slave.
* ''WesternAnimation/KickButtowski'' shipping fics tend to start with [[BelligerentSexualTension Kick and Kendall]] agreeing to spend a whole day (or
even {{Troll Fic}}s, a whole week) together because of a bet or a dare. Naturally, after some initial bickering, they realize they've fallen in love with each other.
* ''WesternAnimation/KimPossible'':
** Pretty much every [[EvilDuo Drakken/Shego]] writer has done a piece dealing with the fallout from "[[Recap/KimPossibleS3E2EmotionSickness Emotion Sickness]]" (in which [[EmotionBomb emotion-setting]] "[[AppliedPhlebotinum Moodulators"]] become attached to Kim
and Shego, and for most of the episode they're crazy with love for Ron and Drakken, respectively).
** Fics that deal with Kim's career as an adult

The show itself has Marco completely unchanged personality or behavior-wise from the experience, so these fics try to address some of the StrangerInAFamiliarLand issues that he should face from seeing his family and friends for the first time in almost two decades, and from having to re-adjust to life as though he's still the 15-year-old everyone sees him as. * A common ''WesternAnimation/SheZow'' fanfic plot has Boxter somehow learn [=SheZow's=] true identity as his son. Much [[HilarityEnsues Hilarity]]/[[PlayedForDrama Drama]] Ensues.
* ''WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil'':
** Members in the fandom can't swing a wand on Tumblr without hitting at least one future heir to the throne of Mewni. Most of these fanchildren are girls (since the Butterfly family is a matriarchal one), and the majority have [[OfficialCouple (surprise, surprise)]] Marco as their father, though having Tom in that role isn't rare. It got to the point that the popular fan artist Moringmark (creator of the ''Webcomic/ShipWarAU'' comic) created [[http://moringmark.tumblr.com/tagged/svtfoe-metaverse the SVTFOE Metaverse]] as a way for all these fanchildren to hang out.
** Due to a popular theory, several fan-works exist where Marco is a {{trans|gender}} girl. Even this theory getting {{Jossed}} didn't stop the popularity of these works.
** Fanfics with a RealityEnsues approach to the aftermath of "Running With Scissors", in which Marco spent sixteen years having countless adventures [[YearInsideHourOutside in another dimension]] while undergoing Hekapoo's trial. You also have a good chance of these fics being Marco/Hekapoo if they're romance-centric, as many fanfic writers wish avoid the usual pairings of Star/Marco and Marco/Jackie Lynn Thomas due to Marco being in his 30s.
* ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'':
* A popular ''WesternAnimation/TangledTheSeries'' AU is the Moondrop AU, in which resident EnsembleDarkHorse Varian is given [[{{Lunacy}} destruction-based moon powers]] to serve as a {{foil}} to Rapunzel and her [[PowerOfTheSun sun-based healing powers]]. How it goes from there depends on the writer; some choose to have Mother Gothel kidnap him a few years after she kidnaps Rapunzel (leading to her becoming a CoolBigSis to him), while others have him use his newfound powers to [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge exact revenge]] on her. These diminished in popularity a bit when the canon ended up giving these powers to [[spoiler:Cassandra]].
* ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'':
* ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'':
* ''WesternAnimation/VoltronLegendaryDefender'':
** Every character gets their share of species swap fic, but stories where Lance is a long-lost Altean prince who falls for and may be engaged to Keith, who also turns out to be a long-lost Galran prince even before the series revealed that Keith was part Galra, are exceptionally commonplace. Less popular but still findable are Altean princess!Pidge (which typically has Altean prince!Matt and Sam; Colleen is typically Altean as well) and part Altean!Lance or Pidge (which can both vary from "one of their ancestors was a displaced Altean", "they're [[HalfHumanHybrid half human/half Altean]]" (with 50/50 odds about which parent is which species) and "they're half Altean/half [insert species]" (with again 50/50 odds about which parent is what though Galra is rarely, if ever, an option)).
*** Conversely, "all human" AUs are ''insanely'' popular; they also tend to have a genre shift.
** A stock plot in Voltron fanfiction is for Lance to be the victim of [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer bullying and mistreatment]] from one or more of the other paladins, and for him to angst over it until he impresses them into having a HeelRealization, winning their respect from then on. It's so widespread that the term "[[FanNickname Langst]]" was coined to describe such fics.
** Numerous stories where Keith being part Galra leads to him being abused, threatened or hurt by people who suffer from blind FantasticRacism can be found, with stories set later in the series featuring humans doing this. Depending on when they're set, these stories can feature Allura snapping out of her anger about Keith's heritage with a MyGodWhatHaveIDone reaction, especially if her behavior encouraged the assailants. Regardless of when it's set, the entire team is ''furious'' and in some cases, this type of behavior nearly destroys peace talks and treaty agreements, only not doing so because Keith is willing to TurnTheOtherCheek.
** One of the Paladins ends up captured by slavers. Keith, as a Member of the Blades of Mamora, is a popular option but anyone who isn't Allura is fair game.

* ''WesternAnimation/CarmenSandiego'': When it comes ''WesternAnimation/YoungJustice'':
** Fics enjoy getting a lot of drama over Robin taking his sunglasses/mask off
to writing [[IdiosyncraticShipNaming Red Crackle]], whoever he's being shipped with (not that the most used WesternAnimation/TeenTitans fandom is short on that).
This
plot is one where Gray regains his lost memories and teams up with Carmen to try and get back at V.I.L.E. so common because it explores Artemis' Vietnamese heritage in a historical setting.

** Sweetie and Mayor Humdinger team up to seek revenge on the Patrol. This usually falls apart in the end but can go nightmarishly well for at least part of the story. This can also be done with Sweetie teaming up with Harold, which goes about the same way.
** Mayor Humdinger ''finally'' [[LaserGuidedKarma gets proper comeuppance for everything he's done]]. This can be the ending of a story or set up for an even worse antagonist. Sweetie or Harold can be used in a similar fashion.
** Mayor Humdinger, Sweetie or Harold can get a HeelFaceTurn though this is usually only after a good portion of the story giving them CharacterDevelopment and the heroes take most of the story to believe that they're being genuine.
