* HellholePrison: The prison below the Palace of Shadow is referenced a lot over the course of ''Redux'', but when Hyde infiltrates the place late in the fic, a good look at the inside of it is finally revealed, showing that it ''is'' a horrid place. Inmates are BoundAndGagged, ''and'' consigned to small cages, a few are trapped in [[CrystalPrison Crystal Prisons]], and in one area (where Hyde meets and rescues Rave) there's a large, fiery pit of flame that is serious NightmareFuel, clearly used for torture. While the demonic jailers (at least the ones on the top three levels) are [[TheGuardsMustBeCrazy incompetent at best]], it's obvious that they are only there to ''punish'' and abuse the inmates, and several other features of the prison itself prevent their escape.

A lot that happens after Merlow's resistance movement gains ground seems to suggest that they're a bunch of lazy, incompetent cowards who took the job simply to avoid having to avoid anything that resembled actual work, and this is proven when they barricade themselves in the parliamentary building after the resistance gains a substantial advantage. In modern times, the would-be traitor Lan'tao tried to make money [[IShouldWriteABookAboutThis by writing a novel about the conflict, but ironically, an agent told him it was a cliché. He tried to make it unique by combining the events of the past conflict with modern ones, adding many modern personalities to Arcadia to the story (making it an in-universe example of a PragmaticAdaptation) but it still wouldn't sell. Eventually, someone suggested taking it to Nintendo. They liked the basic storyline, but wanted to change it, making it a LighterAndSofter version for a younger audience with their [[SeriesMascot company mascot]] as the star. Being an unknown author, Lan'tao really couldn't argue. Ironically, it was a hit. (The Queen has mixed feelings about it; as she says, she found it silly, but it did keep the ruse for the tournament alive for awhile.)]]

(Each of them was featured in one chapter which detailed the encounter that was most important to the Queen's plan concerning them, but apparently, there were some other problems for them getting there). Raven said she'd "nearly been frozen, burned, electrocuted, and chased by things I can’t even describe" while Aesop mentions "Zombies, giant rats, [and] flower nymphs".
