To celebrate Chapter 6 being released, here's some more tropes!

* BossSubtitles: These are used for major boss battles throughout the story, in a similar vein to VideoGame/KirbyStarAllies. For example, Whispy Woods from VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand2 is given the title "Grass Land's Arboreal Protector, Whispy Woods!".

* DividedForPublication: Based on the length, some chapters have been split into two parts on Website/DeviantArt, such as Chapter 5.

* ADogNamedDog: A mysterious blob-like creature is given the name... [[spoiler:[[ShapedLikeItself Gooey]]]].
* TheDoorSlamsYou: Kirby slams his house door on Tokkori at the end of Chapter 2 when running away from the mysterious creature in Whispy Wood's Forest.

* Foreshadowing: Once the mob of villagers realize how obsessed with revenge they've become, they are immediately apologetic, with Benjamin commenting that "it was like some dark haze took over or something." [[spoiler:Later in the same chapter, Dark Matter Swordsman possesses King Dedede in a very similar manner.]]

* KnightOfCerebus: The appearance of [[spoiler:Dark Matter Swordsman]] in Chapter 5 definitely darkens the atmosphere, especially since his first order of business is [[spoiler:possessing King Dedede]].

to:

* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: Whispy Woods and his relatives, lampshaded by Rick as being similar to "[[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} the Nurse Joy situation]]". This is both [[JustifiedTrope justified]] and PlayedForLaughs in order to differentiate the anime version of Whispy Woods from the game versions.
* KnightOfCerebus: The appearance of [[spoiler:Dark Matter Swordsman]] in Chapter 5 definitely darkens the atmosphere, especially since his first order orders of business is are [[spoiler:possessing King Dedede]].Dedede and teleporting Kirby away from his friends]].

* TheLegendOfChekhov: In Chapter 2, Fumu reads from her history book about the Rainbow Islands, including a legend about the existence of stones called Rainbow Drops and a powerful weapon called the Rainbow Sword. [[spoiler:Needless to say, this legend is true.]]

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Fumu has this reaction after her RousingSpeech to the villagers [[GoneHorriblyRight backfires]].

to:

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Fumu has this reaction after her RousingSpeech to the villagers [[GoneHorriblyRight backfires]]. The villagers themselves have this reaction later once they realize how far they've gone off the deep end.

* ParentalAbandonment: Meta Knight theorizes that [[spoiler:Gooey]] may have been dumped on Pop Star to fend for himself.

* TheDoorSlamsYou: Kirby slams his house door on Tokkori at the end of Chapter 2 when running away from the mysterious creature in Whispy Wood's Forest.

to:

* TheDoorSlamsYou: Kirby slams his house door on Tokkori at the end of TorchesAndPitchforks: The entire village becomes an angry mob in Chapter 2 when running away from 4. They get better, though.
* TwoLinesNoWaiting: From Chapter 6 onwards. While Kirby and
the mysterious creature in Whispy Wood's Forest.animal friends are traveling through the Rainbow Islands, everyone else is rebuilding Cappy Village and trying to figure out what happened to Kirby and King Dedede.

It's been a while, so here are a ton of tropes from the fourth chapter.

Added DiffLines:

* CharacterDevelopment: Kirby gets the most of it since he's the [[JustForPun star]] of the show, but practically any main character, such as Fumu or King Dedede, will get some character development at some point in the story.

Added DiffLines:

* BigShutUp: Bun uses this to get the villagers' attention in Chapter 4.
* ChekhovsSkill: In the first chapter, Kirby shows that he knows how to play tag by tackling Bun to the ground. [[spoiler:This comes in handy at the end of Chapter 4, when Kirby is able to capture the mysterious creature in Whispy Wood's forest by tackling it in a similar way, even shouting "Tag!" while doing it.]]

Added DiffLines:

* GoneHorriblyRight: Fumu attempts to give a mob of villagers a RousingSpeech to unite them in protecting themselves against the mysterious creature in Whispy Wood's Forest. It works... then the now-united mob heads off to kill the creature.

Added DiffLines:

* MoodWhiplash: Chapter 4 has this in ''spades''.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Fumu has this reaction after her RousingSpeech to the villagers [[GoneHorriblyRight backfires]].

Added DiffLines:

* ShamingTheMob: When a mob of villagers are blaming each other for the chaos that took place the previous night, Bun gets them to realize what they're doing.
-->'''Bun:''' Look at yourselves! Look at what you've become! Haven't we all gone through much worse than this? ...Well, okay, I admit this is pretty much as bad as it gets when accounting for property damage, but nobody got hurt! Are all of you so upset over losing some... stuff, that you're willing to change that?

Added DiffLines:

* MadeOfIndestructium: Anything coated with an alloy of Gordo spikes falls into this trope, including Kirby's trash can. According to Gus, only something like a Demon Beast could do significant damage to an item with this alloy.

* AerithAndBob: Invoked. Most characters that were [[CanonForeigner first introduced in the anime]] are referred to by their romanized Japanese names (i.e. Fumu, Bun, Escargon), while characters that are present in the games have their regular English names.

* DayInTheLife: Most of the first chapter is this for Kirby.

to:

* ClearTheirName: After Kirby is accused of eating all of Benjamin's crops, Fumu and Bun do some investigating to prove Kirby's innocence. Downplayed in that only Benjamin seems to think that Kirby is guilty.
* CoveredInMud: This happens to Kirby when he is running away from the mysterious creature in Whispy Wood's Forest, along with him [[AgonyOfTheFeet twisting his ankle]].
* DayInTheLife: Most of the first chapter is this for Kirby.Kirby and his friends.

* NamedByTheAdaptation: Iroo's parents are given the names Benjamin and Lilah.
%%The "Named by the Adaptation" trope will be moved to General as more examples arise.

* TheDoorSlamsYou: Kirby slams his house door on Tokkori at the end of Chapter 2 when running away from the mysterious creature in Whispy Wood's forest.

* EasingIntoTheAdventure: The story begins with Kirby and friends enjoying life after Nightmare's defeat, and several mysteries unfold first before the elements of VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand2 properly appear in the story.

Added DiffLines:

* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Bun does this when Kirby charges and tackles him to the ground during a game of tag.

Well, the day has come! The rewrite of After Story has arrived, and so this TV Tropes page has been almost completely reset! Now, we just need to get more tropes in here from the first chapter...

In September 2016, Leer Justice announced that she would rewrite the entire story from scratch to improve its readability. For more details, check out ([[http://leerjustice.deviantart.com/journal/After-Story-Update-Information-9-6-2016-632861707]]) and ([[http://leerjustice.deviantart.com/journal/Another-Announcement-635529524]]). The rewrite will be released on April 27th, 2017.

Once the first chapter of the rewrite is released, this page will be rewritten and updated as well:

* [[CaptainObvious New tropes will be added as the new chapters are released.]]
* The tropes will be organized in folders corresponding to different story arcs, and tropes that apply to the story in general will have their own folder.
* All of the tropes that applied to the original version will be transferred to an online document. From there, if a trope from the original version reappears in the story in some way, it can be added to the page; if the trope is made obsolete, then it will be deleted.
%%This way, if newcomers want to edit this page, they won't be subjected to a ton of spoilers in editing mode or anything like that.

%%* AudioAdaptation: A voice-acted reading of the rewrite is in the works.
%%* CharacterDevelopment: This is a large focus of the story. While Kirby seems to get the most of it, other characters have a fair amount of it as well, such as King Dedede or Fumu.
%%* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: One of the goals of After Story is to avert this trope for major characters that had this happen to them in the games.
%%* OriginalFlavour: This is one of the main goals of this fanfiction, especially in the case of the rewrite. Both the canon of the anime and the games are taken into consideration.
%%* PatchworkFic: The After Story sets the events from the Kirby games inside the anime's continuity, specifically after the anime's events, so plenty of anime and game elements are mixed together.
%%* PreviouslyOn: The story opens with a quick recap of the anime.

do.

* AlmightyJanitor: Chris the Janitor, an orange Waddle Dee with headphones who works as a janitor in the castle. Not only does he really enjoy his job, but he also seems to have connections throughout the castle and Cappy Town. [[spoiler:He also used to be a thief before King Dedede caught him in the act.]]
* AmazonBrigade: Sector S, composed of four female puffballs named Gisela, Shenandoah, Candeloro, and Letty.
* AmazonChaser: [[spoiler:Nonsurat likes Gisela.]] Even Falspar is shocked.
* AndThatWouldBeWrong: Gooey's general reaction to himself [[TakingAdvantageofGenerosity taking advantage of Kirby's generosity]] in the Dreamland 2 arc.
* ArmlessBiped: Deconstructed with Marx, who in this story doesn't even have InvisibleAnatomy. Many of his scenes have shown him having significant difficulty living day-to-day with that condition, and being a victim of bullying for it.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Kirby delivers one to Meta Knight after [[spoiler:the older Star Warrior suggests to Kirby to forget Marx after his death to better cope with the loss]]. It's enough to make Meta Knight have a HeroicBSOD.
-->'''Kirby:''' [[spoiler:Did you just forget ''Jecra'' when he died?!]]
* AsleepForDays: Parodied in Chapter 33:
-->'''Sword:''' How long have I been unconscious?
-->'''Chris:''' About a week.
-->'''Sword:''' A week!
-->'''Chris:''' Hahaha! I'm just joking with you! It's only been a few hours.
* AwesomeMomentOfCrowning: Though not as lofty as actually attaining kingship, King Dedede bestows the blue bandana to Waddle Dee after the destruction of Dark Star, promoting him to his new assistant and giving him the title of Bandana Dee.
* BadDreams: Meta Knight starts to have them in the Meta Knightmare Ultra arc, and it takes a nasty toll on his wellbeing.
* BaldWomen: Shenandoah, though the reason for her baldness is currently unknown.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Discussed by Kirby and Marx in Chapter 32, and quoted word-for-word by Kirby in Chapter 38.
* BewareTheQuietOnes: It isn't easy to make Meta Knight viciously angry, but threaten Kirby enough, and you're in for a world of pain. [[spoiler:Yamikage, or rather his possessed self,]] learned this the hard way.
* BilingualBonus: An Italian line spoken by Meta Knight in Chapter 51: "È che la mia nave?!" ("Is that my ship?!")
** A couple of the chapter titles have this as well. Chapter 18's title, "Obscuro Corpus", is Latin for "dark body" and is likely an allusion to Dark Matter, while Chapter 38's title, "Buonanotte", is Italian for "Goodnight".
* BizarreSeasons: The planet Floria changes seasons at random, even more so than in the game.
* BlackSheep: Gooey was considered this by his family. [[spoiler: Considering his family consists of Dark Matter itself, one can hardly blame him for leaving.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Poor Yamikage.]]
* BreakingTheFourthWall: "It's like the [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Nurse Joy]] [[InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals situation]]."
** Chris the Janitor is rather fond of doing this.
* BrokenBird: [[spoiler: Gisela]] seems to display signs of being one.
* ByTheHair: Falspar has this happen to him a number of times, usually with Dragato doing the pulling.
* TheCameo: Leer Justice goes out of her way to describe the cameos of certain Nintendo characters (even though said characters aren't referenced by name) as they appeared in certain Kirby games. Though [[Franchise/{{Metroid}} Samus Aran]] from the Dreamland 3 arc is the only one of those characters so far that Kirby has had any direct interaction with, if briefly.
* CharacterDevelopment: While Kirby seems to get the most of it, some characters tend to a fair amount of it as well, such as King Dedede, or Gooey.
* ChekhovsGift: In the Kirby 64 arc, Fumu gives Kirby a cell phone before he leaves Pop Star so they can talk to each other. [[spoiler:After Dark Star has been created, Kirby uses the phone to call Fumu for the Warp Star so they can travel there.]]
* ChekhovsGun: After the Dreamland 2 arc, Meta Knight starts rebuilding the Halberd along with Blade Knight, Sword Knight, and Sailor Dee, who appears later in the story. After Story shows scenes of the repairs being made, though [[ChekhovsGag most were played for humor]], oddly enough. [[spoiler: ...And then Meta Knight started using it to try to invade Dreamland.]]
* CirclingMonologue: [[spoiler:Zero]] circles around Kirby before their battle while talking about [[HopeCrusher how useless positive emotions are.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Gooey certainly is one in this story.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Falspar is quite prone to this.
* CoolMask: Practically everyone in the GSA has one of these, though Gisela's [[SkullForAHead skull mask]] deserves special mention.
* CrazyPrepared: When King Dedede steals all the food in Dream Land, Kirby quickly goes and explains the situation to Marx, since Marx had ordered in some cupcakes for an upcoming picnic. However, Marx is completely unconcerned:
-->'''Marx:''' Hee hee! I figured something like this would happen, so I bought a refrigerated safe for them with my order!
** Of course, this is immediately subverted when Marx unlocks the safe and discovers that the cupcakes are missing anyway.
* CueTheRain: After Meta Knight, Garlude and Jecra are attacked by a Demon Beast on Floria, this exchange happens:
-->'''Garlude:''' Our camp is a mess, though. We have nothing to eat, nowhere to sleep, and there's a dangerous creature nearby that's already angered. Our first mission is turning more eventful than I thought.
-->'''Jecra:''' Well, look at it this way, Garlude. [[TemptingFate At least it's not raini-]]
-->''[thunder clap]''
-->'''Garlude:''' Excuse me, what were you going to say?
-->'''Jecra:''' Nothing! Absolutely nothing!
* CrystalPrison: It is implied that [[spoiler:there is something or someone trapped inside the crystal in the Broken Village.]]
* CurseCutShort: Gisela will start saying one, only to be quickly cut off by anyone nearby.
* DarkerAndEdgier: As the story progresses, it takes darker turns and more mature themes.
* ADayInTheLimelight: The Meta Knightmare Ultra arc has Meta Knight as the main character, much like in the game's counterpart, though Kirby still makes appearances and even helps Meta Knight in one of his adventures.
* DeathGlare: A few of the characters get their own at some points in the story. Kirby gets a few notable ones himself, usually towards people he is very upset with.
* DelinquentHair: Falspar sports a red mohawk, though he's more of a [[ThePrankster prankster]] than a delinquent.
* DestinationDefenestration: King Dedede throws Falspar out one of the (open) castle windows and into the fountain [[spoiler:after putting an end to Falspar's "interrogation" of Chris.]]
* DisneyDeath: [[spoiler:Sailor Dee, complete with a DeadHatShot.]]
** And before that, during the Kirby 64 arc, [[spoiler:Queen Mary]].
* DivingSave: In the Kirby 64 arc, Waddle Dee pushes King Dedede out of the way of a falling boulder and has it fall on him instead, [[spoiler:resulting in [[AgonyOfTheFeet the boulder falling on his left foot]].]]
* DragonAscendant: [[spoiler:After Nightmare's defeat, his supporters formed a new organization called Nightwalker.]]
* DramaticUnmask: Kirby breaks Meta Knight's mask in a battle, and is stunned to find that Meta Knight [[spoiler:is a puffball just like him.]]
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Gisela, according to Candeloro.
* DyingRace: The puffball species has been reduced to six males in the present, thanks to Nightmare's puffball genocide during (and likely after) the war.
* EldritchAbomination: Whatever that... ''thing'' was that appeared in Meta Knight's nightmare when he was inside the underground cavern.
** The moldy chili plant from Chapter 33.
* EvilGloating: [[spoiler:Possessed!Yamikage again.]]
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler: Beta of the GSA was implied to have done this, although the reasons why he has are yet to be found out.]]
* FeedItABomb: [[spoiler:The Demon Beast that Sector H and Sector S fight on Aquarius]] is eventually dispatched with this method.
* FiveSecondForeshadowing: From Chapter 29:
-->'''Sailor Dee:''' Does anyone smell gas and smoke? [[TemptingFate Gee, I sure hope those two don't-]] *BOOOM!!!*
* ForbiddenZone: The Broken Village, which drives anyone to go mad from setting foot in it for too long. This is why Chris the Janitor advises Meta Knight to avoid investigating it. Marx seems oddly immune, and it is implied [[spoiler:the crystal he speaks to is the very reason why the Broken Village drives people mad in the first place.]]
* ForegoneConclusion: The fate of many of the GSA soldiers in Meta Knight's flashbacks, as the anime already established the GSA lost the war against Nightmare.
* GoodAngelBadAngel: [[spoiler:Marx]] has this happen in the form of [[HearingVoices internal voices]] just before [[spoiler:he makes the wish to control Pop Star]].
* {{Hammerspace}}: Meta Knight's cape. While it's usually used to carry supplies such as food and water, Meta Knight has pulled a towel and a mattress from his cape at different points in the story.

works.
-->'''Chris:''' About a week.
-->'''Sword:''' A week!
** A couple
ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: One of the chapter titles have goals of After Story is to avert this as well. Chapter 18's title, "Obscuro Corpus", is Latin trope for "dark body" and is likely an allusion to Dark Matter, while Chapter 38's title, "Buonanotte", is Italian for "Goodnight".
* BizarreSeasons: The planet Floria changes seasons at random, even more so than in the game.
* BlackSheep: Gooey was considered this by his family. [[spoiler: Considering his family consists of Dark Matter itself, one can hardly blame him for leaving.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Poor Yamikage.]]
* ByTheHair: Falspar has
major characters that had this happen to him a number of times, usually with Dragato doing the pulling.
* ChekhovsGun: After the Dreamland 2 arc, Meta Knight starts rebuilding the Halberd along with Blade Knight, Sword Knight, and Sailor Dee, who appears later
them in the story.
-->''[thunder clap]''
-->'''Garlude:''' Excuse me, what were you going to say?
-->'''Jecra:''' Nothing! Absolutely nothing!
* EvilGloating: [[spoiler:Possessed!Yamikage again.]]
* FiveSecondForeshadowing: From Chapter 29:

--->'''[[spoiler:Dark Matter Swordsman]]:''' [[spoiler:We do have free will, you know. All of us exist separate from each other. We don't share the same brain.]]
** Chapter 37:
--->'''Marx:''' [[spoiler:I want to control Pop Star!]]
** Chapter 53:
--->'''Mercy:''' My lord, Sir Arthur... [[spoiler:''there wasn't anything left to bury...'']]
** Chapter 56:
--->'''[[spoiler:Yamikage]]:''' [[spoiler:They're starting another war...]]
* WhoWritesThisCrap: Chris the Janitor's reaction to Falspar's previously mentioned InsaneTrollLogic.
-->'''Chris:''' ''Who wrote this junk?''
* WrongGenreSavvy: [[spoiler:During his fight with Zero in the Dreamland 3 arc, Kirby thought that since the Love-Love Stick is powered by positive emotions, he could use it [[CareBearStare to turn Zero from evil to good]]. Poor Kirby was horrified when he found out too late that the Love-Love Stick actually kills Zero ''very painfully''.]]
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: Marx in this fanfic is portrayed to actually be younger than even Kirby, yet Fumu has witnessed him reading material far exceeding that of his age group.
* XanatosSpeedChess: [[spoiler:Dark Matter]] plays some impressive speed chess in the Kirby 64 arc:
** Initially, the plan was to take over Ripple Star and obtain the Crystal of Joy, but [[spoiler:they]] didn't expect that the crystal would be shattered. [[BatmanGambit Knowing that Kirby would be helping Ribbon to find the shards]], [[spoiler:they used the extra time to construct Dark Star while possessing Queen Mary]].
** Moreover, once Kirby and his friends arrived on Ripple Star, [[spoiler:Dark Matter then launched a XanatosGambit by giving one of the shards to Miracle Matter. If Kirby lost to Miracle Matter, then Dark Matter would have the completed crystal, since Kirby found all of the other shards beforehand. If Kirby won, then Kirby and his friends would be forced to travel to Dark Star afterwards, effectively delivering the crystal to Dark Matter. Even if they hadn't recovered all the shards, Dark Matter would have found any that were missing. You have to admit, Dark Matter's become a lot smarter in their planning after the first two arcs.]]

Just doing some prep for the release of the rewrite. ;) I don't have all the tropes that apply to the story in general in this folder yet, because they could be considered spoilers for people who haven't read the beta version before. The "Other" folder will be renamed soon enough as well.

Added DiffLines:

%%[[foldercontrol]]
%%[[folder:General]]
%%* AdaptationExpansion: Each story arc has been moderately altered or expanded upon to either include certain characters that didn't appear in the game's version, or give explanation for why certain things happen the way they do.
%%* AllThereInTheManual: While you don't necessarily have to have seen the anime to enjoy this fanfiction, it is recommended by the author that you watch the anime first before reading, as there are plenty of characters and [[CallBack call backs]] to the anime that show up throughout the story.
%%* SpoiledByTheManual: If you have played any game in the main Kirby series, you will likely know at least some of the plot twists in that game's story arc in advance, especially if you have fully beaten said game.
%%* TitleTheAdaptation
%%* VirtualSoundtrack: This story includes optional BackgroundMusic in the form of Website/YouTube links. As you might expect, a large part of the music comes from the Franchise/{{Kirby}} series; however, there are musical cameos from other video game franchises, anime, cartoons, indie games, and much more.

From there, if a trope from the original version reappears in the story in some way, it can be added to the page; if the trope is made obsolete, then it will be deleted.% This way, if newcomers want to edit this page, they won't be subjected to a ton of spoilers in editing mode or anything like that.%
