''Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Destiny Altered'' is a currently-ongoing ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny'' FixFic, written by author Rosendrache and set in the Cosmic Era AlternateUniverse. It consists of two parts:
1. ''An Alternate Fate'', a single-chapter prologue that is a partial RetCon of certain events of ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED''.

2. ''Gundam Seed: Destiny Altered'', the story itself, which is ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: It essentially takes the basic plot line of the work it is based on and alters it, shifting the time line approximately a year and a half forward, and then going on to make a series of changes intended to address what the author perceived as flaws in ''Gundam Seed Destiny''.
Primarily focused on are the development of returning cast Athrun Zala and Cagalli Yula Athha, as well as new character and main protagonist Shinn Asuka. Certain story elements are also adapted from the ONA '' Gundam SEED CE 73 Stargazer''.

The story and its prologue are hosted on Fanfiction.net, links below:

* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7859043/1/Gundam-Seed-Destiny-Altered Gundam SEED: Destiny Altered]]
**The Fic also has its own [[http://gsdestinyaltered.wikia.com wiki page]].

As the work is still incomplete, this page will likely change.

!!Tropes used in ''An Alternate Fate'':

* HeroicSacrifice: Played straight with [[spoiler:Mwu La Flaga, as in the series. Averted with Natarle, see Retcon below]]

* KilledOffForReal: As in the series: [[spoiler:Muruta Azrael, Asagi Caldwell and Mayura Labatt, as well as Mwu La Flaga]]

* Retcon: Unlike in the series, [[spoiler:Natarle Badgiruel and Juri Wu Nien]] survive.

* VillainousBreakdown: Muruta Azrael, just as in the series.

!!Tropes used in ''Gundam Seed: Destiny Altered'':

* TheAce: Many, but Shinn Asuka and Athrun Zala are the most notable

* AcePilot: Most of the cast. Yzak manages to simultaneously be both this and TheCaptain.

* AffablyEvil: Gilbert Durendal

* AlasPoorVillain: Played with in the case [[spoiler:Stella Loussier - see GoOutWithASmile, below]]

* AllYourPowersCombined: The Destiny Gundam, which takes the canon design and turns it UpToEleven, with two [[{{BFS}} really big swords]], two [[{{BFG}} massively powerful beam cannons]], and insanely high speed and maneuverability, thus combining all of the Impulse's various [[{{MechaExpansionPack}} Silhouette Packs]] into a single mobile suit.

* AnAxeToGrind: The beam tomahawks used by [=ZAKUs=], as benefits their {{Expy}} nature to the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam original]] Zaku and their heat hawks. Also, the long-handled beam axe used by certain pilots.

* ArrangedMarriage: Yuna and Cagalli - discussed in the story, but does not ever actually take place.

* [[AscendedFanboy Ascended Fangirl]]: Lunamaria Hawke, when she finally gets the chance to pilot Mobile Suits alongside her idol Athrun.
Another, even more blatant example is Meer Campbell, a self-confessed Lacus fangirl who gets the chance who actually gets to [[{{BodyDouble}} be her idol]]

* AscendedExtra: Yzak is promoted from barely getting a couple of cameos in the series to being one of the story's central characters. Also, Sven Cal Bayan, Mudie Holcroft, and Lukas O'Donnell, who are pulled from assorted side-stories.

* AttackDrone: A number of machines have wirelessly-controlled unmanned remote weapons. Examples so far include the Chaos and the Destroy.

* Badass: A number of examples, the most notable of which are:
** Kira Yamato, who on two occasions enters a battlefield and near-singlehandedly forces both opposing forces to withdraw. Unlike in the series however, there are consequences and he is confronted about them at least once.
** Yzak, who apart from being an incredibly skilled pilot also shows himself to be a good tactician, especially against the ''Archangel'', when he [[spoiler: accurately anticipates what the next move the 'Archangel'' will make is, allowing him to cause devastating damage to the ship with a [[{{MacrossMissileMassacre}} missile barrage]].]]

*BadassNormal: Lukas O'Donnell, a Natural who is capable of holding his own against Coordinators
**Even more noteworthy, Sven Cal Bayan and Mudie Holcroft, who do so in mook suits.

*BadassLongcoat: Durendal's of course. Ezalia Joule wears a slightly less awesome dark blue one, as do most members of the Supreme Council.

*BattleCouple: Shinn and [[spoiler:Stella after her HighHeelFaceTurn]]. Later also [[spoiler: Athrun and Cagalli]].

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Heine Westenfluss; off the battlefield, he's just about the nicest, most mellow guy you could ever want to run into. In combat…well, let's just say he's a member of FAITH for a reason.
** Stella Loussier also counts. Normally, she's a pretty sweet, naïve, slightly ditzy teenage girl. In combat, she is absolutely without mercy.

* BeamSpam: Abyss, Blast Impulse, Freedom, the Saviour Gundams, and Destiny. The reigning king of this, however, is the Destroy.

* BerserkButton: It is highly recommended not to appear like you are even remotely contemplating the thought of harming anyone Shinn Asuka happens to be particularly close to. Bad things will happen to you if you do.

* BFG: Several examples, including the Gunner ZAKU, as well as every unit listed under Beam Spam directly above.

* BFS: The Sword Impulse and Destiny Gundam each have two, both of which can be combined at the pommel. The Storm Impulse also has two slightly smaller ones.

* BigBadEnsemble: Durendal and Jibril are on opposite sides of the war, utterly hate each other, and both need to die in order for the story to end well. Which of the two is worse is arguable.

* BigDamnHeroes: A couple of characters get one, but most notably Kira Yamato.

* BladeOnAStick: Two examples - the Abyss has a beam lance, which has both a physical and a beam blade. And the Falx long-handled dual beam axe used by Yzak while piloting the ZAKU Warrior and DOM Trooper.

* BodyDouble: Meer Campbell, for Lacus Clyne.

*BodyguardCrush: Athrun and Cagalli, until the former's departure from Orb.

* BridgeBunnies: Abigail Windsor, most prominently.

* BrokenBird: Stella Loussier, SO much. Shinn is also a male example.

* TheCaptain: Several characters throughout the story. Most worthy of mention are Yzak, Natarle, Colonel Todaka, and OriginalCharacter Bernard McCaffrey.

* CaptainErsatz: of a sort - Lukas O'Donnell, who replaces the character of Neo Roanoke from the series.

* ChestBlaster: A couple of units have these, such as the Abyss. The Destroy has three on its main body as well, which are appropriately scaled up in proportion to its massive size.

* ColonyDrop: Wouldn't be Gundam without one. In this case, TheRemnant of Patrick Zala's genocidal anti-Natural faction drop the wreckage of Junius 7 onto the Earth, providing ''casus belli'' for the Alliance to start another war against the PLANTs.

* CombiningMecha: The Impulse. , which follows the standard top/bottom/cockpit fighter formula of several previous Gundams, plus its various [[{{MechaExpansionPack}} Silhouette Packs]]. Used to extraordinary effect by Shinn to defeat Kira and destroy the Freedom

* CompositeCharacter: As in the series, Shinn is basically one for both [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam Amuro]] and [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Kamille]]. Stella is also one, being basically Rosamia Badam, living Four Murasame's life - except for [[spoiler: the fact that Stella actually survives]].

* CoolShip: Several. To whit, The ''Archangel'', until [[spoiler: its destruction]]; The ''Minerva''; The Izumo-class, of which there are a total of four; and the Niranjan-class, which can ''[[InvisibilityCloak turn invisible. Two of these exist, one commanded by Natarle Badgiruel]]''.

* CorporalPunishment: Athrun to Shinn, twice. Once for disobeying orders during the Indian Ocean battle, and once after Shinn [[spoiler: brags after apparently killing Kira.]]

* CrashIntoHello: Shinn meets Stella this way. She crashes into him backwards, so Shinn ends up [[ThanksForTheMammary accidentally groping her]]

* CurbStompBattle: Any fight primarily involving the ''Minerva'' fighting against mooks. But the most notable examples are:
**The second and final battle between the Freedom and Saviour ends up this, with the Saviour being badly beaten in seconds. It is later implied that [[spoiler:the Saviour had been sabotaged, which contributed to this.]]
** Impulse v. Freedom during Operation Angel Down; especially notable because the Impulse is inferior in almost every respect to the Freedom.

* CustomUniformOfSexy: Lunamaria, who wears a really short pink miniskirt with her uniform. Nobody seems to comment.

* EarnYourHappyEnding: Shinn, who has gone through a TraumaCongaLine that began when his entire family was horrifically killed right before his eyes when he was just fourteen, and continues through to the end of the story.

* EvilIsBigger: The Atlantic Federation seems to have a fixation with progressively bigger mobile armors, leading up to the Destroy.

* EvilIsHammy: Jibril, Yuna Roma Seiran

*EvilerThanThou: Jibril and Durendal, with everyone else caught in the middle.

*Expy: The entire New Millennium mobile suit line is both this and a ShoutOut to [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam the original Gundam]], right down to using the same names.

* FunWithAcronyms: The story, like the series it's based on, is filled with it: PLANT, GUNDAM, OMNI, as well as ZAKU(bonus points for having an acronym in an acronym), GOUF, and DOM. SEED as well, of course.

* GoOutWithASmile: Seems to be played heart-wrenchingly straight [[spoiler: with Stella, when she confesses her love to Shinn as she goes out following the Destroy's defeat.]] Actually a subversion, since [[spoiler: the very next chapter immediately reveals her to be NotQuiteDead, and she ultimately survives.]]

* GreyAndGrayMorality: Throughout; the only truly, unarguably evil character is still Jibril

* HighHeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Stella, the only female Phantom Pain pilot, who defects to ZAFT to be with Shinn. Doubles as DefectingForLove]]

* ILetGwenStacyDie: All over the place. Kira and Shinn are the main examples, and this is in fact one of the things that drive the actions of both throughout the story

*ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler: Auel Neider, who takes a beam javelin to the gut, just like in the series. Also, the Freedom, by the Impulse.]]

* KatanasAreJustBetter: Averted - The GINN High-Maneuver Type II used by the zealots instigating the ColonyDrop use katanas, but they are hopelessly outclassed by newer beam weapon-equipped mobile suits, and the only reason they last as long as they did is that each and every one of them is an experienced veteran, and most of their opponents are rookies.

* KarmaHoudini: During her rampage across Eurasia in the Destroy, Stella levels three cities and kills several million people. This is never brought up following her HeelFaceTurn. Possibly justified because A. she was manipulated into doing so by Lukas, and B. Very few people actually know that she was the pilot.

* KilledOffForReal: Played brutally straight with [[spoiler:Lacus Clyne, who is killed in her second appearance with a 12.7x99mm rifle round.]]. There are several other examples.

* KillTheCutie: Averted. Though [[spoiler: Kira attempts to kill Stella to stop the Destroy's rampage, Shinn stops him from delivering the finishing blow. Despite extremely severe injuries, Stella ultimately survives]].

* LandSeaSky: The aerial-combat Chaos, amphibious Abyss, and ground-combat Gaia, in the first part of the story. One is a mobile armor, the other two are transformable mobile suits each with appropriate MeaningfulName.

* LargeHam: Jibril, a specialist in ChewingTheScenery.

* LatexSpaceSuit: The pilot's flight/space suits, as usual.

* MassOhCrap: Pretty much the whole cast's reaction when the Destroy first appears.

* MeaningfulName: Several examples. For instance, the Destiny's two {{BFS}} are named "Moralltach", which is Gaelic for "Great Fury", and it also has a smaller blade mounted to its shield called "Beagalltach", or "Little Fury". Now consider Shinn's [[{HairTriggerTemper}} temper]] for a moment.
** Another example: In the series, Jibril is simply referred to by his surname or as "Lord Jibril". In this version, he has a first name, which is Teivel, which means exactly what it sounds like.
** The Kerberos BuCUE, named after the three-headed hellhound of Greek mythology. Guess what it looks like.

* MidSeasonUpgrade: ''Every'' named pilot that's not dead by the middle of the story. Shinn and Yzak each get two.

* MythologyGag: Numerous
** The Impulse, to both the original [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam Gundam]] and [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Gundam MkII]].
** The Destiny Gundam, to the [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Zeta Gundam]], the [[Anime/MobileSuitVictoryGundam V2 Gundam]], the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamF91 Gundam F91]], and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Tallgeese II]]
** The Akatsuki, to the [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Hyaku Shiki]]
** The Destroy, to both the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam Big Zam]] and, in the case of the first one, the [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Psyco Gundam]], due to its color scheme and pilot.
** Though the two characters are completely different in nearly every aspect, Miriallia Haww's cameo as a freelance photojournalist still references Kai Shiden's similar cameo in [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Zeta Gundam]]

* NiceJobFixingItVillain: [[spoiler: Durendal, for getting Kira to come out of retirement by assassinating his girlfriend.]] Nice Job.

* NGOSuperpower: Blue Cosmos/Logos.

* NoOneCouldSurviveThat: Played with in the case of [[spoiler:Kira and the Freedom's explosion. He does survive, but is crippled for life.]]

* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler: Stella, who is critically injured but survives the Destroy's destruction. Later revealed to have been the case for Rey as well]]

* NukeEm: The Atlantic Federation tries to do this to the PLANTs again - it doesn't end well.

* OlderAndWiser: The returning Seed cast, and especially Athrun, who acts as a mentor to Shinn.

* OneManArmy: Anyone piloting a Destroy - mostly. Also, Kira in the Freedom; Athrun and Shinn, especially after their MidSeasonUpgrade.

* OriginalCharacter: Several, a couple of which are also ShoutOuts. Most notable original characters play only a supporting role: Captain Bernard MacCaffrey, the scientists Martin Rice and Megan Kinney, and President Baum and Vice-President Marshall of the Eurasian Federation are the main ones.

* PaperThinDisguise: Athrun's "Alex Dino" identity at the beginning of the story, lasts precisely until the moment he opens his mouth.

* PietaPlagiarism: [[spoiler:Shinn carrying Stella]].

* PrecisionFStrike: Yzak, several times. Also, Shinn on one occasion.

* PraetorianGuard: FAITH (Fast Acting Integrated Tactical Headquarters), a ZAFT élite Special Forces unit that only answers to Durendal and the Supreme Council - in practice, mostly Durendal. The Eurasian Federation has the analogous 501st Autonomous Mobile Corps.

* PutOnABus: A couple of characters. In most cases, TheBusCameBack eventually.

* RedEyesTakeWarning: Shinn Asuka.

* TheReveal: A couple of minor ones [[spoiler: concerning first Athrun, then Meer learning about Lacus's assassination]].

* ReplacementScrappy: Jibril, who while still a raging [[{{FantasticRacism}} anti-Coordinator supremacist]], lacks the [[SmugSnake charisma]] and intelligence of his predecessor, Muruta Azrael.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Shinn, by means of providing him with extensive character development he was denied in the series. Later, [[spoiler: Meer as well, after she learns what happened to Lacus]].

* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Shinn, during Operation Angel Down, which results in [[spoiler: the destruction of the Freedom and apparent death of its pilot]].

* SayMyName: Athrun, when [[spoiler: Kira is apparently killed by Shinn]]. Also, [[spoiler: Kira, when Lacus is assassinated]].

* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Shinn, during the Indian Ocean battle, breaks off combat to level an Alliance base and free civilian prisoners being used as forced labor. When Athrun administers CorporalPunishment afterwards, Shinn responds with this trope. And gets slapped again.

* ShoutOut: Most Original Characters are this, but perhaps the most obvious is the BattleCouple [[spoiler: Shinn and Stella, whose machines are [[{{Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross}} blue and red respectively]]

* StateSec: Phantom Pain, though kind of downplayed, much as in the series. Technically an Atlantic Federation Special Ops unit, actually controlled by [[{{NGOSuperpower}} Blue Cosmos/Logos]]

* Stripperiffic: Meer's various outfits and arguably Lunamaria's miniskirt-uniform.

* SuperMode: SEED mode, the ill-explained ability of certain characters to suddenly turn their abilities UpToEleven.

* SuperPrototype: The Gundams, of course. Also, the Alliance fields a series of very large Super Prototype mobile armors. The DOM Trooper technically is one as well.

* ThemeNaming: Most of the weapons of the Minerva have names derived from Wagner operas and/or Norse mythology, as does the WaveMotionGun "Nibelung".
** Nearly all BFS in the series are named after mythological swords.

* TrainingFromHell: What the Extendeds are put through that turns them into TykeBombs

* TransformingMecha: Several, such as the Saviour Gundams, the Gaia, Abyss, and Murasame.

* TransformationIsAFreeAction: Subverted multiple times with the Impulse's [[{{MechaExpansionPack}} Silhouette Packs]]. Any time an enemy unit tries to shoot it down before it can reach the Impulse, someone else intervenes to prevent them from doing so.

* TriggerPhrase: The Extendeds each have a pre-programmed "Block Word".

* VillainsNeverLie: [[spoiler:Gilbert Durendal]], with his speeches in the early part of the story

* WaveMotionGun: Multiple examples, including the Tannhauser and Lohengrin positron blaster cannons; The Destroy, which [[{{BeamSpam}} beam-spams]] them; Then there's Nibelung and Requiem, which are this turned UpToEleven.

* WeaponsOfMassDestruction: The [[NukeEm nukes]], Requiem, Nibelung, and the Destroy

* WelcomeBackTraitor: Dearka and Athrun. However, both are stripped of their élite status and required to re-enlist (which was the case only for Dearka in the series)

* WhatTheHellHero: Shinn pretty much entirely blames what happens to his family on Cagalli, and he is pretty obvious about it. He is called out a number of times on it, and eventually gets over it.
** Also Kira, who is called out by Athrun on the fact that his interfering in battles actually makes things worse.

* WhiteHairedPrettyBoy: Yzak.

* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Stella, who is put into the Destroy and goes on a city-destroying rampage, destroying everything in sight and killing millions because she is terrified that they will kill her.

* XanatosSpeedChess / GambitRoulette: Whether Durendal is behind everything that happens in the series or is just very good at altering his plans to take advantage of events as they occur is up for debate for much of the story.

* ZenSurvivor: Athrun to Shinn and the other Minerva pilots.

* ZettaiRyouiki: Lunamaria's CustomUniformOfSexy, and one of the outfits worn by Meer
