* TheAtoner: He intends to make up for [[spoiler:how he berated Turtle for letting his sisters, Abalone and Snapper die]], especially when he finds out [[spoiler:that Snapper was outside the Deep Palace all along.]] Unfortunately, he gets captured before he has a chance to ever do so.

* IntroOnlyPointOfView: The prologue of ''Talons of Power'' is told from his point of view, the only time we get a look into his thoughts in the series.

* KidHero: He's the oldest out of the three protagonists of ''Darkstalker'', but is still only 5-7 years old throughout most of the story.

* NaughtyIsGood: As a dragonet she's disobedient and tends to earn the ire of the queen. Bt she's a very good dragon, and Darkstalker's soul reader even shows that she's almost ''entirely'' good.

* BigSisterBully: She and her sister Sapphire to their brother Albatross. It didn't work out well for ''either'' of them.

* ADayInTheLimelight: Gets a POV in ''Darkstalker''.

* FriendlessBackground: He never had any friends after the massacre, because they were all scared of his powers.

* ProperlyParanoid: He correctly guesses that it might not be a good idea to [[spoiler:use Darkstalker's scroll]] because [[spoiler: Darkstalker might have cast a spell on it that would alert him.]]

* SurvivorGuilt: He, [[spoiler:his sister and Current]] were the ''only'' members of the Royal Family to survive Albatross' rampage. It tears him apart inside. [[spoiler: Especially because he's the one who ultimately stopped his grandfather, leaving him convinced that it's all his fault things got so bad. And since he blames himself for hiding when Albatross started killing his family, because he was the only one who could have saved them.]]
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: He can't go back to the Sea Kingdom because of how ostracized he is [[spoiler:and breaking both of his oaths.]]

* StarCrossedLovers: With Fathom. First they're not supposed to be together because of her coming from a lower-class family while he's a prince, and then because of Pearl not wanting them to have dragonets who might have animus powers.

* KickTheDog: Does one of these essentially every time she's onscreen, whether to Albatross or someone else.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: She was outwardly a dignified, beautiful, beloved queen to the SeaWings, but there's a great many hints underneath that she's a classist, selfish, arrogant bitch beneath her classy exterior, even trying to force Fathom to stop hanging out with Indigo because she sees Indigo as beneath him.

* TheCharmer: She's quite the smooth talker, as it's mentioned she's been able to smooth over issues with the MudWings and RainWings, and was doing the same with the SkyWings after building villages on coastlines in their territory.

* LaserGuidedKarma: Decades of emotionally abusing Albatross in order to make him "atone" for maiming Sapphire resulted in her being brutally murdered in front of the entire SeaWing court, with the majority of her family following afterwards.

* DeclarationOfProtection: He teaches Tsunami the phrase "I will protect you" in aquatic, which Tsunami mistakes for this and is predictably enraged by.

* TheDogBitesBack: He does this inadvertently to Sapphire when she teases him, [[spoiler:telling a shell he was paying for to rip her claws out]]. Then later, Lagoon telling him that he'll never escape what he did to Sapphire [[spoiler:drives him into his murderous rampage after she'd emotionally abused him with what he did to Sapphire his entire life.]]

* TheDogBitesBack: He does this inadvertently to Sapphire when she teases him, [[spoiler:telling a shell he was paying for to rip her claws out]]. Then later, Lagoon telling him that he'll never escape what he did to Sapphire [[spoiler:drives him into his murderous rampage.]]

* KnightTemplarParent: She's willing to torture and execute any guard for her eggs who failed to protect them from being killed, or anyone she suspects of being the murderer, including one she suspects just because of Blister's manipulations and for [[spoiler:being the son of the dragon who kidnapped one of her daughters.]]

* OffingTheOffspring: Killed her oldest daughter, Orca, in a challenge for the throne, which [[KillTheOnesYouLove she still grieves about]]. She's also one of the suspects for killing her other daughters [[spoiler: though it turns out she was not responsible]].

* SinsOfOurFathers: Tends to be Coral's scapegoat thanks to being [[spoiler: Webs']] son. This leads to [[spoiler: Blister manipulating Coral into thinking he is part of a conspiracy to kill her female dragonets along with his father just because of their relationship, and she nearly has him executed.]]
* YoungAndInCharge: Leads [[spoiler: the Talons of Peace]] at seven years old.

* ArmoredDragons: Wears armor [[spoiler: when he tries to kill Tsunami.]]

* WifeHusbandry: He wants to raise [[spoiler: either Anemone or Auklet (a one-year old dragonet and a newborn, respectively]] to be his future wife.

* EvilUncle: Is Tsunami's uncle, and is aggressive towards her and the other dragonets, to the point of [[spoiler: Locking all of them except Tsunami in a prison and not caring that they might drown when a storm comes]]. He also might be responsible for the deaths of Tsunami's sisters [[spoiler: though it turns out he isn't, and he turns out to be genuinely loyal to the SeaWings and even, in Coral's view, too compassionate towards the dragons guarding her eggs]].

* AbelAndCain: [[spoiler: Creates a LivingStatue designed to kill all of her sisters, which is eventually stopped by Tsunami.]]

* AlphaBitch: Shows herself to be one upon attending Jade Academy.

* GreenEyedMonster: [[spoiler:Becomes jealous of Moonwatcher's [[EvilMentor (complicated) relationship with Darkstalker,]] and treats her horribly as a result.
* IncomingHam: "DARKSTALKER!" Said while [[spoiler:Using her animus powers to create a dramatic thunderstorm.]]

* RoyalBrat: Moon's peek into Anemone's mind reveals that she's [[ItsAllAboutMe entitled and arrogant]], believing that others should kowtow to her whims. [[spoiler:In Talons of Power, Anemone is shown complaining about having to clean her new room, because she never had to in the Kingdom of the Sea. Meanwhile, [[BreakTheCutie Kinkajou]] comments that she never even ''had'' a room of her own, and it wasn't a big deal. When Moonwatcher refuses to do it for her, Anemone [[GreenEyedMonster enchants a broom to ''hit and abuse Moon until she's satisfied''.]] Ouch.]]
* ThenLetMeBeEvil: How she justifies [[spoiler:trying to kill her family with her powers. She says that all animus dragons are destined to become evil anyway, so there's no point in trying to be cowardly about it.]]
* TookALevelInJerkass: In ''Moon Rising''. It is still ambiguous whether she was always like this when not around Tsunami or if it is because of her [[spoiler:animus powers]].

* DeadlyDecadentCourt: The queen's council is this.

* BadassGay: Not only does she pull back from [[spoiler:the edge of the MoralEventHorizon with the help of Turtle, but she also helps make peace between the [=IceWings=] and [=NightWings=] by helping both tribes know what the other is feeling for basically a minute and a half before teleporting them back to their respective kingdoms, as well as removing the love spell she had put on Kinkajou to make her love Turtle. By the end of ''The Darkness of Dragons'', she also is following a crush she has on blind [=RainWing=] dragon and fellow female student, Tamarin. While unknown if the feelings are reciprocated, Anemone fits this trope well at least by the end.]]

* LeftForDead: By [[spoiler:Morrowseer]]. He's not injured, but he's alone in enemy territory and it is presumed that he couldn't possibly live.[[spoiler: He gets discovered by a Talons of Peace spy and rescued.]]

* AboveTheInfluence: G-rated example. He feels very uncomfortable whenever [[spoiler:Kinkajou]] shows any affection toward him and tries to avoid her, given that [[spoiler:Anemone enchanted her to be in love with him.]]
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: When [[spoiler:Darkstalker]] threatens to kill [[spoiler:Kinkajou]] if he doesn't reveal himself, he [[spoiler:gives up his stick to save Kinkajou]], though he does manage to [[spoiler:give Anemone the stick instead]] in the process.
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler:Darkstalker]] takes away his [[spoiler:animus powers]] once he [[spoiler:reveals his existence by giving his stick to Anemone.]]

* CommonalityConnection: With Peril. He notes that he's not scared of her [[spoiler:because they both have dangerous powers.]]
* CreateYourOwnVillain: He was responsible for [[spoiler:giving Anemone animus powers]], leading him to think it's his responsibility to stop her.
* DissonantSerenity: Still remains his usual calm when talking about Coral torturing a [=SkyWing=], and even seems excited about the affects of dragon flame cactus. Tsunami and Sunny are somewhat creeped out by this.
* EmeraldPower: He is green and has greenish bioluminescent scales, and he's the protagonist of the book titled "Talons of Power" [[spoiler:and an animus]].
* ForceAndFinesse: [[ExaggeratedTrope exaggerated]] with him and Peril. He's helpless in close combat and gets tired easily from just flying, but [[spoiler:has the very rare and powerful animus magic]], while Peril can kill anyone she touches, has NighInvulnerability, and is helpless in long-range fights where her opponent isn't tied down.
* GenreSavvy: He reads lots of fiction scrolls and is consequentially always treating his life like a work of fiction and trying to figure out what genre he's in so he can act like this. It leads to him immediately figuring out that [[ASimplePlan Kinkajou's plan]] to save Jade Mountain won't work.
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: He really doesn't take being alone well. Eventually leading to him [[spoiler:using his powers]] to make his siblings stop ignoring his existence as retribution for him failing to save his sisters.
* HeirClubForMen: A gender-inverted example. Because Turtle's male, he will never inherit the [=SeaWing=] throne. That is why he wasn't assassinated like Coral's daughters.
* HeroicSacrifice: He risks his life by [[spoiler:throwing away the stick concealing him from Darkstalker]] in order to save [[spoiler:Kinkajou and Anemone]]. [[spoiler:He doesn't die, but ends up imprisoned and drained of his powers.]]
* [[HerCodeNameWasMarySue His Code Name Was "Gary Stu"]]: He used to write stories in his spare time about him being an awesome hero who was respected by the whole tribe.
* IdenticalGrandson: He looks exactly like his distant ancestor Fathom.
* IJustWantToBeBadass: He wants to be a badass hero, but over time he's started thinking it is useless trying to be that way.
* ItsAllJunk: He destroyed all of the [[HerCodeNameWasMarySue wish fulfillment]] scrolls he wrote after failing to be heroic enough in real life.
* TheLoad: He sees himself as this.
--> "He wasn't the hero, and he wasn't the storyteller. He was the idiot who fell over his claws in the first chapter, had to be rescued in the fourth, ruined the whole plan in the ninth, and ran away at the end, or died, if he were really stupid."
* LovableCoward: He's grown up sheltered (if not always favored) as a [=SeaWing=] prince and doesn't have a particularly dynamic personality, so he'd prefer to stay in Jade Mountain Academy than go on scary and life-threatening adventures. He's still a [[NiceGuy friendly]] and likable character who will always help the other dragons if it's necessary.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Has ''thirty-one'' brothers. A justified trope, as Coral was trying to birth an heir.
* MellowFellow: Is unfailingly nice and kind but rather detached and unwilling to take action. His mellowness is ultimately hiding his crippling fear of actually doing something heroic, though.
* MomentKiller: Peril gets quite annoyed when he shows up once in ''Escaping Peril'' just when she and Clay were finally alone and she was fantasizing about a romantic moment.
* MyGreatestFailure: He once had a chance to prove himself as a hero but failed, and it still haunts him.
* NighInvulnerability: He becomes this [[spoiler:accidentally, due to one of his spells he used to protect himself from Anemone that ends up being unexpectedly permanent.]]
* NonActionGuy: He can barely even stand flying for a day, let alone epic battles and adventures, [[spoiler:though his animus powers are certainly helpful.]]
* NiceGuy: Is generally mild and polite. Even when [[spoiler:Moon reveals her powers]], his first priority is to help heal her injuries.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: He fakes being useless and boring so [[spoiler:no one will try to take advantage of his animus powers.]]
* ParentalNeglect: Is ignored by Queen Coral because he isn't in the line of succession.
* PsychicBlockDefense: Moonwatcher can't read his mind at all - it's completely static. [[spoiler:this is because he is wearing skyfire.]]
* SmallStepsHero: Embraces this at the end of ''Talons of Power'' - he realizes he can't do something dramatic and save the world, fighting for the greater good even if it means [[spoiler:sacrificing Kinkajou and potentially Anemone's lives]], but he can still [[spoiler:save them both.]]
* SpannerInTheWorks: The other dragonets of Jade Mountain Academy want him to be this, since he [[spoiler:has made his existence completely invisible to the otherwise-omniscient Darkstalker.]]
* StoppedCaring: After [[MyGreatestFailure his greatest failure]] above, he stopped trying to stand out or do anything important with his life and just tried to get by.
* SquishyWizard: He's horrible at any physical task [[spoiler:though he's an animus dragon.]]
* WellDoneSonGuy: He wants to get attention from his mother, particularly for his writing skills.
* TheWatson: He briefly thinks of himself as this to Qibli when comparing himself to characters in stories he has read.
* TooDumbToLive: He's half-convinces that this will be his fate, especially when Darkstalker shows up.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatPerks: How does he use his [[spoiler: animus powers]]? To stop his wings from being sore when he flies too much.

* ExplainExplainOhCrap: When he questions his grandfather on how Albatross discovered he was an animus, Albatross casually reveals that it was while being teased his sister, Sapphire. Fathom mentally goes over that while he's heard an "Aunt Sapphire" mentioned once or twice, it sure is weird that he knows nothing about her. He knows everything about the rest of the Royal Family, but was never told anything even about her current status. Not even if....she's...alive...[[spoiler: She is alive, but Albatross was so angry at her teasing that he used his nascent powers to maim her until the pain drove her insane.]]

** IJustWantToBeNormal: Of course, this behavior takes a complete 180-turn after the Massacre, [[BlessedWithSuck after his powers reduce him to an outcast.]]
