->'''Voiced by:''' Rodrigo Blaas

A small gnome who manages to steal Jim's Amulet.
----
* BearerOfBadNews: Subverted; while he does have good news in the form of finding Claire's brother, he was also found by Gunmar, who only let him live so he can deliver a message to the Trollhunter.
* BerserkButton: Like any other gnome, he hates it when his hat is knocked off his head.
* CargoShip: He's dating the doll in Toby's Nana's dollhouse.
* CuteCreatureCreepyMouth: He has many sharp teeth in his mouth.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Or to be more accurate, sparing his life earns Jim his loyalty.
* IOweYouMyLife: After Jim spares his life, he becomes an ally of the Trollhunters and lives in Tobey's dollhouse.
* OurGnomesAreWeirder: His species is seen as vermin. He does not speak English, possesses sharp teeth, and has a unicorn-like horn underneath his pointy hat. Though he does seem to possess a level of sentience.
* TheUnintelligible: Speaks in an incoherent grumbling.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/DavidBradley

The mysterious wizard that created the Trollhunter amulet.
----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: His true appearance is notably never shown, and there are some dialogue clues that he might be a troll. [[spoiler:That is until season 3, where it is confirmed he is a human wizard]].
* BigGood: He created the Amulet of Daylight, and by extension, the entire Trollhunter legacy.
* BlackComedyCannibalism: Comments that Toby is lucky he didn't eat him in the cave. When asked if that was a joke, he says "Mmm, not really".
* BrokenPedestal: His UnscrupulousHero antics have a habit of getting people not to vote for him when it comes to certain plans or ideas.
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: In his efforts to imprison Morgana, most of Merlin's magic was lost, as well as putting him into a sleep lasting centuries.
* BroughtDownToBadass: While he [[BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu lost most of his magical powers in the battle that led to Morgana’s imprisonment]], he is still a competent wizard and a skilled craftsman. He was able to reassemble the amulet despite not having worked with it for centuries, he was able to reverse engineer various forms of modern technology (including Jim’s beloved Vespa) into armor despite his lack of resources, was able to create a cradlestone (helping save the various infant familiars in the Darklands) using their microwave, concoct a spell that [[spoiler:would turn Jim into a troll]] all from memory, project memories onto the environment and a slew of other things.
* CatchPhrase: In ''Wizards'', when giving instructions to his apprentice, he often preempts Douxie's objections by finishing with:
-->'''Merlin''': …and don't--\\
'''Douxie''': But Master…!\\
'''Merlin''': --"But Master" ''me''.
* TheCavalryArrivesLate: Merlin's big plan is to get the Staff of Avalon to regain his great magic powers, in which he would then single-handedly win the battle against Morgana, Gunmar, and their Gumm-Gumm hordes. It is not until ''after'' Jim slays Gunmar, wipes out his army, and banished Morgana to the Shadow Realm with no way back ''without him'' does he regain his powers.
-->'''Blinky:''' Ah, ''now'' he shows up.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In the first series, he seemed to have FantasticRacism towards trolls, considering that he rather callously brushed off Blinky after the latter mentioned how honored he was to meet him, seemed to have a friendliness towards Claire that had some… unsettling implications, and seemed to have more of a priority on regaining his power and defeating Morgana over protecting the people of Arcadia. In the third series, these more unflattering attributes seem to have been dropped, with him treating trolls and Claire hardly any different from other humans, with his relationship with Douxie and Arthur being more emphasized as friendly, prioritized the latter's survival as well as the former's proper behavior, discipline, and training, and does not really consider his power that important this time.
* TheCynic: Due to the era that he is from the centuries of experience, he does not have much faith in others, usually deflating whatever image people have of him intentionally and prioritizing TheNeedsOfTheMany in spite of knowing the kind of harm his decisions may take.
* ForTheGreaterGood: Merlin's strong belief. He's somewhat firmly willing to sacrifice his own personal desires for the good of the world (especially his allies', [[WhatTheHellHero much to their scowling]]). It can be argued that this is also his FatalFlaw as many characters believe it to be.
--> '''Merlin:''' [[InvokedTrope I do what I must for the greater good]].
* TheGhost: His name is mentioned at various intervals, though little is ever elaborated. Nor is he ever actually present. [[UnseenNoMore This is later subverted in Season Three, revealing that not only was he still alive, but he joins the team with the intent of defeating Morgana and Gunmar.]]
* GoodIsNotNice: Merlin is old, cranky, and ornery, quick to play favorites, and dole out insults. Some of this comes from being the smartest guy in the room, and when Jim calls him a jerk at one point, Merlin agrees with him but points out that it doesn't make him wrong.
* HypocriticalHeartwarming: PlayedForDrama. He derided Jim for wanting to save his mother over preparing for the Day of Eternal Night. [[spoiler:In ''Wizards'', he spends his last moments rescuing Douxie from the Arcane Order, at the cost of his life]].
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: His views of seeing the bigger picture lead him to [[spoiler:manipulate Jim into willingly turning himself into a troll permanently]].
* InsufferableGenius: He is a master of the mystic arts and possesses mild omniscience that has allowed him to plan against the forces of darkness centuries in advance. He is also very cynical, has a tendency to selectively ignore those around him, and acts on KnightTemplar levels of morally-compromisable ideas in the name of defeating his enemies.
* ItsAllAboutMe: In ''Trollhunters'', his biggest concern was regaining his magical power from Morgana rather than protecting the humans and trolls that Gunmar was threatening.
* JadeColoredGlasses: He tells Jim he was once as idealistic as him.
* {{Jerkass}}: He is generally condescending to others, casually insulting other characters, rendering [[ItsAllAboutMe his]] battle with Morgana "the real battle" while ignoring the massive threat Gunmar and his armies pose and trying to pull the moves on an underaged girl. Jim even lampshades this, with Merlin fully acknowledging it as well. His UnscrupulousHero antics don't endear him at all, [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold though he does care about his allies, even if he doesn't always show it well]].
-->'''Jim''': [[LampshadeHanging You're a real jerk, you know that]]?\\
'''Merlin''': Yes, [[JerkassHasAPoint but that doesn't make me wrong]].
* JerkassHasAPoint: [[spoiler:His methods were underhanded, but at the end of the day he's correct that Jim wouldn't have survived and been able to defeat Gunmar as a human.]] Inverted in ''Wizards'' when Claire calls him out for manipulating Jim to do so in the first place; Douxie is forced to admit that she has a solid point.
* JerkassRealization: [[spoiler:In his last moments, he admitted he was a poor master to Douxie and a poorer protector of the world by following Arthur blindly. Merlin reassures Douxie that he will be a RedeemingReplacement]].
--> '''Merlin''': Do not blame yourself. I spent a lifetime serving the [[ThePoorlyChosenOne wrong master]], trying to save this world. But I saw a glimmer of greatness… of what you could become. And the greatest thing I have ever accomplished… was ''saving you''.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: [[spoiler:Underneath his jaded exterior, Merlin genuinely does care for his pupils, especially Douxie, even if he doesn't always show it.]]
* KarmicDeath: He spent his time in Camelot blindly supporting Arthur's genocide against magical creatures, playing TheLongGame until Arthur could see reason about the amulet. Merlin also derided the people who wore their hearts on their sleeves. [[spoiler:Merlin dies in an attempt to rescue Douxie, and when a resurrected Arthur "rewards" him for his loyalty with a stab through the chest and knocking him out of the Arcane Order ship. He notes the irony with dignity.]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Is killed by Arthur in ''Wizards''.]]
* KnightTemplar: He is willing to resort to violence and lead people to their deaths if it serves the greater good.
* KungFuWizard: Despite his age, Merlin is a competent fighter, being able to fight circles around Jim and even conjures a sword as his primary weapon.
* LackOfEmpathy: Zigzagged. Merlin's strong belief in the greater good of the world almost always makes him look like a total [[TheSociopath sociopath]], especially towards his allies but has times when he sympathizes with those he personally knows. [[spoiler:He had no regret of concocting a potion to turn Jim into a half-troll, along with a SadisticChoice, but still gave him a choice regardless instead of forcing him. He even attacked Morgana without a second thought when she fights Arthur, but looked genuinely shocked that his most accomplished apprentice [[FaceHeelTurn turned on them]]. And, of course, he was clearly saddened at Morgana's first demise and did not want Douxie to suffer the same fate as Morgana. He was later against the idea of saving Jim when he is corrupted by the Green Knight's shard but agrees on Douxie's terms. He finally shows genuine empathy to Douxie when he is fatally stabbed by the Green Knight (whom he discovers is his old friend, Arthur), and finally in the afterlife where he [[SoProudOfYou congratulates his apprentice on his past accomplishments]] without his guidance]].
* LightEmUp: Manifesting as a green or blue magic, that causes daylight to shine through.
* MeaningfulName: Merlin's last name, Ambrosius, is Latin for "immortal" and "divine".
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: A nearly averted version, as [[spoiler:he tries prioritizing Morgana over Gunmar, pointing out that while Gunmar’s threat is more immediate, Morgana’s magic could spell doom for the entire world. When he is given the chance, he completely overlooks the idea that Morgana would render the staff useless and be at her mercy. It is not until the rest of the team kills Gunmar and banishes Morgana to the Shadow Realm does he regain his powers, making him essentially TheMillstone for the team.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: He only went AlwaysSaveTheGirl once under Douxie's insistence. [[spoiler:When the Arcane Order held Douxie hostage and threatened him unless he produced Nari, Merlin went on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge then and there. When his efforts got him killed, Merlin genuinely apologized to Douxie for all the harm he caused with his dying breath]].
* PetTheDog:
** He makes it easier for [=NotEnrique=] and Chompsky to rescue all the babies trapped in the Dark Lands by creating a crystal that can hold all of them without being prompted.
** His last act is his most decent one when he refuses to [[spoiler:let the Arcane Order hold Douxie as a hostage in exchange for Nari, or flee into the night. Merlin immediately [[PapaWolf fought to the bitter end to rescue his apprentice]]. Then he admitted to Douxie that he was chasing after an ideal by following Arthur blindly]].
* TheRival: To the Arcane Order. It's clear that Merlin has a bit of a history with the Arcane Order, and it's implied that they have been bitter enemies ''long before'' Arthur united the kingdom.
** [[WordOfGod Aaron Waltke]] explains that since Merlin had [[AntiMentor no master of his own]] and had to acquire immortality at an old age, he unlocked countless magical secrets by stealing them from others, especially from the Arcane Order, hence their intense rivalry.
* ScrewPolitenessImASenior: He [[BrokenPedestal breaks every pedestal people try to put him on]] and makes a very poor house guest. He is also centuries older than a regular human.
* {{Seers}}: He possesses some level of omniscience that allowed him to foresee various events, having used this ability in the past to ensure the greater good in advance. [[NotSoOmniscientAfterAll It isn't perfect though]], as while he knew Jim would become the Trollhunter, he got his age wrong, nor was he absolutely certain that they would have been able to defeat Gunmar and Morgana. In ''ComicBook/TrollhuntersTalesOfArcadiaTheFelled'', it is revealed that this ability comes from the Omniscienstone, a PowerCrystal that bestows those who touch it visions of the past and [[MultipleChoiceFuture different, equally probable futures]].
* TokenWizard: ZigZagged. While Claire serves as this to the team itself, her signature weapon being a MagicStaff that she has the experience and command over with a spell, Merlin is much more experienced in magic and contributes as more of a DeusExMachina for certain problems too big and nebulous for the Trollhunters to fix (like creating the cradle-stone to solve the "hundreds of babies in the Darklands" dilemma). With that said, he spends most of the story with much of his power gone and either relying on physical combat to fight his way through a problem or manipulating the Trollhunters in some manner.
* UnscrupulousHero: While he is aware of the harm he causes and bereaved into doing so, Merlin's behavior and methods [[GoodIsNotNice come across as needlessly cruel and unusual at times]]. He seeks to prioritize all of the Trollhunter's efforts and resources into targeting Morgana despite Gunmar being the more immediate threat just so that he could have his magic powers back, believing that he could take out Gunmar himself when this happens [[TheNeedsOfTheMany in-spite of the casualties]]. He concocts a potion that [[spoiler:would turn Jim into a troll, knowing and admitting fully well that he has no way of reversing the spell]], and more or less manipulates Jim into accepting it. On a lesser scale he is very quick to belittle or insult those around him (only sometimes [[InnocentlyInsensitive by accident]]), especially [[SycophanticServant people that sing his praises]] (like Blinky) or those that prostrate before him (like Strickler).
* UnseenNoMore: Merlin is alluded to as the BigGood of the series numerous times, having been the creator of the Amulet of Daylight and the Trollhunter. In "Unbecoming", he appears in a disembodied voice, and in "For the Glory of Merlin", he is revealed to be alive (having been in an endless sleep for centuries) and joins the main cast.
* VagueAge: While he physically looks around senior age, he claims that he's been around since "the [Earth] was still young". It's unknown just how long he's existed on Earth.
* WhatTheHellHero: Upon learning of his ruthless plans there is no shortage of outrage on the part of the heroes. Claire in particular calls him out in ''Wizards'' for how he doesn't want to save Jim when it's his fault that Jim had to become the Trollhunter in the first place and sacrifice his humanity. Toby joins in, saying this is why no one likes Merlin.
* WouldHurtAChild: Merlin had no problems dueling a 16-year-old Jim and removing his amulet against his will, which was quite painful on Jim's part and even rendered him unconscious as a result. Merlin even magically shoved ''[[LikeASonToMe his own apprentice]]'' into a tree – hard – when he tried to intervene in Arthur and Morgana's quarrel.

The second heir of Camelot, Morgana was King Arthur's sister and Merlin's apprentice before her fall into dark magic. She is also the one who [[GreaterScopeVillain granted Angor Rot his immense power at the cost of his soul]] [[spoiler:and inadvertently orchestrated the conflict between humans and trollkind during the Age of Camelot.]]
----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: When she is first seen, the only part shown is a suspiciously human-like hand. When we see her physiology in full, her body is WreathedInFlames, so it is unclear if she is either a human or troll to any capacity. [[spoiler:Revealed to be human-looking in season 3, though Merlin claims that she was "much older" than him, implying that she was a HumanoidAbomination or god of some sort.]]
** [[spoiler:Turns out she ''was'' human, although the ones who gave her that power though are of a different story…]]
* AmbiguouslyLesbian: [[spoiler:Morgana seems just as broken up about what happened to Guinevere as Arthur. When she conjures a flower for a projection of Guinevere, one could not help but think that as her own kind of confession.]]
* TheArchmage: Either this or her boast of godhood was true. She easily outclasses ''everyone'' else except fully powered Merlin. [[spoiler:She solos all of the Trollhunters, including the released spirits of the past Trollhunters, and would have won if it weren't for Angor Rot's HeelFaceTurn.]]
* BigBadDuumvirate: [[spoiler:Forms one with Gunmar in Part 3.]]
* BrutalHonesty: During Angor Rot's faustian bargain. What Morgana has done to him was cruel and vindictive, and she's entirely at fault for causing him so much pain, but she never holds back her true feelings.
--> '''Morgana''': You fool, your flesh is worth NOTHING.
* CastingAShadow: Her magic is this, but it's manifested as a [[LightEmUp bright golden light]].
* CessationOfExistence: [[spoiler:This was implied to be her fate after her defeat in ''Trollhunters'', her prolonged stay in the Shadow Realm after her defeat requiring Bellroc and Skrael to use her essence in the Amulet of Daylight to return her to Earth.]]
* ClippedWingAngel: In ''Trollhunters'', Morgana was unstoppable, the Trollhunters were incapable of killing her and were forced to imprison her in the Shadow Realm. [[spoiler:By the time she was resurrected near the end of ''Wizards'', she is noticeably weaker, a mix of Merlin having regained his power from the Staff of Avalon and [[FromASingleCell forcibly resurrected from the fragment of her essence in the Amulet]] likely caused this.]]
* CompleteImmortality: She suffers no ill effects for being trapped in a crystal for hundreds of years (and being conscious the whole time) and shrugs off being impaled by Jim's sword, boasting that she cannot be killed. [[spoiler:Inverted, as Merlin was somehow able to cut her left hand off to make the Amulet, revealed in ''Wizards'' to have been done by Arthur with Excalibur. And later, when she's struck with an onyx shard and slowly dies from it until she crushes herself with a large piece of Camelot.]]
* CompositeCharacter: Morgan le Fay of Arthurian legend and Baba Yaga of Russian Mythos are one and the same.
* TheCorrupter: With the title "Mother of Monsters", she's the creator of changelings, which are known to have been normal trolls before ''something'' was done to them. She turned Angor Rot into her soulless servant. [[spoiler:And she took control of Claire once she used the staff to its fullest capacity]].
* CruelMercy: In her battle with Jim during the Eternal Night, she flat-out tells him that she spared his friends so that they would be ForcedToWatch her kill him.
* DarkIsEvil: Strickler claims that Claire has no shadow while Morgana possesses her because she ''is'' a shadow.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Why she's so hellbent on slaying Trollhunters:
--> '''Jim''': Geez, lady! What did I ever do to ''you?!''\\
'''Morgana''': Merlin never told you what he used to craft your Amulet, did he?! HE TOOK MY LEFT HAND!
* EvenEvilHasStandards: The moment that cemented her [[spoiler:[[HeelFaceTurn turning against the Arcane Order]] was when Arthur killed Merlin in cold blood. It's one thing that she wanted to murder Merlin since the man saw her as nothing more than a pawn and he used her hand to make the Trollhunter amulet. Merlin, however, was blindly loyal to Arthur and killed when he hesitated on seeing his former king's face. Morgana is shocked and asked Arthur why he would murder the one wizard that always believed in him]].
* FaceHeelTurn: She was once a genuinely kind and compassionate woman who loved her brother and still sought to protect magical creatures from his angry grief. However, having been [[JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope fed up]] by Arthur's arrogance and prejudice, Morgana loses her cool and turns on everyone, which sets her down the path to becoming the ultimate BigBad in ''Trollhunters''. [[spoiler:Eventually, after she is (unwillingly) resurrected from the Shadow Realm, [[HeelRealization she reflected on her actions]] and ultimately wished to atone for her mistakes and rest in peace by striping her undead brother of Excalibur for a new generation of heroes and [[HeroicSacrifice and sacrifices herself to save the world from Arthur's reign of chaos]].]]
* FatalFlaw: {{Pride}}. Despite her more-or-less good intentions, Morgana's greatest flaw had been, in fact, her hubris, viewing beings of magic (herself included) to be greater and more than the magic-fearing masses, especially her brother and to some extent, Merlin. In Morgana's eyes, others fear the magical and would quash it whereas she did not fear magic in any shape or form, for from her point of view, magic was true strength. However, her pride grew to the point where she turned on her own allies, believing them all to be "traitors" when they tried to help her reconcile with her paranoid brother. After being gifted the title of the "Eldritch Queen" by the Arcane Order, Morgana allowed her own arrogance and pain to turn her into the very same WickedWitch the Trollhunters confront to end her Eternal Night.
* FinalBoss: [[spoiler:She is this for ''Trollhunters'', being the only antagonist still active after Gunmar is killed.]]
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: She and Arthur switch these roles throughout ''Wizards''. She admits they're both grieving Gwen, who was killed by magical creatures, and understands his wrath, but she cannot let him cause genocide in the name of revenge. Arthur makes her hunt down the trolls as a test of loyalty, hearing her declarations as potential treason. The roles reverse when [[spoiler:she becomes the Pale Lady with the Arcane Order's help after her first death. Arthur sheathes his sword at the Battle of Killahead and apologizes to her, saying he was wrong to treat her and others so poorly. Then they switch ''back'' when Morgana realizes the Arcane Order doesn't have benevolent intentions]].
* ForTheEvulz: Implied in ''Trollhunters'', but is ultimately subverted in ''Wizards''. Merlin claimed to the Trollhunters that Morgana only supports Gunmar's campaign because she thrives on chaos and destruction. [[spoiler:In ''Wizards'', [[WellintentionedExtremist her reasons were much nobler]], wanting to defend magic from the likes of her prejudicial brother and JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope when their animosity boiled over. After witnessing Arthur's death at the hands of Bellroc, she vows to kill everyone, humans and magics alike, as well as Merlin's legacy, until everyone could [[TragicVillain feel her agony]].]]
* AGodAmI: She compares herself to a god while possessing Claire, possibly as a legit moment of narcissism and as a means of intimidating the heroes. She also has temples to her and her habit of having multiple titles alludes to theonyms.
* GreaterScopeVillain: She granted Angor Rot his power in exchange for his soul and used him as an assassin against Merlin's Trollhunters. She relays instructions to the Janus Order through a gramophone, and even Gunmar shuts up to listen when she is brought up in conversation. [[spoiler:It is then revealed that Morgana was the one who (indirectly) orchestrated the strife between Trolls and mankind which led to Arthur and Gunmar's war in the first place.]]
* HaveYouSeenMyGod: When [[spoiler:Gunmar escapes the Darklands]] midway through Season 2, she promptly stops communicating with the [[spoiler:Janus Order]].
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:At the very end of ''Wizards'', she proves her reformation by stripping her vile undead brother of Excalibur for the new generation of heroes and [[HeroicSacrifice sacrificed herself to end Arthur's reign of darkness once and for all]], ultimately joining Merlin in the afterlife.]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: She's ultimately defeated through the use of [[spoiler:the Shadow Staff, her own weapon which was taken from her by Claire. Claire shoves her into the shadow realm using the staff then Toby destroys it so she can never escape]].
* HumanoidAbomination: She is an incredibly powerful… something… who holds the title of "Eldritch Queen." She has power over the souls of others and can imbue them with great, nigh-unstoppable magic. When she appears at the end of Season 2, she is humanoid but her body is WreathedInFlames.
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler:In ''Wizards'', it is revealed that she turned to the dark side when Arthur launched a campaign against magic and magical creatures, seeing them as the victims and developing a misanthropic outlook towards {{Muggles}}. However, she has no qualms with Gunmar's tyrannical treatment of his fellow trolls and it was implied that once Gunmar and the Gumm-Gumms had wiped out humanity after the Eternal Night, she would have killed them afterward when they served their purpose. In other words, she claims that she fights for magic's freedom against the tyranny of prejudiced mortals, yet her FaceHeelTurn [[YouAreWhatYouHate turned her into a prejudiced tyrant herself]]. Morgana herself realizes how foolish she was when the Arcane Order resurrects her the second time]].
* IHaveManyNames: Invoked. Argante. Lady Pale. Baba Yaga. Eldritch Queen. She has many names.
* LightIsNotGood: One of her titles is Pale Lady and her true appearance seems to be a living flame. [[spoiler:Her actual truest form is a lady clad in golden armor with no aesthetically "dark" characteristics. In fact, her golden magic often contrasts with Claire's purple one]].
* MadeOfMagic: [[spoiler:Her left arm was a key ingredient in the creation of the Amulet of Daylight.]]
* MagicEater: She was able to absorb most of Merlin’s magic in the process of her imprisonment and later siphons the power of the Staff of Avalon before he could use it against her.
* MisplacedRetribution: [[spoiler:Bellroc killed Arthur ''right in front of Morgana'']], yet the latter decides to blame Merlin for [[spoiler:her brother's death]], extends her hatred of Merlin to his Trollhunters, and cover the entire world in her Eternal Night so everyone could "feel [her] agony". [[spoiler:After her resurrection from the Shadow Realm, she came to realize how ''foolish'' her blind hatred towards Merlin was and realized too late it was the Arcane Order who caused her so much pain, and eventually, an undead Arthur himself]].
* NearVillainVictory: Would've succeeded in killing the Trollhunters and her Eternal Night would've reached full strength if it weren't for [[spoiler:Angor Rot's HeelFaceTurn]].
* {{Necromancer}}: She is able to take the souls of others and was able to [[spoiler:resurrect Angor Rot]] when his eye is presented before her.
* NeverMyFault: [[spoiler:Morgana blamed Merlin for Arthur's death, which was actually done by Bellroc, the very being who granted her the title Eldritch Queen, and she even witnessed Bellroc murdering her brother firsthand. Truth be told, it was her fault for trusting the Arcane Order which would lead to her brother's death, just when he's on the brink of redemption on his part.]]
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: [[spoiler:When she resurrects Angor Rot, she returns his soul to him in the process. This leads to Jim confronting him, pointing out that he no longer has the "enslavement" excuse for all of his horrible actions, [[HeelRealization reminding him of the hero he once was]] and leading to his HeroicSacrifice.]]
* RedemptionDemotion: [[spoiler:She's much less powerful when she's brought BackFromTheDead by the Arcane Order the second time around. By that time, she does not share the Order's ideals anymore and just wants to rest forever already. This is highlighted further in her fight with Arthur, where she just [[NoSell can't hit him directly with magic]] and has to attack him physically.]]
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler:Sacrifices herself to stop the corrupted Arthur]].
* RedRightHand: Her left hand is green since we know [[spoiler:[[AnArmAndALeg her left hand]] was used to make the amulet, her hand replaced with a [[ArtificialLimbs magic construct]] as a gift of good faith from [[GreenThumb Nari]] and the Arcane Order]].
* RuleOfSymbolism: Morgana losing her left hand [[spoiler:to Arthur]] might be a reference to the generic term, the Left-Hand Path, which often refers to those who practice the dark arts, like herself. She believed more in her strength and sorcery rather than miracles, such as when Douxie and Claire tried to help her make amends with Arthur, [[spoiler:only to steer her more into darkness. After the death of Arthur, Morgana was bent on ruling the world with selfish supremacy so that everyone, humans and magics alike, could "feel [her] agony". However, at best, she truly believed that she could form her own destiny, but lost sight of how]].
** At the end, Morgana completely loses her prosthetic left hand while [[spoiler:stripping Arthur of Excalibur. This could symbolize Morgana seeing the error of her ways, just before she sacrifices herself to end her undead brother's reign once and for all.]]
* SealedEvilInACan:
** She's sealed in a massive crystal, though her mind can wander to places of sufficient power.
** [[spoiler:In the series finale, Blinky, AAARRRGGHH!!! and Toby rescue Claire from Morgana after Toby destroys the Shadow Staff, thus resulting in the witch being trapped in the shadows.]]
* SympathyForTheDevil: [[spoiler:Despite all the horrible deeds she's done, Claire and Douxie can't help but feel sorry for Morgana in the past and why she became the WickedWitch in the future.]]
* SpeakOfTheDevil: Troll lore believes that her real name "Morgana" is cursed, thus they would prefer to use her many titles, such as "The Pale Lady." It is not until Usurna says her true name multiple times that she starts hearing her voice from the record player. Morgana frequently tells people to "call to me" and that "I will return."
* StartOfDarkness: ''Wizards'' ultimately shows how Morgana became Merlin's most accomplished student to a vile sorceress bent on humanity's destruction and helping Gunmar bring for the Eternal Night.
* TakeOverTheWorld: Morgana outright tells Angor that the world will belong to her after the Eternal Night takes place, though [[spoiler:the events shown in ''Wizards'' seem to imply that she wants to rule over trollkind as a benevolent queen following her genocide on mankind]].
* ATasteOfTheirOwnMedicine: In ''Trollhunters'', Morgana resurrects Angor Rot - a troll to who she bestowed magic power - in exchange for his never-ending servitude - and more or less forces him to continue serving her against his will, leading to a HeelFaceTurn since his soul is within him again. [[spoiler:In ''Wizards'', the wizards who gave her her unimaginable power Bellroc and Skrael resurrects her from her peaceful inexistence in the Shadow Realm back into serving them, their manipulations of her and her brother Arthur causing her to betray them in-kind.]]
* TragicVillain: What Morgana is proven to be in ''Wizards'', [[spoiler:even more so than Arthur.]] She truly meant well in the beginning and helped Claire and Douxie buy time for a transformed Jim to escape from her brother. [[spoiler:Then her little brother Arthur dies, and it goes downhill from there]].
* UnwantedRevival: [[spoiler:Is ''not'' happy when Bellroc and Skrael revive her with the Amulet in ''Wizards'', since she was at peace in the Shadow Realm, begging them to return her to her rest]].
* VillainHasAPoint:
** While dueling Arthur after her FaceHeelTurn, she rightfully calls him out for outlawing and executing those related to magic (mainly trolls and wizards), [[{{Hypocrite}} yet he fights with an enchanted sword and only tolerates wizards only if they're under his watch]].
** Her frustrations towards Merlin are somewhat justified as she repeatedly calls her master out for playing the LongGame for ''too'' long, allowing Arthur to be consumed by his arrogance and prejudice. So, in context, ''Merlin'' is the reason why Arthur jaded into a prejudiced tyrant and [[spoiler:a loyal enforcer to the Arcane Order]] on his own accords. [[spoiler:Merlin came to [[JerkassRealization realize]] Morgana was right all along, but too late as it ironically costs him his life at the hands of the very same king he blindly followed]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Despite Merlin claiming in ''Trollhunters'' that she's only there because she was craving chaos, ''Wizards'' shows that Morgana truly meant well for trollkind, as she helped rescue the trolls from the dungeons in Camelot and consistently tried to stop Arthur's prejudice. This explains why she wanted to unleash the Eternal Night upon the Earth as it would've blocked out the sun so trolls can thrive, and also why she saw killing several Gumm-Gumms as a sacrifice. Additionally, even though she had Gunmar as a servant, who otherwise sees both trolls and humans as inferior, Morgana explains to Angor that she was just using Gunmar as a pawn and was going to kill him once [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness he was no longer necessary for her plans]].
* WickedWitch: In ''Trollhunters'', Morgana was clearly evil to the heroes and possessed great magic which helped Gunmar begin the Eternal Night. In ''Wizards'', however, she began as a benevolent yet paranoid sorceress before JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope.
* WouldHurtAChild: First, she possesses Claire, practically torturing her. Then she tries to force Claire to kill her boyfriend, Jim, who is 16 years old. In addition, she also holds Claire in the Shadow Realm forever and tries to kill Jim in his half-troll form. She also attacks Toby unprovoked when he tries to introduce himself to her.
* WreathedInFlames: [[spoiler:She first manifests looking like a human woman with [[GlowingEyesOfDoom glowing eyes]] and on fire]].
* YouAreWhatYouHate: Morgana despised King Arthur's prejudiced tyranny against magical creatures and wished to fight for magics. However, her JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope turned her into a prejudiced tyrant herself, only hating all of humanity in general, as well as magical creatures who fight for them. She even assassinated countless Trollhunters through Angor Rot just because of their "allegiance" with Merlin. [[spoiler:However, during her time in the Shadow Realm, she reflected on all of her actions and what she had become when she endangered not only humanity, but other magical creatures with her Eternal Night, and even treated her own "kind" as pawns, including Angor Rot and Gunmar. She realized that her own prejudice against mortals turned her into a tyrant, just like her brother.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Plans on disposing of Gunmar and probably the other Gumm-Gumms once their conquest of the surface is complete.
* YourSoulIsMine: She outright invokes this trope after she bestowed Angor Rot great magical power like he asked, unwittingly in exchange for his own soul, imprisoning it within the Inferna Copula.

-->'''Merlin''': …and don't--\\
-->'''Jim''': [[LampshadeHanging You're a real jerk, you know that]]?\\
'''Merlin''': Yes, [[JerkassHasAPoint but that doesn't make me wrong]].
* PetTheDog:

* SealedEvilInACan:
* VillainHasAPoint:
