The leader commander of Starfleet. A dedicated protector of United Equestria, his pride and confidence in his superiority over every opponent is shattered many times over the course of the Starfleet team, series, both in the Arena and outside of it.

The leader of the Starfleet team,
----
* AttackAttackAttack: The strategy he gives to his team for dealing with the crystalized Mokushiroku is to, like with all enemies they've fought, [[WebVideo/SwordArtOnlineAbridged group up, and hit it until it dies]]. This gets a nasty {{Deconstruct|edTrope}}ion in this case, as focusing on destroying him first over evacuating the citizens of Horn Kong and refusing to let Fluttershy try to calm him down leads to a lot of casualties that could have been prevented.
* BlindObedience: Like most Space Ponies, he is completely devoted to Celesto and Starfleet’s ideals, to the point of attacking the Equestrians on his team when they try using tactics that go against Starfleet protocol to stop Mokushiroku.
* BreakingOldTrends: He is the first second placer to NOT be either the main antagonist or act as an antagonistic force to the winner, though he did intend to fight Richard once he was done dealing with HADES, having sensed evil in him.
* BreaktheHaughty: From his upbringing he was raised to believe that Starfleet is all that matters and that everyone else is inferior to the Space Ponies. But when he gets beaten by HADES, he takes the loss very personally. In "Welcome To United Equestria", when the crystal core of Mokushiroku attacks Horn Kong, he seeks to use it as a way to redeem himself and forces everyone into following his strategy of attacking it, only for it to horribly backfire on him when Mokushiroku awakens and ends up being way stronger than everyone thought. By the end of the story, his sanity seems to begin falling apart.
* BoomHeadshot: His death from [[VideoGame/{{NARC}} Max Force]] shooting a bullet that goes through his visor and into his skull in "Episode 35".
* CharacterCatchphrase: He exclaims “Galloping Galaxies!” whenever he gets shocked by something.
* ADayInTheLimelight: He gets a segment focusing on his personal life in the second chapter of "Welcome To United Equestria".
* DefeatEqualsExplosion: When he loses to HADES and Mokushiroku, a massive explosion soon follows to signify his defeat.
* {{Expy}}: His [[SuperForm Enticorn form]] takes such heavy inspiration from [[WesternAnimation/Ben10AlienForce Alien X]] that [[WesternAnimation/TheAmazingWorldOfGumball Darwin]] comments on it when Lighting Dawn transforms into it to fight HADES.
--->'''Darwin:''' Oh, no! A WesternAnimation/Ben10 rip-off! [[TakeThat I knew that series was going downhill]], but this is terrifying!
* FailureHero: Even though he is the leader of Starfleet, his track record in the episodes he partakes in are dismal. While he easily destroys all of the robots he fights and puts up a good fight against HADES, he ultimately loses to him. His efforts to stop Mokushiroku results in the monster getting away, Horn Kong getting completely leveled, and most of his team getting maimed or even killed. And he gets drugged early into the 35th Arena, rendering him unable to do much before he's killed again.
* FatalFlaw: What causes his biggest failures are his arrogance and pride. Having been raised in a society that deemed every other species as inferior to them and leads the Starfleet team, it makes him believe that he can defeat anyone that tries to attack him and his people, thus lacking much strategy outside of constantly attacking. But when he loses to HADES, he takes it so personally that he hears his voice mocking him about how he's not good enough while he's training. And when the crystallized core of Mokushiroku attacks Horn Kong, he forces everyone into doing his strategy, not wanting his 'redemption' to be ruined. This just makes everything worse, as Mokushiroku ends up being much more powerful than his team anticipated and utterly thrashes them all, even killing two of them. Following this fiasco, he swears revenge on Mokushiroku and continues to train, hoping to show he's not weak and a failure.
* ForcedAddiction: He gets several syringes stabbed into him full of drugs by [[VideoGame/{{NARC}} Mr. Big's]] intern with the intent being that he would want/have to take more of it, lest he would have to deal with the horrific hallucinations caused by the fear toxins in them.
* HairTriggerTemper: When things don’t seem to be going his way or people try doing things against what he ordered, his temper gets flared up.
* HatesBeingAlone: When the fear toxin in the drugs Lightning had injected into him kick in, he begins panicking and screams and begs for Celesto not to leave him for failing him, revealing his biggest fear of not wanting to be alone.
* HeroicBSOD: He falls to his knees after Dyno and Myte are killed, unable to handle the horror of the disaster the fight with Mokushiroku has become.
* ImplausibleDeniability: When Celesto tells him to explain what happened at Horn Kong at Discord's trial, he completely lies and minimizes the severity of the damages that were caused during the fight with Mokushiroku, including how there were no maimings and that Dyno and Myte are 'just sleeping somewhere else'. Artie, ''whose hands got crushed by the creature'' and is at the trial, tries to point out his broken hands, only to get a foot stomped on by Starla to shut him up.
* JerkassToOne: While he thinks of all Equestrians as inferior to a Space Pony, he treats Pinkie Pie with the most disdain as her [[FunPersonified personality]] completely clashes with the culture of the Space Ponies as a whole.
* LethalJokeCharacter: He was chosen to participate in "Episode 15", where the theme for the contestants was {{Joke Character}}s. However, his inclusion was based more on the poor quality of the work he's from rather than how incompetent he is. As a result, he's one of the strongest and most capable contestants of the episode, easily destroying most of the threats he faces, and manages to last up until the big fight with HADES.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When he uses the Uniforce to obliterate the [[NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer Brazil flag]] and {{VideoGame/A|mongUs}}MONGUS when confronted by them, he pants in horror at what he did since he broke Grand Ruler Celesto’s rule of using it only as a FinishingMove instead of right out the gate. He’s able to quickly compose himself back since he rationalizes that he didn't use it on the BigBad he's searching for, so it's all good in his eyes.
* MyWayOrTheHighway: When attempting to deal with the crystalized core of Mokushiroku, he forces the Equestrians to follow the same old strategy of attacking it, scolding them for not wanting to follow it and even throwing Rainbow Dash into a building when she tries to rescue civilians. Even when Fluttershy's attempts of calming Mokushiroku down seems to be working and urges them to give her more time, Lightning has Rhymey brainwash her into standing down while Lightning and the other Space Ponies unleash their [[TheWorfBarrage ultimate attacks]] onto it.
* MyKungFuIsStrongerThanYours: He constantly trains himself to get stronger in the event an enemy comes to attack United Equestria, which Celesto said could happen any minute. This puts a strain on his marriage with Stella since he neglects to spend much time with her to focus on his training.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: While all the Space Ponies are responsible for the Horn Kong incident going as badly as it did, much of the blame falls on him, as he's the leader of the team. Much of it comes down to prioritizing constantly attacking the crystal core of Mokushiroku over rescuing civilians and overriding Fluttershy's attempts to calm the creature down by having Rhymey brainwash her into standing down, leading to a lot of injuries and deaths that could have been prevented.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: When HADES' Mortis Spark beam strikes where Lightning is located, nothing is left of him or the surrounding area.
* NotWorthKilling: At Discord's trial he deems that Discord shouldn't be killed since he isn't as powerful as before, and should serve 100 life sentences for the crimes he committed while under Titan's control.
* OnlySaneMan: He is the only rational member of his team in his debut episode.
* PercussiveTherapy: Following his defeat at the hands of HADES, he destroys many training dummies made to look like him during training. And following the even bigger loss he took fighting Mokushiroku, he destroys a part of the Everfree Forest while vowing revenge against Mokushiroku.
* SmugSuper: He frequently boasts about the power of Starfleet, and he (usually) has the strength to back it up.
* SurroundedByIdiots: His general feelings about the contestants that he was stuck with in "Episode 15", to the point that he complained about it to Celesto after being revived. [[JerkassHasAPoint He's not entirely wrong to have this opinion]].
* TeamKiller: When he gets confronted by his teammate AMONGUS and the Brazil flag who want to kill him, he uses the Uniforce to obliterate them both.
* ThisCannotBe: When Twilight seemingly shows up while everyone’s fighting Mokushiroku, all he can say is "You...but...you're dead..."
* TwitchyEye: While in a state of drug-fueled bliss, an eye twitches to indicate that something is wrong with him.
* WingedUnicorn: Like all Space Ponies, he has both wings and a horn.
* TheWorfBarrage: When he attempts to use the Uniforce to destroy HADES and Mokushiroku, they either do no damage or they counter it with a more powerful beam than his.
* TheWorfEffect: In his first two appearances he gets thrashed by the main villain as a way to show how powerful they are, with his defeat becoming imminent when he resorts to transforming into his Enticorn form.
* WorfHadTheFlu: He gets drugged by Mr. Big’s intern early into "Episode 35", rendering him unable to think coherently for the remainder of the episode.
* WouldHitAGirl: He throws Rainbow Dash into a building and slaps Fluttershy when they try to do something that goes against his strategy of stopping Mokushiroku. He also killed [[WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor Numbuh 3]], but that was [[CollateralDamage unintentional]].
* WrongGenreSavvy: He expects things to play out exactly as StrictlyFormula as it goes in his series, getting frustrated when things don't seem to follow the format. He also thinks that Mokushiroku can be beaten with the same strategy his team used on every other threat they faced. He gets proven VERY wrong in that regard.

* SuperMode: Has two of them: His Golden Form, and his even more powerful Black Form. He skips straight to the latter in "Episode 23" in his fight with El Hermano and [[WebAnimation/HazbinHotel Alastor]], and he stays in that form for the remainder of his matches. In "Episode 24" he uses the former to slaughter a good chunk of the remaining contestants in chapter 3 and to demonstrate how utterly outclassed everyone else is compared to him.

The galactic tyrant of the Dragon Ball universe, and is one of the most feared and powerful characters in the franchise. When he makes his appearances in the Arenas, it doesn't take long for the other contestants to know just how much of a threat he is to them, if they survive that is.

In his matches in "Episode 23", he easily decimates almost every opponent he faces, especially after he transforms into his Black Form. And in the next episode, he manages to slaughter nearly the entire remaining cast while they can't do anything to him in his Golden Form. Out of the two winners that actually managed to defeat him, Bagan and Heart, it was a clear struggle for them, and only the former actually beat him in a fair fight. The latter, even with Frieza losing access to his most powerful forms from a wish backfiring on him, had to use the elements of the environment to actually finish him off.
* InvoluntaryDance: He, along with Racheal Saleigh and Ankha are forced into a Series/{{Jackass}} stunt where they're forced to tap dance while the floor is electrocuting them in "Episode 24".

* OneWingedAngel: Once he transforms into either his Golden or Black forms, next to nobody can actually do anything to stop him.
* ParryingBullets: When [[VideoGame/CaveStory Curly Brace]] fires bullets at him after he just killed [[WesternAnimation/MyLifeAsATeenageRobot Jenny Wakeman]], he deflects the bullets with his tail and redirects them back to her, crippling her.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Despite his short stature, he is an EXTREMELY powerful being who outclasses most characters seen in the series with how strong he is.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: After Ch'rell nullifies several of his abilities before their fight begins, Frieza makes sure to let Ch'rell know he's not going to let him get away with this.
--->If you think taking away a couple of my abilities will ensure your safety, you loathsome octopus, you clearly don't know me. I am your emperor! I am Lord Frieza! And you are going to PAY for this humiliation!
** Frieza gets another one in his second match when Alastor treats their fight like another one of his shows, moments before turning into Black Frieza:
--->Remember your show? It won't even be as long as an ADVERT.
After Golden Frieza kills Mora, Jenny, and indirectly Ankha, he taunts the remaining contestants by asking them one chilling question:
--->Let's play a game everybody. Who can stand up to me before you crumble before the despair that is...Golden Frieza?
* PreMortemOneLiner: Just before he kills Guts, he delivers a BlasphemousBoast about how pointless it was to attack him with a sword:
--->A most impressive weapon…but useless against one on par with the very GODS!
* PunchCatch: During his fight with Ch’rell, as Ch’rell’s punching his face, he catches one of his fists, and crushes it into scrap.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Was chosen to participate in Episode 23 as he fit [[WorldsStrongestMan the theming]] of that episode, and he comes very close to winning it. In "Episode 24" he slaughters many of the contestants and had to receive a DramaPreservingHandicap just so anyone else can remotely stand a chance against him.
* ReturningBigBad: He comes back to be the main antagonist in "Episode 24" after being the antagonist of the last episode.
* {{Sadist}}: He thrives on making anyone who tries to fight him suffer for as long as possible before finally killing them. Best exemplified during his massacre of the cast in in "Episode 24", where he floats down and delivers a NoHoldsBarredBeatDown onto anyone who's still alive, despite clearly showing that he could easily kill them instantly.
* SayMyName: His last words in "Episode 24" are him damning Heart’s name as he’s launched into the barrier and is killed.
* SmugSuper: He is unbelievably arrogant, but has way more than enough power to back it up.
* TeamKiller: In both episodes he participates in, he kills his only remaining 'teammate' that he had left:
** In Episode 23, during the final match, he kills his brother Cooler by stomping down on his head.
** In "Episode 24", he blows up [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Mewtwo]] when she blazes through and dispels his Death Ball trying to get to and stop him.
* ThemeMusicPowerup: in Frieza's fight with Ch'rell, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZ5cO5GDXP0 His theme]] from VideoGame/DragonBallXenoverse plays as he easily deals with Ch'rell.
** Once his match with Alastor and El Hermano truly starts, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SnyXfvCCGo Maximum the Hormone's F]] plays as Frieza transforms into his Black Form and lays waste to them.
** Frieza also has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu55MoYfLGY his theme]] from VideoGame/DragonBallFighterZ plays as he quickly kills the Queen Chess Piece and Guts.
** When Golden Frieza begins his slaughter of the contestants, it's accompanied by [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz4a2WpfZ6E Frieza's theme in Dragon Ball Kai, "Only a Chilling Elegy"]].
* TokenEvilTeammate: He serves this role to his team in "Episode 24".
* TwitchyEye: When [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003 Ch'rell]] begins his match with Frieza by using his PowerNullifier abilities on him, he boasts that it demonstrates his superiority over lower lifeforms, Frieza has an eye twitch, finding it to be an insult to him.
** It happens again when he finds out that the wish he made with the mini-Dragon Balls cost him the use of his Golden and Black forms until he adjusts to his new body.
* VillainousBreakdown: When Frieza begins to lose his fights with the eventual winners, he begins to scream and rant about how he won't let them get away with this and uses any ability he can in desperation to try and kill them.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Once it comes down to just him, Blitzø, and Heart near the end of "Episode 24", Frieza knows that only one person can win the Arena and believes that Blitzø has served his purpose, so Frieza disposes of him first.

These are the characters who managed to make it all the way to second place. A notable thing about this group is this time not all of them are an antagonist or an antagonistic force to the winners of their respective episodes.
