* TheVoiceless: He cannot talk because the dogs don't speak [[AnimalTalk wild animal.]] Which is something of a contradiction of the first movie, where they were able to speak to Tiberius (a hawk).

* NobodyCallsMeChicken: Gets upset when Duke calls him Mr. Chicken.

* AnimalTalk: [[PollyWantsAMicrophone Ironically averted in his case.]] You can try to justify it by saying that parakeets do not imitate human speech, but then again, cats and dogs also do not, yet they speak between themselves.

* NearlyNormalAnimal: Unlike the other animals, he doesn't appear to talk.[[PollyWantsAMicrophone Ironic, considering he's a parrot.]]

* AdultFear: While it seems like he fears nothing, Rooster gets worried when he can't find Cotton. He is sent into panic when he finds the lamb on a tree that is about to fall off a cliff. He also gets scared when it looks like Max and Cotton will meet their doom. Luckily, Rooster is able to save both.

* JerkAssHasAPoint: While he's gruff about it, his advice he gives to Max is true. Most of the time, a kid will learn that doing something dangerous will result in them getting hurt. Said kid will not do that thing anymore in order to avoid danger. However, there are those times where a little protection is necessary to prevent the child from getting killed.

* BullyingADragon: To Duke. From the very beginning, he's prone to try and push the other dog around, despite the fact that he's literally ''bite size'' to the latter.
