* ArmchairMilitary: Was served as a staff officer for his whole career, although he claims that it was someone else's choice to pick him for it. He also shows unease about the idea of going into the field after the Punisher.

* CorruptCorporateExecutive: They all use their position and contacts to service their own interests.

* ALighterShadeOfBlack: It's a testament to what a massive pile of human garbage Rawlins is that he makes a man [[spoiler: who once threw a baby off a cliff]] look decent by comparison.
* AntiVillain: Every atrocity that he commits is never for personal profit or out of some sadistic complex, but because he is trying to protect his country. Just remember that he ''has'' committed atrocities, and they are just about the worst, most evil things possible in this series, and that is saying a ''lot''.

* BigBad: One of the few villains to play this straight. While most other examples end up being [[BoisterousWeakling tough talking weaklings]] who pose [[BigBadWannabe no real threat]] to the Punisher, Zakharov is one of the rare enemies who Frank takes seriously. It helps that unlike the vast majority of Punisher villains, Zakharov as a military man sees Frank as exactly what he is, and plans accordingly.

* {{Expy}}: He's basically The Kingpin meets Col. Kurtz.

* AxCrazy: An extremely {{sadist}}ic and {{sociopath}}ic man, his depravity and willingness to kill and/or commit atrocities for {{greed}} or [[ForTheEvulz sick kicks]] seem to know no bounds.

* ButtMonkey: Was the first to knocked out during the fight with Miller and Parker and apparently, during his very first bust Peters failed to properly tighten the cuffs on the purp. Said purp naturally took advantage and used the cuffs as a knuckduster to knock Peters out cold, and even adding insult to injury by taking his badge and taking a shit on it before escaping.
--> Miller: He looked at you and he saw a toilet.

* KilledOffscreen: [[spoiler:Frank corners him in a bathroom at Kabul International Airport and cuts off half of his right arm. The very last panel of the story is of Rawlins bleeding on the floor and ''very afraid'' of what Frank has in store for him. We're never shown or told how Frank actually finished him off, but knowing some of Frank's other kills and Rawlins being high on his list, it was no doubt a ''very'', '''VERY''' [[{{Gorn}} brutal death. Let's not forget that in the MAX continuity, Frank manages to be exceptionally brutal with particularly unpleasant villains.]]

* BadassLongcoat: Played with; although the coat he wears ''is'' badass. Himself however? Not [[DirtyCoward so much]].

* HumiliationConga: After being held captive by Zakharov, he endures a never ending series of abuses. Such as nearly getting castrated, requiring stitches on his balls, getting kneed in his balls, and etc.

* KarmicButtMonkey: It starts with an eye being gouged out, and escalates from there. He certainly deserves it, though.

* KilledOffscreen: [[spoiler:Frank corners him in a bathroom at Kabul International Airport and cuts off half of his right arm.
