One of the oldest Seers alive and the closest thing to a main character with a history centuries in the making, Eliza Cortly is a mysterious, ethereal woman in white first introduced to Michael Seer during his first death. Replete with her own HiddenDepths, Eliza is actually a mentor to Seers all across the world, saving and teaching one Seer after another in a desperate attempt to steer them away from the clutches of the Shadows' Consultant's dark rituals. She has a very storied history, having once been the wife of a chauvinistic Italian nobleman, and a partner of [[Literature/TheKindnessOfDevils Hardestadt Delac]] in the Renaissance era.

!!Vicente Galvelas

A Portuguese Seer and the student of Eliza Cortly, beginning in 1668. Later pursued by the Consultant for its sadistic tortures, Vicente is rescued by a most unusual benefactor...

* BrokenPedestal: He loved Eliza as his teacher and friend, but his faith in her is shattered by the horrors the Consultant inflicts upon him.
* TheChewToy: He's stalked by the Consultant who regularly slaughters whoever he comes into contact with, tormented, tortured mentally and physically and is left in agony and despair for years, if not decades.

* HeroicWillpower: He tries this, showcasing heroism and a burst of inspiration against the Consultant and the City Beasts. [[spoiler: It doesn't do much good.]]
