** When he addresses the Great Eight in the aftermath of Taci's death, he deflects all of the accusations regarding his string of failings in the DivineConflict before closing the discussion by lying to them by saying that Taci was tricked into destroying himself, rather than admit that he screwed up and sent Taci to get killed by the lessers. Then again, Kezess genuinely believed Taci would succeed in his task, and while he was aware of Arthur's survival and RePower, he did not expect him to suddenly intervene and kill Taci.

He deflects all of the accusations regarding his string of failings in the DivineConflict before closing DivineConflict, attempts to shift blame for Taci's death on his clan leader Ademir by accusing him of overrepresenting the boy's potential, and closes the discussion by lying to them by saying that Taci was tricked into destroying himself, rather than admit that he screwed up and sent Taci to get killed by the lessers.himself. * BirdVersusSerpent: The Asclepius Clan are opposed to both the Indrath and Vritra Clans, and their rivalry qualifies given that they are the birds to the latter clans' serpents.

Added DiffLines:

* VillainsNeverLie: PlayedWith. Despite being an UnreliableExpositor and SlaveToPR, to those who do know of his atrocities Kezess has no reason to lie to them, as long as he can prevent others who aren't supposed to be in on the truth from overhearing and if allows him to manipulate the other party.

Added DiffLines:

* AfterActionVillainAnalysis: While long extinct, the wraiths' existence and motivations are only explained by Kezess to Arthur as part him trying to justify his actions to him.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Foreshadowing}}: Their existence is first hinted at when Seris tells Caera that Agrona's SuperSoldier[=s=] derive their name from an ancient asuran legend. This is picked up later on when Kezess reveals the full truth about them to Arthur.

* UnfeelingHeavens: A big time example. Most asuras care very little for what happens outside of Epheotus in spite of their self-proclaimed desire to look out for the lives of the lessers. Especially [[spoiler:the Indrath Clan, who are willing to commit genocide for not-so-well-intentioned reasons]].

** Their rivalry with [[spoiler:the Asclepius can also be viewed this way. Though given that the Asclepius are phoenixes making them the bird, this means the Indrath become the serpent instead]].

* WhiteSheep: [[spoiler:Sylvia was the sole good member of the Indrath Clan due to her benevolent personality and opposition towards her father's genocide of the djinn. After her death, her daughter ended up following in her footsteps in being a much better person and standing up against her own clan]].

* TokenHeroicOrc: {{Downplayed}}. He is much nicer to Arthur than the other members of his clan and is proud of his performance, though it is yet to be seen if [[spoiler:he will rebel against Kezess]].

* DivineBirds: As phoenixes in the novel are a type of asura, they qualify.

* GodOfKnowledge: Qualifies given his status as the preserver of what is left of djinn culture and their aether arts.

* HealerGod: A somber variant of this trope. He and his clan are responsible for the creation of Tears of the Mother pearls, artifacts created from the cores of asuras that died in infancy that have the power to restore the lives of those about to die.

* UnseenNoMore: She was first mentioned by Veruhn in Volume 10, but did not appear until the next volume where she meets Arthur when he is in Epheotus for Avilhasha's funeral.
