When the time came for his captive appearance in the anime, while the whole "cell visit" incident was glossed over with Rimuru never personally checking on him, it's shown there in a quick scene that he was given the same horrifying transformation as his two surviving subordinates.

The military divisions run on ChallengingTheChief and AuthorityEqualsAsskicking where it's ''expected'' that if you're high-ranked, then you should be capable of beating everyone below you on the totem pole.
