* AdaptationalJerkass: To an extent. They're easygoing and affable for the most part, but compared to their classic counterparts they enjoy being monsters just a ''little'' too much in this incarnation; they're quicker to violence (and ''much'' quicker to ''extreme'' violence), they are far less loyal and more willing to stab allies or bosses in the back if they feel poorly treated... and they often relish in acting like douchebags to innocent bystanders [[TheGadfly just because they think it's funny]].

** EmpoweredBadassNormal: It's been implied in issue #71 that Kitsune, via her rituals involving purified mutagen, were meant to resurrect him as something ''much'' stronger than a mere mortal. [[spoiler: All the better for her eventual plan to use Shredder as a vessel for her father, a dragon.]]

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Hun seems to have genuinely loved his wife and her death utterly destroyed him. This also applies to Casey, but to a far lesser extent.

* AbusiveParents: Arnold would verbally and physically abuse Casey quite frequently. Ironically, it's only after becoming a supervillain that he reins this behavior in and attempts to mend his relationship with his son.

** By the events of ''Shredder in Hell,'' it's now clear that [[spoiler: Kitsune ''does'' love Shredder, and is secretly conflicted about her plan the closer it comes to completion. When it's derailed by Splinter sacrificing himself to resurrect Shredder, Kitsune doesn't rage at having her plan thwarted, but quietly apologies to Shredder before accepting his embrace.]]

** This also turns out to be the case between her and [[spoiler: Aka provides Kitsune with the means to continue her ritual, despite being implied to know that the next step involves her death. The two share a heartfelt apology before Kitsune kills Aka.]]

* IgnoredRival: She nurses a healthy grudge against Aka for the latter's interference in her attempts to control the Turtles. However, despite meddling for the sake of keeping things fair, Aka still cares for Kitsune as an older sibling does.
* LadyMacbeth: A downplayed case, as Shredder's a ruthless and independent figure who doesn't necessarily rely on her; but she can still urge him towards certain courses of action he might not otherwise entertain.

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: While strict and harsh on her, Shredder ultimately seeks to make Karai a worthy heir by encouraging her to be self-sufficient and resolute. His affection for Kitsune, warped though it is by both of them being villains, also seems legitimate.

* MoreThanMindControl: She inflicts a rather intricate form of mental manipulation as part of her magic. Known victims have included Leonardo (whom she turned into Shredder's new NumberTwo during the "City Fall" arc) and [[spoiler: Kitsune]], though both cases eventually fight it off. It's also implied she's done this to ''Shredder himself,'' to guide and direct his destructive impulses to her benefit.

A young woman who is a high ranking member of the Foot Clan.

* ColorCodedCharacters: [[spoiler:After her mutation, she adopts yellow as her bandanna color. She was also blonde in her human form.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She ran away from an abusive home and fell in with a criminal boyfriend who made her help him rob stores. She was eventually arrested and befriended imprisoned Foot soldier. The two created a plan to escape prison, only for another escaping criminal to kill her friend while they were making their getaway. Jennika eventually managed to find and join the Foot Clan herself and she later hunts down and kills her friend's murderer.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: It was only after Splinter defeated her in combat did she accept him as her new leader.
* EliteMook: Was a high ranking ninja under Shredder and was eventually promoted to Splinter's second-in-command.
* EmergencyTransformation: [[spoiler:After being fatally stabbed by Karai and Metalhead destroyed the ooze that was going to be used to heal her Leonardo is forces to give her a blood transfusion, it saves her life but also gives her turtle characteristics]].

* GoodIsNotNice: Even after becoming more kind and empathetic, she will still kill without hesitation at Splinter's command.
* HeelFaceTurn: She was originally a firm believer in the more violent and lethal methods taught to her by the Shredder until Splinter taught her the values of control and kindness.
* MightMakesRight: Strongly believed in this when she was first introduced. Splinter defeated her and worked to disabuse of this mindset.
* ParentalSubstitute: Becomes the caregiver of the orphans kidnapped by the Rat King.
* RedemptionDemotion: She originally tried to kill Splinter due to believing him too weak to lead the Foot Clan. He defeated her and demoted her for actions but was impressed by her change of heart and her dedication to the clan. He took her as his protege and eventually promoted her to his second-in-command.
* SixthRanger: [[spoiler:Joins the team after she is mutated into a giant turtle.]]
* TookALevelInKindness: Thanks to Splinter's teachings and influence.
* WolverineClaws: Wields finger claws as her primary weapon. [[spoiler:After her mutation, she switches them out for a pair of large ''tekagi-shuko'' that attach to the back of her wrist.]]

* DecompositeCharacter: This version of Shredder was born centuries ago and only recently returned from the land of the dead, so he obviously couldn't be Karai's father. That role goes to Oroku Yori, an extremely minor original character.

* {{Reincarnation}}: He is the reincarnation of Takeshi Tatsuo, the evil founder of the Foot clan who his father killed. [[spoiler:Although, due to revelations about Kitsune and her plans and abilities, [[AmbiguousSituation it's possible that this may not be the case.]]

* UndyingLoyalty: To Shredder; considering that she was once his pet falcon before her mutation, this makes sense. [[spoiler: Said loyalty doesn't necessarily extend to Karai after Shredder's death, as she refers to the former as "a spoiled rich girl." Nonetheless, she follows Karai's orders.]]

* FeatheredFiend: She's one of Shredder's more ruthless enforcers, mutated from a falcon.

* PowerGivesYouWings: [[spoiler:After Leonardo cripples her wings, she goes through intense meditation and eventually becomes able to create a new pair of wings from spiritual energy.]]
