Jens Malric rides alone on the dusty meteor trails of the galactic frontiers. All he needs are his gun, his rugged good looks, and his conviction that he's being monitored by an ever-shifting cabal of covert government organizations.

Jens deals out truth and justice the hard way. Are you an exo-planet pioneer family in trouble with a bot-rancher baron? Jens will help you even the score. But be warned: though he's a man of few words, MANY of those words concern the government secret program to spike the drinking water with mind-control cryo-serum.

On a hunting trip to New Swampington, Tark Chanlo killed the dreaded beast known as Ezhytha, the One Who Stalks, which had enslaved the small bayou town for hundreds of years.

Tark tried to ride the high by hunting more legendary beasts. He worked his way from Garzid the Great, an irradiated mechafish ravaging the sea planet of Valiantia, all the way down to Zootsie, a zub-zub that bit a few people on Krubula. Realizing he had a problem, Tark became a devoted member of Mythical Beast Hunters Anonymous.

A new unit/class introduced in the Version 1.4 update. After successfully suing Traxas Extraction MegaCorp for causing his Lethalium Syndrome, an incurable and debilitating genetic condition, Rav’n entered Traxas Tech to study interdimensional studies. He was a lab assistant when a separate department's research team summoned a Quantoid -- a being of pure telekinetic energy -- that possessed Rav'n almost immediately. Rav’n gained control of the entity… but only after he and it had destroyed all life on Traxas. He's been in Stasis Prison since. With the Imperium invasion, Prof. Zurek sees a chance to use Rav’n’s power for good.
----
* HandicappedBadass: Rav'n still suffers from Lethalium Syndrome, but his chair lets him absorb AOE attacks for the rest of the party, and control over the Quantoid allows him to attack back with various elements.

* DivergentCharacterEvolution: Gathering ranks of Intel allows the first-generation Star Renegades to gain different development paths (with the default, Rookie, just making bonding easier). Additionally, most Progeny are versions of first-gen characters with altered skill sets. In both cases, these builds are accompanied by [[AndYourRewardIsClothes different unit color schemes]] so players can tell the difference.
* HelloInsertNameHere: Although they all have default names, the player is able to rename any unit in the current party via the status menu.
* MauveShirt: Wynn is the protagonist in the Tutorial, and the first run of the game will always include her, Nodo, and Xurx. However, future runs only give them as much of a spotlight as any other Renegade, with any combination of them having the potential to succeed.
* ProtagonistTitle: "Star Renegades" refers to the playable units.
* RagtagBandOfMisfits: A revenge seeking girl with a giant mechanical sword, a vat born clone raised to be a Han Solo type scoundrel, a robot evangelist, a conspiracy theorist, a New age hippie healer, and that is just few of them.
* TheResistance: The playable units, the Star Renegades, are fighting against the overwhelming might of the Imperium, even stealing and co-opting their tech and resources when possible.

It also uses these in most of its interactions, such as displaying a PictorialSpeechBubble when in conversation, or spending its time at a campfire projecting an image of roasting marshmallows.
* PictorialSpeechBubble: The few time it participates in conversation (usually with Zurek), it uses holographic icons to communicate.
* TheSpeechless: It is completely unable to use words, though [[PictorialSpeechBubble it can still express its personality]].
* SupportingProtagonist: Represents the player, leading the team through areas, breaching past obstacles, and delivering Intel to the base at the run's end...but it's just a drone, with no voice or combat capabilities, letting the Renegades take the spotlight. [[spoiler:Even when it joins the battle party, it's as part of an EscortMission where its defeat ends the game.]]

!!!'''Basic Class:''' Valkyrie
After the death of their father Norian Syphex, Wynn and her twin brother Davion followed in his mecharmor-steps and joined the Defenders, lured by the promise of exotic worlds and unbelievable escapades. Through a rigorous coin toss process, Davion was assigned to the Adventure Squad. Wynn got a spot on the Analysis Group, which entailed monitoring the growth of wheat crops on Menku.

Wynn hopes to eventually live up to the first two traditions of her family - bravery and bad-assery - while avoiding the third: a penchant for being killed by villains.
----
* DecoyProtagonist: The events of the introduction are completely centered around her, but unlike [=J5T-1N=], her involvement after the first run is completely optional. She can even remark on "feeling like I'm not the leader" after Zurek and Geddon direct enough messages at the droid instead of her.

Nodo Kalthoris was grown in a vat by [=DynaFlesh=] Industries, destined to be the greatest super-soldier in the galaxy...until master star-thief Borovian Climax stole him for resale. Although the deal fell through, the idea of raising a super-criminal child as his own tugged at Boro's heartstrings...and his purse strings.

Boro taught Nodo the fine arts of gunplay, concentration, teleportation, bomb making, and sabotage. But Nodo shined at con-artistry, from selling fake holo-phone cards to impersonating Nebolian princes.

Everything changed when Xurx returned from a junkyard pilgrimage to find his Brothers gone. Victims of a government raid? Had he missed the rapture? Did they move without telling him? Since losing his flock, Xurx evangelizes in space-ports and sells metal handicrafts on the side of the road.
