The cast of ''Film/Red Riding Hood''.

* LadyInRed: Often wears a red hooded cloak her grandmother made for her. This gets her in a spot of bother later, as Roxanne uses her wearing red – the ‘Devil’s colour’ – as proof she’s a witch.

* LoveTriangle: She’s in a Type 4 with Henry and Peter. Valerie much prefers Peter to start with, though she considers [[MarriageOfConvenience choosing Henry due to convenience]] and because she suspects Peter could be the Wolf. [[spoiler: In the end, she picks Peter]].

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Has his moments.

* BigBadWolf: In this case, a ''werewolf'', specifically, though it's commonly referred as just 'the Wolf'. It's also the film's primary antagonist.

* AssholeVictim: Could be seen as one, given his {{Jerkass}} and KickTheDog tendencies, after [[spoiler: the Wolf bites off his hand and soldiers put him out of of his misery]].

A young woman from the village who is known for being a flirt and a friend of Valerie's.

* BitCharacter: Her only significant role in the film is dancing seductively with Peter to make Valerie jealous.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: She's beautiful with dark hair and fair skin.
* ReallyGetsAround: It's implied she's got a reputation for this around Daggerhorn; when Prudence sees her flirting with Peter she comments on how she's "found her latest conquest". She also seems to have a thing for Henry.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: When Valerie is chained up to be left as bait for the Wolf, she takes the time to tell Valerie how she always thought she was "too pretty" and "too perfect" and that she believes she deserves everything she gets.

* GirlOnGirlIsHot: Dances seductively with Valerie to make Peter jealous.
* GreenEyedMonster: She is strongly implied to be jealous of Valerie.

One of Valerie's best friends and older sister to Claude.

* AllForNothing: She betrays Valerie to Father Solomon, branding her a witch, to save her brother...[[spoiler: only to find he'd already been killed under torture]].
* BigSisterInstinct: She is willing to do anything to protect her brother when he's imprisoned by Father Solomon on the grounds of witchcraft, including offering him her body and even accusing Valerie of witchcraft.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: Out of the three friends, she's the redhead.
* EtTuBrute: Valerie confides in her that she can hear the Wolf speaking to her and that it wants her to come with it, abd she promises not to tell. However, she eventually betrays Valerie to Solomon in exchange for Claude's release.
* MustMakeAmends: She deeply regrets her betrayal of Valerie, asking Prudence to apologise to Valerie on her behalf and is one of the first people to shield Valerie from the Wolf when it corners her near the church.

Roxanne's brother, who is known for playing magic tricks. He is implied to be intellectually disabled.

* AmbiguousDisorder: He's implied to be autistic. Unfortunately, in the Middle Ages, his unusual behaviour causes him to be suspected of witchcraft and/or lycanthropy.
* BreakTheCutie: The poor kid is the one who finds Lucie's body and after the Wolf attacks, he's found cowering at the top of a building, completely traumatised. He is then wrongfully suspected of sorcery and imprisoned and tortured.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Father Solomon subjects him to this to try and get him to confess to witchcraft.
* KillTheCutie: [[spoiler: Poor Claude dies from the torture he suffered.]]
* TheVoiceless: He doesn't ever really speak (possibly due to his autism).

* AmbigiousDisorder: He's implied to be autistic. Unfortunately, in the Middle Ages, his unusual behaviour causes him to be suspected of witchcraft and/or lycanthropy.

* DirtyCoward / {{Hypocrite}}: Implied to be one. After [[spoiler: being bitten by the Wolf]] he pleads with his soldiers to [[spoiler: spare him, as he has two young children]]. The soldier responds that [[spoiler: his brother, whom Solomon had killed earlier for being bitten, also had children]].

* {{Patricide}}: [[spoiler: Ends up killing her father, with peter’s help. Justified, in that he turns out to be the Wolf and intended to forcibly make her a werewolf]].

The eldest daughter of Suzette and Cesare and older sister to Valerie. Her death at the hands of the Wolf is the catalyst for the events of the film.

* MamasBabyPapasMaybe: [[spoiler: It's revealed that her father is not Cesare, but Adrian, whom her mother had an affair with. This explains why Suzette wouldn't let her marry Henry (they're paternal half-siblings). It's also revealed to be why the Wolf killed her - Cesare tried to communicate with her in his wolf form to persuade her to become a werewolf too. When she couldn't understand him, he realised she wasn't biologically his, lost his temper and killed her]].

* TheUnfavourite: Zig zagged. Valerie was said to be the prettier of the two and the one who gets attention from the boys, and Lucie was quite upset that Valerie was betrothed to Henry instead of her. That being said [[spoiler: Cesare chose to reveal his lycanthropy and offer his 'gift' to her first, as she was the eldest]], perhaps implying some favouritism.

The main protagonist. She’s the youngest daughter of Cesare and Suzette and younger sister to Lucie, as well as the love interest to both Peter and Henry. She discovers she has a strange connection to the Wolf, making her both a target and a suspect.

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: It turns out that the Wolf's primary motivation is [[spoiler: persuading his daughter Valerie to become a werewolf and run away with him]]. It also loved [[spoiler: Lucie and his mother, though this didn't stop him from killing them both, either out of anger or to keep his secret]]. [[LoveMakesYouEvil This same love also underscores some its more malevolent actions]].

* AWolfInSheepsClothing: A near literal example. The Wolf is one of the villagers of Daggerhorn, pretending to be an ordinary citizen. It's [[TheReveal revealed]] to be [[spoiler: Cezaire Valerie's drunk and bumbling, but loving and seemingly harmless father]].

Wife to Cesare and mother of Lucie and Valerie.

* ArrangedMarriage: Had one with Cesare. She states it became a PerfectlyArrangedMarriage [[spoiler: but considering that she cheated on her husband and how the events of the film pan out, this is likely subverted]].
* CartwrightCurse: [[spoiler: By the end, her lover has been killed by the Wolf and her husband disappears, seemingly killed by the Wolf too. Little does she know, Cesare was the Wolf all along and was killed by their daughter in self-defense]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: She tries to force Valerie to marry a man she doesn't love for money and security and tells her to just put up with it, as she may eventually come to love her husband as she did. [[spoiler: It's then revealed that Suzette cheated on Cesare in the first few years of the marriage and passed her eldest child off as her husband's]].

* TheOneThatGotAway: Tells Valerie that when she was younger, she was in love with someone else before her parents made her marry Cesare, but that she was eventually HappilyMarried to her husband. [[spoiler: Or not, seeing as she had an affair with the man she really loved. This come back to bite her in the ass eventually]].

* YourCheatingHeart: It turns out that [[spoiler: she cheated on Cesare with Adrian, whom she was actually in love with, and that he's Lucie's real father.]] This comes back to haunt her eventually...

Valerie’s eccentric Grandmother and Cesare’s mother, who lives in a cottage on the edge of the village. Along with Peter, she’s a prime suspect to be the Wolf.

* AloneWithThePsycho: In the film's climax, she ends alone with the Wolf. [[spoiler: Subverted, in that the Wolf doesn't want to kill. He wants her to join him]].

* NeverFoundTheBody: [[spoiler: Valerie and Peter invoke this after him, weighing his body down with rocks and dumping it in the river so Valerie won't be persecuted for having a werewolf dad]].

* TooDumbToLive: As stated by the characters, her going out into the fields on the night of a full moon was a very bad idea and they don't why on earth she would've done it. [[spoiler: It turns out [[LoveMakesYou Dumb she'd gone out to meet Henry]], having supposedly received a note from him asking to see her]].

A witch hunter general and famed monster hunter, who is tasked with finding and disposing of the Wolf.

* AssholeVictim: Could be seen as one, given his {{Jerkass}} and KickTheDog tendencies, after [[spoiler: the Wolf bites off his hand and soldiers put him out of of his misery]].
* DirtyCoward / {{Hypocrite}}: Implied to be one. After [[spoiler: being bitten by the Wolf]] he pleads with his soldiers to [[spoiler: spare him, as he has two young children]]. The soldier responds that [[spoiler: his brother, whom Solomon had killed earlier for being bitten, also had children]].
* FreudianExcuse: His own wife turned out be a werewolf, which he found out when he mortally injured her protecting himself from her. Afterwards, he vowed to dedicate his life to hunting down the supernatural.
* KickTheDog: Has a few moments:
** He humours Roxanne when she comes to plead for her brother to be released, including letting her strip off to offer her body to him, before dismissing her, clearly amused by her actions in spite of her obvious distress and humiliation.
** When he uses Valerie as bait to lure the Wolf, he makes a point of forcing her to wear a wolf mask and parading her through the village to shame her as a supposed witch.
* KnightTemplar / HeWhoFightsMonsters: Steps into this as the film progresses, starting with torturing Roxanne's intellectually disabled brother as a 'witch' for doing card tricks, using Valerie as bait for the Wolf and killing [[spoiler: Father Auguste]] for trying to intervene.
* LargeHam: Easily the hammiest character in the film.
* ShootTheDog: He kills one of his men after they are bitten by the Wolf, as "a man bitten is a man cursed". [[spoiler: He himself is later on the receiving end of this]].
* TragicKeepsake: A rather grisly example. He keeps his wife's hand, complete with her wedding ring, in a box, which he cut off whilst she was attacking him in her wolf form.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He just wants to rid the word of evil. Even if that includes hurting or killing a few innocent people if they get in the way and acting like a tyrannical {{Jerkass}}.

* BeneathTheMask: On the surface, he's a bumbling drunk, yet also a loving family man. [[spoiler: He's actually the Wolf]].

* ArrangedMarriage: Had with with Cesare. She states it became a PerfectlyArrangedMarriage [[spoiler: but considering she cheated and how the events of the film pan out, this is likely subverted]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: She tries to force Valerie to marry a man she doesn't love for money and security and tells her to just put up with, as she may eventually come to love her husband as she did. * ParentsAsPeople: He's a somewhat [[ParentalNeglect neglectful]] and [[ParentalObliviousness oblivious]] dad, but deeply loves his two children. [[spoiler: Which is why he wants them to become werewolves too]].

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: It turns out that the Wolf's primary motivation is [[spoiler: persuading his daughter Valerie to become a werewolf and run away with him]]. All Girls Want Bad Boys: Is more attracted to rebellious outcast Peter than the wholesome and sensible Henry.
Arranged Marriage: At the beginning of the story, she is betrothed to Henry, due him being wealthy. She is unhappy about this for various reasons, not least because she’s actually in love with her childhood friend Peter, and only reluctantly goes along with it. They eventually break it off after Henry realises she prefers Peter.
Beast and Beauty: With Wolf!Peter in the end.
Beauty Equals Goodness: Played straight. She’s the most beautiful girl in the village and is also sweet and kind.
Berserk Button: Downplayed, but she hits a man making fun of her drunken father with a piece of wood.
Birds of a Feather: With Peter. They both feel like outcasts who want to leave Daggerhorn and see what else life can offer.
Childhood Friend Romance: With Peter.
Dating What Daddy Hates: Her parents (more so her mother) don’t approve of her relationship with Henry).
Distressed Damsel: When Father Solomon ties her up to be bait for the Wolf.
Hair of Gold Heart of Gold: Payed straight.
Innocent Blue Eyes: Has large, beautiful blue eyes (courtesy of Amanda Seyfried). Notably, she’s one of the only characters in the film who has blue eyes, making them stand out even more.
Interspecies Romance: With Peter in the end, after he becomes a werewolf.
I Will Wait For You: Promises to wait for Peter to return to her after he leaves to get his wolf side under control. The end sees them happily reunited.

A poor woodcutter and Valerie’s childhood friend, as well as one of her love interests and a prime candidate to be the Wolf.
An Ax To Grind: His Weapon of Choice, seeing as he’s a woodcutter.
Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Henry’s Betty for Valerie. She picks him.
Big Damn Heroes: Bursts into Grandmother’s cottage to save Valerie just as the Wolf is about to attack her.
Birds of a Feather: With Valerie. They both feel like outcasts who want to leave Daggerhorn and see what else life can offer.
Brooding Boy Gentle Girl: Has a bit of this with Valerie.
Childhood Friend Romance: With Valerie. He eventually becomes a Victorious Childhood Friend.
Enemy Mine: Teams up with his romantic rival Henry to save Valerie.
Hotter and Sexier: In comparison to his fairytale counterpart, who is usually depicted as an older man and father figure to Red Riding Hood (and in some versions her actual father). Here, the woodcutter’s Red Riding Hood’s sexy bad boy love interest (and possibly the Wolf).
Interspecies Romance: With Valerie after he becomes a werewolf.
Irony: Valerie and some of the other characters spend a good chunk of the film wondering if he’s the Wolf. It turns out he isn’t, though after being bitten by the real Wolf under a blood moon, he becomes a werewolf anyway.
I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Averted. When Valerie rejects him, he flirts and dances with other girls to make her jealous and confronts her about her rejection. He does state that Valerie would be better off with Henry, but clearly begrudges this and has no protests when Valerie seduces him moments later, telling him that he is the one she wants.
Jerk With A Heart Of Gold: Has his moments.
Love Martyr: A downplayed example, but he still comes to save Valerie even after she stabs him, mistakenly believing him to be the Wolf. To her credit, Valerie acknowledges this and is moved he still loves.
Meaningful Name: His name is possibly a Shout Out to Peter and the Wolf.
Rebellious Spirit: He’s something of an anti-social outcast, who doesn’t care what the villagers think of him and defies Valerie’s parents to hang out with their daughter.
Tall Dark and Handsome: Played straight.
Henry Lazar
The son and apprentice of blacksmith Adrian Lazar and one of Valerie’s love interests. They’re betrothed, although Valerie isn’t all that happy about it.
All Love Is Unrequited: He did not reciprocate Lucie’s love. His love interest Valerie also doesn’t reciprocate his feelings.
Arranged Marriage: He’s betrothed to Valerie. For him, it’s a Perfectly Arranged Marriage as he is in love with Valerie, though she’s not as keen. He breaks it off after realising she prefers Peter.
Betty and Veronica: The Betty to Peter’s Veronica for Valerie.
Berserk Button: When Peter implies he is to blame for his father’s death.
The Blacksmith: He is training as a blacksmith under his father and will inherit his business someday. This comes in handy when Valerie is used as bait by Father Solomon, as Henry is able to make lock picks to undo her chains.
Disposable Fiance: Zig zagged and eventually played straight with Valerie.
Enemy Mine: Teams up with his romantic rival Peter to save Valerie.
Heartbroken Badass: By the film’s end, due to his father dying and his love interest rejecting him.
Hopeless Suitor: To Valerie. She does consider choosing him, but ultimately only ever loved Peter.
I Want My Beloved to be Happy: After realising Valerie is in love with Peter, he willingly breaks off their engagement so they can be together.
Missing Mom: His mother is implied to have been dead for a while.
Nice Guy: He’s compassionate and sensible. Unfortunately, this doesn’t help him win over Valerie and bites him in the ass when he’s unable to protect his father from the Wolf.
Took a Level in Badass: By the end of the film. In addition to finding the courage to stand up for himself and fight the Wolf, in the end he leaves to become a monster hunter.
