* FishOutOfWater: His clothes from Earth don't go unnoticed.
* FlippingTheBird: Gives his middle finger to Kem when the latter chases him away from behind his bar and asks the money for the drink he [Adam] stole. Kem likely doesn't understand the gesture, not being from Earth.

* NiceHat: His UsefulNotes/{{Detroit}} Tigers baseball cap. Seg mistakes the "D" for a guild emblem. He reluctantly trades it away on Kem's advice so they can investigate a meteor impact outside the dome, complaining that the Kryptonian he traded it to isn't even a fan.

* ArchEnemy: To Superman, to the point where he goes back in time to destroy his world and prevent his birth. [[spoiler: Except, as it turns out, he never went back in time; his arrival was part of history all along.]]

* CityInABottle: The first live-action appearance of his city-stealing gimmick. A shrunken city is visible on his ship in one of the first trailers.
* CompositeCharacter: Visually, he's very much based on his post-2008 incarnation (including in the design of his equipment), but apparently he's supposed to be an android like the pre-Crisis incarnation.
* TheCollector: Collects shrunken cities.
* EnemyMine: In the Season Two premiere, he tries to team up with Seg, reasoning that they're both injured and need each other's help. Seg points out that Brainiac would try to kill him as soon as it became convenient, a fact Brainiac doesn't deny, and so decides to just skip the pretense and beats Brainac's body into pulp using a stick. [[spoiler: Unfortunately for Seg, Brainiac survives by putting his mind into Seg's body.]]
* EvilOldFolks: He looks and sounds like an older version of the post-2008 version. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WxikiYSnc0 Johns even notes]] that it was important that he appear "ancient".
* EvilSoundsRaspy: His voice is ''very'' raspy and weathered, fitting his incredible age.
* FateWorseThanDeath: He claims that the inhabitants of each city he collects would live forever. That is technically true, however, his idea of eternal life in one of his "bottles" is pretty horrific. Everyone trapped inside is kept in a living stasis, unable to move, never aging, never dying, but trapped in the moment when time froze for them, stuck in place for all eternity...[[AndIMustScream while still completely conscious and fully aware of their surroundings]].
* MakeWrongWhatOnceWentRight: He's come back in time to destroy Krypton and avert Superman's birth. [[spoiler: In fact, Adam Strange is wrong about this. * OutsideContextProblem: The society of Krypton puts a strict ban on even teaching the possibility that other life exists in the universe. Naturally, they are completely caught off guard when he finally arrives, especially because even for all its advanced technology, Krypton is in the Stone Age compared to the technology Brainiac possesses.
* RoboticPsychopath: An advanced android who destroys planets.
* SatanicArchetype: Fits the role as a harbinger of destruction who is obsessed with having everything under his rule by keeping worlds in bottled containers, essentially creating a "hell" for countless worlds. He also fits in with the Revelations take on Satan: a powerful entity whose arrival brings out the end of a planet's days and is obsessed with ruling his own private collection.

* GutturalGrowler: His voice is usually rather soft and high-pitched, which has never been the case for Lobo before, but it drops into the more familiar growl when he gets especially angry.
* HandCannon: His blaster handgun is ''huge'', yet he's human-sized and uses it with one hand.
* HealingFactor: Getting a basketball-sized hole blown through his torso is a mere inconvenience, as it takes him only a few minutes to regenerate. In the following episode, he shoots his own head off so his body will regenerate from a severed arm on the other side of a forcefield.

!!''Doomsday (formerly Dax-Baron)''
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doomsdaykrypton_3.jpg]]
!!! '''Species:''' Mutated Kryptonian
!!! '''Played By:''' Staz Nair (original form)

Doomsday is a monster (or rather, a living weapon of mass destruction) that was created a thousands cycles before the series' present-day as a result of deeply unethical and painful experiments performed by scientists from both the House of El and the House of Zod on a male Kryptonian, Dax-Baron. They initially did so in order to protect Krypton, but then the need faded away and the monster was put into cryostasis due to how extremely dangerous and invulnerable he was. Dru-Zod was convinced Doomsday was the only thing that could stop Brainiac and sought to release him from his prison.
----
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Dru-Zod uses a combination of Black Mercy toxin and somatic reconditioning to make him into a loyal tool.]]
* EvilVersusEvil: General Dru-Zod wants to use Doomsday to defeat Brainiac and save the planet, but when Adam Strange reveals that he would kill everyone he finds, Seg convinces Dru-Zod not to use him (or so he thinks).
* HumanPopsicle: Was kept frozen for hundred of years.
* LivingWeapon: Created by the Houses of El and Zod for the purpose of protecting Krypton. Suffice it to say it didn't quite work out that way.
* OmnicidalManiac: It is stated that, if released from stasis, he would kill every living thing on Krypton. After all, he is ''[[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Doomsday]]''.
* NighInvulnerable: His skin soaks up blaster fire with barely a reaction.
* SealedEvilInACan: Let's just say there was a reason Houses El and Zod sealed up their creation instead of using him. He eventually escapes from his containment in the Season 1 finale.
* WasOnceAMan: He was once a Kryptonian soldier named Dax-Baron. He had a unique genetic trait that the Houses of El and Zod exploited to turn him into a living weapon.

!!! '''Species:''' Kryptonian
!!! '''Played By:''' Blake Ritson

-->''"May Rao's light forever guide your way."''

The deified supreme authority and central religious figure presiding over the High Council of Kandor.
----
* BiblicalMotifs: The gold writing on his robe is Malachi 3 from the Geneva [[Literature/TheBible Bible]], with slight modifications ("Krypton" instead of "Judah" and "Jerusalem") written in Kryptonian script.
* CorruptChurch: He's the central religious figure in Kandor, and its ''de facto'' ruler who maintains a class inequality on purpose. He has no trouble asking for a [[TheScapegoat scapegoat]] for his PR campaign to keep the Rankless quiet as he knows their discontent could turn into outright revolt against his rule.
* CreepyMonotone: He always speaks in the same tone, which makes him kind of creepy. He screams in agony as Brainiac's sentry infects him however.
* TheDreaded: Even Daron is wary of displeasing him.
* TheFaceless: He never takes off his mask, at least when anyone is around. He finally does after being infected by Brainiac.
* GodGuise:
** Seemingly a part of his power rests in that he controls the polarization of Kandor's dome.
** A far more direct and impressive one happens after being infected by Brainiac and seemingly turning into the avatar of the Sun in front of a crowd.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: He wears a white robe with sacred Kryptonian writings, has a quasi-divine status (Rao is the red sun and TopGod for Kryptonians) and his mask representing the faces of Krypton's gods is gilded.
* GoldMakesEverythingShiny: His gilded mask surely shines.
* HighPriest: He presides over public ceremonies to Rao.
* HiddenDepths: Before being assimilated by Brainiac, he’s seen holding and staring at the offering Ona gave him, implying that he was genuinely touched by it.
* IgnoranceIsBliss: Seems to maintain his power by keeping Kryptonians ignorant about other forms of life and civilizations in the universe.
* MalevolentMaskedMan: He wears an elaborate golden mask depicting the faces of Krypton's gods and maintains a form of scientific MedievalStasis by forbidding Kryptonians to research about other worlds and other forms of intelligent life in the universe. It's safe to say Krypton's society, and particularly the Rankless, is ''far'' from being enlightened and happy under his "guidance". Then he is turned into a Brainiac sentry...
* MouthOfSauron: After he is made one of Brainiac's Sentries. Compared to Rhom, who was taken over to gather information, it's his job to subdue the populace for Brainiac's eventual collection.
* MythologyGag: When possessed by Brainiac, he begins to resemble the likewise possessed Milton Fine Brainiac from the comic, as a goateed, mutating man turning green with a growing cranium.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: After being stabbed in the neck with the sunstone key by Nyssa-Vex, his body disintegrates.
* ObstructiveZealot: He's a religious authority figure who holds dominant sway over Krypton's society, religion and government.
* PetTheDog: He seems genuinely impressed with Ona's faith, and is interested in the Rao statuette she gives him. Unfortunately, this leads to his downfall, as the statuette had been infected by Brainiac, and it jumps to him.
* PhotoOpWithTheDog: His on-the-spot invitation and then presentation of Ona, a Rankless child, as a new acolyte before an awestruck crowd of Rankless. The acolytes accompanying him don't appear to be very happy about it.
* PuppeteerParasite: He's infected by Brainiac's Sentry at the end of "Word of Rao".
* VoiceOfTheLegion: After he is transformed into a Sentry.

Black Zero is a clandestine organization that seeks to overthrow the Voice of Rao.
----
* TheScapegoat: They do exist as a serious threat to Krypton's rulers, but fingers are conveniently pointed at them to throw people off-trail, such as Charys-El and Ter-El declaring themselves Black Zero members to protect Seg while they're on trial or Daron-Vex [[BlatantLies poorly justifying]] his intent to search for Val-El's Fortress of Solitude to Jayna-Zod by saying it contains weapons Black Zero could use. Sentry!Rhom's rampage is also blamed on them (due to a lack of information), although Seg informs Lyta-Zod soon enough about it. Then Daron-Vex plans to frame them for an attack he prepares on the Voice of Rao.
* SuicideAttack: A Black Zero member infiltrated the High Council's room with a bomb hidden in his arm. He tried to detonate it on the Voice of Rao, but Seg prevented him from doing so, since his father was in the room and would have been killed as well.

[[spoiler:She also appears to want to help Val-El get Seg back from the Phantom Zone]]. The comic book version of Jax-Ur is a MadScientist and the worst mass murderer in the Phantom Zone.
* AntiVillain
* DefectorFromDecadence: She used to be a member of the council alongside Daron-Vex, but fled when he had Val-El killed, fearing she would be next.
* EyeScream: [[spoiler:In Season Two, Jax-Ur's right eye is replaced with a robotic one that shoots lasers.]]
* GenderFlip: The normally male Jax-Ur is played by the very much female Hannah Waddingham here.
* ProperlyParanoid: Her work on the Genesis Chamber made it sustainable for the foreseeable future, but she also knew that in the wrong hands her methods could be used to further the divide between the Rankless and the Guilded by separating the bloodlines. Sure enough, Daron-Vex did exactly that as soon as he got his hands on her work.
* ThatManIsDead: When Daron calls her "Sela-Sonn" she tells him "My name is Jax-Ur now."
* TortureTechnician: She implants Daron-Vex with a device that causes intense pain at the push of a button, even over vast distances.
* UncertainDoom: After being expelled from the Resistance by Val-El, she's last seen wandering alone in Wegthor's tunnels. It's unknown if she perished with the moon's destruction, or escaped with the others or escaped another way.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: She considered Daron-Vex to be one of her closest friends. However, considering that he tried and executed her mentor Val-El and corrupted her work on the Genesis Chamber to achieve a form of immortality for the Ranked, one might assume that friendship is pretty much dead by now.
* YourTerroristsAreOurFreedomFighters: Black Zero ''has'' resorted to terrorist acts--such as an attempted suicide bombing that would kill innocents just to assassinate the Voice of Rao--but their end goal is to establish true equality on Krypton, free of the caste-based society currently in place.

The chief magistrate leader of Kandor, charged with defending Krypton's oligarchy.Black Zero.

* BadLiar:
** Claims he wants to find Val-El's Fortress of Solitude so the terrorists of Black Zero won't find potential weapons to Jayna-Zod. She doesn't buy it.
** Brainiac seems insulted by how bad his alibi for the coup attempt is.
* DirtyCoward: If he wasn't always already one all along, he definitively sinks himself into that abyss when he tries to kill his own daughter to save his own neck.
* FreudianExcuse: Along with his RagsToRiches background, according to his own telling, he came from a family of Cythonnites (worshippers of Cythonna, instead of Rao) and were victims in the religious purges decades past. Hence, supposedly why he's an ambitious, scheming (and secretly atheistic) social and political climber one moment, and a simpering sycophant the next.
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: [[spoiler: In the Season Two premiere, he's been reduced to scraping out a living as a laborer on Wegthor, far from the powerful position he once held.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: He admits to Jayna-Zod that he's primarily self-motivated, but insists that he still offers a better future for Krypton than the Voice of Rao, who has no interest in anything other than maintaining the status quo.
* TheJudge: Pronounces the sentences for whoever commits major crimes against the Kryptonian society (according to the High Council anyway).
* KilledMidSentence: [[spoiler: He gets shot in the head by Lyta before he can reveal the truth to Nyssa. Lyta believes he was going to lie to her again.]]
* NumberTwo: The main pawn of the Voice of Rao.
* OffingTheOffspring: Once he allies with Brainiac, he reluctantly tries to execute his own daughter personally rather than subject her to a public execution. She expected he might try this and tricked him into shooting a hologram.
* PetTheDog: He decides to reintegrate Seg into Krypton's guilds, albeit by making him a Vex and a TrophyHusband for his daughter, and he only does so to prove that the House of El can be "tamed." Seg ultimately rejects this offer, much to Daron's dismay.
* TheQuisling: Once Brainiac foils his coup, Daron is quick to pledge himself to Brainiac, rationalizing that life as his underling is better than death against an implacable foe.
* RagsToRiches: According to Jayna-Zod, he married into the House of Vex and quickly set about turning it into one of the most important houses in Kandor.
* SmugSnake: A self-admitted "selfish bastard" with numerous schemes and plots, but one who clearly lacks the patience and the discipline to adapt to your everyday SpannerInTheWorks and suffering from some degree of EvilCannotComprehendGood. It especially contrasts with his more skilled and moral daughter.
* TheStarscream: He's plotting a coup to take power from the Voice of Rao.
* UncertainDoom: He tries to flee Kandor in a skimmer after losing everything, but Jax-Ur triggers a torture device in his neck that causes him to crash. It's not clear if he survived the crash or found shelter if he did. [[spoiler: He is shown to have survived in Season Two, scraping by in his old hometown, [[BackForTheDead until Lyta shoots his head off]].]]
* VillainRespect: He condemned Val-El to death, helping the Voice of Rao to maintain his power over Kryptonian society, but still admired him as he was undoubtedly Krypton's greatest scientist.
* VisionaryVillain: He wants to take over so he can broker alliances with the other cities on Krypton, ultimately allowing Kryptonian society to advance beyond the stasis it's currently in.

* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: He pulls absolutely no punch in the [[DuelToTheDeath Kandorian duel]] against Lyta-Zod.
* PoliceBrutality: He embodies this in his squad, having no problem brutalizing or killing Rankless people. Which is why Lyta challenges his authority.
* WouldHitAGirl: Justified whe he fights Lyta, as she's a Sagitari like him (there's no gender discrimination in their ranks) and asked for a duel to the death against him.

A Sagitari who has troubles abiding by the new rules Lyta-Zod enforced regarding violence against the Rankless.

* CowboyCop: She flatly ignores Lyta's orders not to indiscriminatingly use violence against the Rankless.
* RabidCop: She has troubles adjusting to Lyta's orders to treat the Rankless with minimal brutality. During the Rankless Initiative, she goes as far as killing an unarmed and shackled prisoner out of fear of being attacked in addition to considering him as a Black Zero sympathizer without any solid proof, which puts her under arrest by Lyta.

* GodGuise:
* WouldHurtAChild: As Brainiac's sentry, he turns Ona into a living bomb so she'll kill Seg and his friends.

* YourTerroristsAreOurFreedomFighters: To the reigning order in Kandor, they are clearly terrorists. Meanwhile, they consider themselves as LaResistance against said oppressive order.

The leader of Black Zero.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: This version of Jax-Ur is a former healer who fights for equality on Krypton (even though she seems to have no problem with using terrorism as a means to get it) and she aids Seg-El in trying to stop Brainiac. [[spoiler:She also appears to want to help Val-El get Seg back from the Phantom Zone]]. The comic book version of Jax-Ur is a MadScientist and the worst mass murderer in the Phantom Zone.
* AntiVillain

* FightingFromTheInside: Seg [[IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight pushes her to regain her will]] against the Sentry when she's about to strangle him with cables-turned-tentacles, and this is enough to release Seg from the cable and allow him to activate the EMP grenade.

* TheCollector: Collects shrunken cities.
Brainiac was always meant to steal Kandor, which in turn caused the destabilization of Krypton and eventually led to Kal-El being sent to Earth.]]
* SuperIntelligence: Standard for Brainiac, and he likes gloating about it.

* GenreRefugee: ''Krypton'' is a pretty serious sci-fi show overall. Enter Lobo, ''THE'' BloodyHilarious AmusingAlien, in Season 2.
* HooksAndCrooks: As in the comics, he uses a chain with a hook.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: He always has them and is most definitely ''not'' someone to be underestimated.
* SkeletonsInTheCoatCloset: He has a skull ornament on his crotch.
