* WhatYouAreInTheDark: In #26 [[spoiler: he's given the chance to literally shoot Kouta in the back without anyone knowing (except Kaito). He does so.]]

** [[spoiler: In #29, Micchy's plan to kill Kouta hinges on Kouta being an AllLovingHero who would be willing to die to keep a fragile alliance and tries to use that to kill him. This plan falls apart because he forgets to figure in that Kouta has a sense of self-preservation unlike most {{All Loving Hero}}es and will use violence for self-defense.]]

* {{Yandere}}: Very slowly being revealed to be a major one towards Kouta and Mai. He's obsessed with "protecting" them, even if it means lying, manipulation, and working with the more villainous members of Yggdrasil.

* AxCrazy: By the time the Helheim Saga rolls around Micchy has become a high-functioning version of this trope.

* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: In #18, he states, word for word, that he would betray anyone or anything to keep the joy he was feeling.

* BrokenMasquerade: This becomes her new goal when she learns the truth.

* FanGirl: Of Bravo of all people, to Kouta's anger.

* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: [[spoiler:{{Deconstructed}}. She slapped Mitsuzane, hoping she'd get through to him and snap him out of his obsessive phase... But much like how slapping an emotionally distraught person in real life works, this only served to make him even ''worse''.]]

* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Mitsuzane is dead-set against telling Mai that Yuya's dead, preferring her to be happy and ignorant; and he's convinced Kouta to keep from telling her as well. [[spoiler:She finally finds out in #26.]]

* MoralityPet: Is becoming this to Kaito, who tends to show his softer side, explains his more sympathetic motives, or performs a good deed after talking to her.

* [[spoiler:NiceJobBreakingItHero: She called Micchy out on his behavior and for not respecting Kouta's point of views in battle, and slaps him. This is the final straw for Micchy and leads him to go fully evil.]]
* OnlySaneWoman: Takes up the mantle as Kouta becomes DrunkWithPower. Well, unless Oren is involved.

* WhatTheHellHero: After she continues to fangirl over Bravo after he becomes a full time villain, both Kouta and Mitsuzane call her out on her stupidity.

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: See GetAHoldOfYourselfMan above, especially since she never knew about [[spoiler: Michhy's manipulative nature. Plus, his remorse towards Kouta was recent. This also led into the endgame, Micchy's attempt at Kouta's life led to him showing Takatora the Overlords and led to his inevitable backstabbing/Sid's betrayal. In short, one slap caused the endgame.]]

* GunboatDiplomacy[=/=]AppealToForce: His plan to deal with the Overlords is to become more powerful than them and then force them to do what he wants. It sadly sounds more rational than Kouta's plan given the [[PsychopathicManchild Overlords]] [[ForTheEvulz overall]] [[BloodKnight behavior]] [[spoiler:(until Roshuo's introduction, that is).

* AmbiguouslyEvil: [[spoiler:Though he fights against Helheim, he does not care one bit about protecting innocent people, in fact claiming that the weak deserve death.]]

** BadassCape: In Mango Arms and Lemon Energy Arms.

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Kaito's moral system is very hard to comprehend transcending mere Social Darwinism leading to him entering this trope at times.

* FairPlayVillain: Kaito despises underhanded methods going out of his way to make fights and duels to be as honorable as possible so people can show their true strength, [[spoiler: this ties into him opposing Yggdrasill, they want to wipe out six billion humans to save the race while he wants the Helheim Invasion to occur unopposed so each individual human can show their own strength and worth.]]

* GunboatDiplomacy[=/=]AppealToForce: His plan to deal with the Overlords is to become more powerful than them and then force them to do what he wants. It sadly sounds more rational than Kouta's plan given the [[PsychopathicManchild Overlords]] [[ForTheEvulz overall]] [[BloodKnight behavior]].

** We see the most of it in #31 and boy is Kaito a far different man than how he acts [[spoiler: he believes that the only thing strong people can do is destroy and that he ''himself'' is weak and that weak people can only struggle to oppose the strong.]]
* HiddenHeartOfGold: He may make a big show of being a cold-blooded SocialDarwinist, but when the chips are down, he either fails to follow through on it or conveniently reinterprets his philosophy so that it'll allow him to do the right thing. See also, basically every time he bails out Kouta.

** Kaito is the classic shonen rival character but he is a MagneticHero which is a trope that an AllLovingHero type protagonist like Kouta is supposed to get but doesn't have.

** JerkassRealization[=/=]NotSoDifferent: He has this when he hears [[spoiler:Deemushu ranting about how the strong overcomes the weak in a manner not unlike his own talks of strength and power]].

* MagneticHero: Kaito has shonen hero level of charisma about him best shown when he got all of the good and nuetral aligned Riders to team up against Deemushu without really trying.

** In a way, Kouta is often this to him, as working with him normally brings out the best in Kaito.

** [[spoiler:He is hardly a hero now. He seems fine with the idea of working with Yggdrasill for unrivaled power, even if his city has to burn.]]

** In #27, [[spoiler:he is pissed when he witnesses Micchy shoot Kouta in the back and knock him unconscious. As Micchy draws in the finish the job, Kaito attacks him and defends Kouta. Afterwards, he hides the still-unconscious Kouta in a tree and covers him with leaved branches to protect him from Inves. It's pretty shockingly nice of him to go so far.]]
** Continuing into #28 [[spoiler: Kaito figures out Micchy's next attempt to murder Kouta so he secretly shadows him during a delivery to protect him.]]

* WillNotTellALie: Kaito never lies and despite not shouting his ideals to the world will flat out tells someone what he's planning to do if they ask.

* HopeBringer: Both Takatora and DJ Sagara see him as this and he's far better at it than Haruto.

* OnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: [[spoiler: Only ''he'' has the right to kill Kouta. No one else!]]

* {{Irony}}: Despite seeking absolute power, Kaito is one of the few characters ''not'' to have become DrunkWithPower at some point.

* EvilSoundsDeep: Mahiro Takasugi confirmed in [[http://tokusatsunetwork.com/2014/06/18/hyper-hobby-interviews-mahiro-takasugi/ an interview that]], knowing his character was going down a bad route, lowered Micchy's tone of voice as the show went on to reflect the character development.

* ProtagonistPowerupPrivileges: He has up to four[[note: But one of them's with Kaito.]] regular lockseeds compared to other's two [[note:Not counting Kaito's Suika Lockseed]] or one and is the only one to not only able to combine three engery lockseeds to his Orange's, but also use two special kinds of lock seeds!

* ThouShallNotKill: He ascribes to this trope wholeheartedly... Too bad his hands are covered in blood due to him killing countless Inves who were once sentient beings on top of killing Yuya.

Micchy gives up his loyalty towards Kouta due to his own frustration and jealousy, to the point that he's now secretly trying to murder his former friend. Micchy still wants to protect Mai, but [[PoisonousFriend tries to do so in ways that she would never approve of that ignores her thoughts and feelings.]]]]

* WellIntentionedExtremist: Joins his brother as one in Yggdrasill. [[At first, anyway. He eventually stops caring about anything but what he selfishly wants, though.]]

** [[spoiler:By #26, his loyalty to both is dead: he sees Kouta as a threat and even though he still likes Mai, he sure won't put her desires above his own.]]

* BeneathTheMask: Micchy was initially introduced as a cheerful and friendly person who just wanted to spend time with his friends. As time goes on, however, he is revealed to be very ruthless and manipulative, and he starts to care more about his own happiness than his friends'.

** By the time Helheim invades, he's asked whether [[spoiler:Kouta]] used to be an ally, to which he replies that his allies are the ones who ''follow orders''. And after [[spoiler:Kouta pulls ''another'' new Arms out of nowhere]], he's LaughingMad.

** [[spoiler: NeutralNoLonger: Micchy has finally decided what side he wants to be on. [[TheDarkSide Yggdrasil's side.]] [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder Then when Yggdrasil falls he sides with the Overlord Redyue...]]]]

* ForHappiness: Deconstructed; Micchy justifies his joining Yggdrasil with the desire to protect his friends from the conflict with Helheim and keep them happy. However, he becomes more and more comfortable with lying to his friends and trying to manipulate them into doing what he thinks is best. He eventually goes too far and begins trying to steer them away from ''anything'' that would make them feel bad, even if ''not'' knowing the truth would hurt them. He also becomes bitter and angry with his friends (especially Kouta) when they don't go along with his scheming since he is convinced that he knows what's best for them.

** [[spoiler:Eventually deconstructed: Micchy does want to be like Kouta, but only in the sense that Kouta is admired and respected by Mai, Team Gaim, and Takatora. Instead of realizing that Kouta earns this respect by being a noble, heroic person, Micchy becomes jealous and bitter. This ultimately leads him to betray Kouta, become a {{Yandere}} for Mai, and stand by and do nothing while his brother is nearly killed.]]

* ItsAllAboutMe: Though he claims his actions are for the benefit of his friends' happiness, it becomes clear from all the lies and deception that Micchy doesn't really respect them as individuals and only cares about the emotional reward that their relationships with him provide. [[spoiler:When Kouta and Takatora (his best friend and brother, respectively) bond with one another, Micchy turns on them with almost no hesitation, to the point that he stands by and lets the latter be nearly killed and tries to kill the former himself.]]

* LackOfEmpathy: Micchy justifies his descent into villainy with his desire to protect his friends, but it becomes increasingly clear that he doesn't really care about their feelings or desires. He instead tries to control them behind their backs and gets mad when they don't go along with his scheming, since he's convinced that only he knows what's best for them. [[spoiler:His anger and frustration leads him to become much more dangerous as time goes on: he's now trying to outright kill Kouta out of jealousy, he threatened innocent people with Inves when Mai was trying to spread information about Helheim to save lives, and he stood by and did nothing while his brother was apparently murdered. He's now working with Redyue and aiding her invasion attempts, despite the number of casualties that would inevitably ensue.]]

* [[spoiler:LoveMakesYouCrazy [[LoveMakesYouEvil And Evil]]]]

*** This is TruthInTelevision, since this action is a typical, real-world emotional blackmail technique.

* MartyrWithoutACause: A villainous example. Micchy's entire StartOfDarkness came about due to his desire to protect his friends. However, instead of working with and trusting them, he remained convinced that he was the only person capable of making the right decisions and resorted to lies, manipulations, and joining Yggdrasil to force them to do what he thought was best, all in the name of "protecting" them. As Kouta unintentionally defies him again and again, Micchy becomes increasingly bitter, seeing him as an IdiotHero who was ruining Micchy's attempts to keep him safe.

* {{Narcissist}}: Micchy shows all the signs of being a real life one. While capable of a full emotional range he has a massive superiority complex and loses it when his self inflated sense of worth is threatened, this leaves him incapable of caring about anyone but himself, and his "friendship" with Kouta and Mai exist solely for emotional satisfaction, and he doesn't care about them as people seeing them more as extensions of himself. ** In #6, he openly agrees with Hideyasu's strategy of taking down top dog Kaito by ganging up on him. However, since Kouta decides to defend Kaito, he decides to not go along with the ganging up.

* PsychopathicManChild: Despite being sixteen, Micchy fiys this trope disturbingly well. He doesn't seem to care about anyone or anything else beyond what he personally wants. [[spoiler:He's even willing to kill his best friend and threaten innocent people if it helps his goals.]]
* PsychoSidekick: In the end, no matter what side he ends up on, Micchy's only true allegiance lies with Kouta and Mai and he will cross ''any line'' to "help" them. [[spoiler:Unfortunately, he becomes bitter towards Kouta when the latter doesn't go along with his manipulations, and ends up betraying him. Micchy is still technically loyal towards Mai, but [[{{Yandere}} not in a good way.]]]]

* TeenGenius: One of Japan's brightest students and he shows it with his many schemes and gambits.

* UndyingLoyalty: Micchy has a very unhealthy and somewhat sycophantic devotion to Kouta and Mai. His entire world revolves around him and by the Yggdrasill saga Micchy's only objective is to make them happy.

* WellIntentionedExtremist: Joins his brother as one in Yggdrasill.
