Charles Xavier, the longtime supporter for equal rights to mutantkind. He leads the nation that is Krakoa, after learning that mutants will become the majority in twenty years' time, and learning that he has to adopt a more pragmatic philosophy in order to save mutants.

* AmbiguouslyEvil: Something isn't right about him. Not only has he inexplicably abandoned his philosophy of integration and equality in favor of isolationism and looking down on normal humans, but he’s suddenly willing to work with villains like Mystique, Sabretooth, and Toad to get things done. One of the first things we see him do is send them to steal valuable data from Damage Control, seemingly not caring when Sabretooth kills several innocent security guards in the process. ''House of X'' #2 indicates that he's not actually evil at all, but is willing to sacrifice his initial dream for the sake of ensuring a lasting future for all mutants. There's still a lot that's shady and unpleasant about what he does, though.
* AntiClimacticUnmasking: An odd example, considering that it follows [[spoiler:his assassination]] in ''X-Force'' #1, but ''X-Force'' #2 showcases that [[spoiler:his face is completely normal when he's not wearing Cerebro]].
** The more traditional example occurs in X-Men #4, removing Cerebro during the economic summit.
* AntiHero: Gone are the days of the PatrickStewartSpeech-delivering idealist that we once knew, although that isn't to say he's turned bad. X is still very much someone with noble intentions and still believes in coexistence, but he's become a lot more pragmatic in response to learning the full extent of the problems facing mutantkind.
* BigGood: Has been one for mutants for a very long time. In actuality, it turns out that he's part of a [[BigBadDuumvirate Big Good]] [[InvertedTrope Duumvirate]] with Moira X, who is using her knowledge to ensure that mutants never have to worry about going extinct ever again... And Magneto, who has played along with their plans this whole time.
* BodySurf: Charles Xavier's mind is possessing Fantomex's body, although Fantomex is completely fine with this. As such, he's no longer disabled, and can walk again.
** According to WordOfGod, he's back in his own body after his assassination.
* BreakHisHeartToSaveHim: An interesting platonic version - Moira makes Charles read her mind to see that throughout her lives, he's never changed; and if mutants are to survive as a species, his conceptions need to be broken, and built anew.
* TheChessmaster: Nearly everything that's happened since the X-Men's formation has been a part of a larger, previously-unseen plan with Moira, with the foundation of a mutant state on Krakoa serving as one of the most important steps toward an end goal of ensuring that Mutants are not driven extinct by Sentinels.
* MalevolentMaskedMen: His signature helmet, which looks a lot like [[ComicBook/UltimateFantasticFour The Maker]]. Downplayed in the sense that he's not actually evil, but he is more ruthless than he's ever been.
* MindRape: Currently, the worst he's done is [[spoiler:messing with Reed Richards' mind to prevent him from building a device that hides the X-Gene again]]. He points out that this is a CruelMercy as he could have just erased his mind of the entire debacle, but he wants to prove a point.
* {{Realpolitik}}: Xavier abandons his long-held dream of a peaceful coexistence between mutants and humanity for the time being in order to establish Krakoa as a mutant state that can operate as a global superpower. To accomplish this goal, he's willing to greatly aid humanity with miracle drugs as long as they recognize Krakoa as a sovereign state. However, this also comes at a cost of giving amnesty to known Mutant criminals and terrorists that can abuse their diplomatic immunity. At least at first, as Sabretooth finds out [[AndIMustScream the hard way]].

* AntiHero: He's served as a NecessaryEvil for years in order to ensure the survival of the mutant species, whereas Professor X has been a more traditionally-heroic figure in spite of being equally anti-heroic in reality.
* BlasphemousBoast: Comparing the mutants to being gods, as the above quote demonstrates.
* GoodAllAlong: In a sense. A substantial portion of what he's done over the years has been part of a massive XanatosGambit in conjunction with Charles Xavier and Moira X.
* HazyFeelTurn: He's currently not in a position where he actively wants to subjugate humanity, but that doesn't make him the good guy just because he's working with X again.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Between Moira and Xavier's first alliance with him and the present, he went rogue for a time. He has since come back to their side.
* LightIsNotGood: His costume is the primarily white version he wore during Bendis's run, but he's not a shining paragon of virtue unless you're a mutant.
* NumberTwo: Acts in Xavier's favor when needed, and is the highest authority behind Xavier himself.

Destiny, Mystique, and Pyro confront her and tell her that, in spite of her good intentions, mankind would force it upon their kind.
* InSpiteOfANail: In spite of Moira's efforts in multiple timelines, mutants end up getting killed by the Sentinels. She dedicates her tenth life to making sure that this never happens, using what she's learned from the other timelines.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Her ninth life, where it was known that they couldn't win, so she learned all she could and then got herself killed to give her tenth life all the advantage she could.
* LivingADoubleLife: She spent her first lifetime unaware of her mutant heritage and the rest keeping it a secret from everyone except her allies in lives four, five, six, eight, nine, and ten.
* LogicalWeakness: If she is killed before she turns 13 (when her mutant gene activates), then she can't resurrect. Destiny uses that knowledge to make sure that she doesn't try anything outright dangerous to the mutant species.
* ManipulativeBastard: A little bit. She reveals herself to Charles early, but her diary notes she's being carefully selective about ''what'' she's revealing, and that one of her goals is to try and shed his idealism, being irritated when this doesn't take entirely.
* MeaningfulName: Done retroactively; "Moira" means "destiny", which is somewhat ironic given her adversity toward Destiny herself, but it also fits given that she's aware of the destiny of mutantkind unless drastic action is taken. The name also translates to "shared", which is befitting of someone who shares multiple lifetimes' worth of knowledge with Professor X.
* PeggySue: Her powers let her pull this trope off, as long as she only dies after her powers activate at 13.
* PosthumousCharacter: Moira has been dead for several years by the time that Krakoa becomes a mutant state... Except not really, because the tenth timeline specifies that she ''faked'' her death with a "Shi'ar golem."

** All this time, Moira had been perceived as the X-Men's greatest {{Muggle}} ally. Not anymore.
** She was originally killed off in the 2001 "Dreams End" storyline. Now, it's established that this was a fake thanks to the Shi'ar, and Moira is alive and well.
** Her conception of Proteus is changed to her apparently having sought Joe out to ensure the resulting progeny would be a powerful Mutant.
* TheReveal: A big one in ''House of X'' #2: she's a mutant, and has influenced Charles Xavier's long-term goals, culminating in the foundation of Krakoa.
* RousseauWasRight: After a fashion. While she notes that having an adult mind transfer into a fetus is something that should be horrifying, she notes that she finds the experience comforting, knowing that her family was there to protect her. If anything, she found the world to be a more hostile place after being reborn.
* ScrewDestiny: Figuratively and metaphorically, Moira has no small animosity with the mutant Destiny and also wants to avert what seems to be a constant of mutant extinction at the hands of humanity by proxy of the sentinels. After failing to prevent them from destroying mutantkind in various lifetimes, she uses her last life to help Charles Xavier come up with a plan to ensure their survival well into the future. Because she doesn't want to be found out and exposed again she singles out mutant precogs as the only mutants not to be allowed or resurrected on Krakoa.
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: She attempts this in multiple lifetimes, but fails, usually because of the Sentinels. However, it's indicated that her tenth lifetime will end up being way more successful.
* TomatoInTheMirror: She's been a mutant throughout the entire run of the ''X-Men'' franchise, rather than a human ally. She made this discovery at the beginning of her second life, but doesn't realize what she is until she sees Charles Xavier reveal his status as a mutant to the general public.
* TokenHuman: One of the few ordinary humans to consistently help the X-Men in a world where humans hate and fear them... Which gets subverted in a big way when it turns out that she's a mutant herself.
* UpToEleven: Destiny notes that, if she makes the right decisions, then she may be able to get an eleventh life with her powers.
* WalkingSpoiler: It is impossible to discuss her in this series without mentioning that she is a mutant and what her powers are, and the influence she wields as a result of them.

** In her seventh, eighth, and ninth lives, she resorted to unscrupulous (and, on occasion, outright evil) methods to ensure the survival of the mutant species. None of them worked out, so she's taking what appears to be a more measured approach on her tenth life.

He largely dismisses them apart from Ben, and only backs down from taking Sabretooth back when it's clear he could end up starting a fight if he goes further. Even then, it's likely only a delay.

* TheBrute: He's the most brutal of the three, and is the one does the bulk of the fighting.
* ButtMonkey: In ''House of X'' #1. He's the only Brotherhood member to get burned by Torch and clobbered by Thing while Mystique & Toad escape unharmed. He's captured by Invisible Woman and left behind by his team. Cyclops come to get him but decides to leave him behind and when he questions Cyclops. he's promptly told to shut up by Thing.

* TookALevelInDumbass: Prior to VillainDecay, Creed was shown to be a GeniusBruiser with expertise in hacking, a top CIA operative, an accomplished businessman, and a dangerous villain all on his own. Here, he's Mystique's DumbMuscle, whom she has to lecture about how to accomplish missions without being reckless.
* TheNotSoHarmlessPunishment: ''House of X'' #6 does this in a big way. During his trial at Achilles, he's as remorseless as ever, but gets even more haughty when Emma comes to take him back to Krakoa -even smugly firing his defense attorney. However, back at Krakoa he is put on trial by the council with new rules they put in place -one that forbids the murder of humans. As punishment Creed is swallowed up by Krakoa and imprisoned below the surface to spend eternity in a state of fully conscious stasis.
