** Also with Nami. an axe to grind was disambiguated. This example isn't actually a trope.

Added DiffLines:

Characters from the 2013 all-CGI movie.
----
[[foldercontrol]]

!!Crew of the ''Arcadia''
[[folder:Captain Harlock]]
!!Captain Harlock
->'''Voiced by:''' Shun Oguri (Japanese), Creator/DavidMatranga (English)

The immortal captain of the ghost ship ''Arcadia'', he has been raiding Gaia Coalition bases for a hundred years. He is infamous across space, and utterly ruthless when it comes to his enemies. His past is largely unknown, however, and he remains shrouded in mystery.
----
* TheAtoner: He accidentally [[spoiler:rendered the Earth uninhabitable in an attempt to protect it from the hypocritical Gaia Coalition elites trying to live on it]]. He's willing to [[spoiler:destroy the entire universe and let a new one be born]] to make up for it [[spoiler:until Yama/Logan's discovery that the Earth is healing on its own gives him hope for redemption.]]
* ByronicHero: A TallDarkAndHandsome DarkMessiah with a DarkAndTroubledPast? Maybe it's all the [[{{Pun}} Dark Matter...]]
* CoolSword: A long metal foil with some kind of energy discharge ability, as well as a gun.
* FallenHero: Before he [[spoiler:abused the power of Dark Matter to (accidentally) [[ApocalypseWow turn Earth into a complete wasteland]]]], Harlock was said to have been a particularly [[WideEyedIdealist idealistic]] soldier with strong leadership qualities, who defended Earth with his very soul. However, $&*# happens, as the saying goes...
* GoodIsNotNice: He is distant, cold, ruthless, and willing to throw potential crewmembers off his ship for simply not coming up with the right answer fast enough. He's also the only one working to actually improve humanity's lot in the universe.
* ManipulativeBastard: He turns out to have been one of these all along when it is revealed that his true goal has long been [[spoiler:to ''destroy'' the universe, rather than to ''restore'' it to a "better" time in the distant past]]. He seems largely at peace with [[spoiler:[[ExactWords lying by omission]] and making liberal use of [[MetaphoricallyTrue Metaphorical Truth]] to mislead his followers into truly believing that they are striving for a much nicer goal, in order to keep them blissfully ignorant and working on his side]].
* SecretKeeper: He realizes Yama/Logan is a Coalition spy soon after he joins the crew, but keeps it to himself, even after Logan tries to attack him while trying to set the second to last Genesis Clock bomb. He explains himself to Logan with a YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre speech.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Logan]]
!!Logan/Yama

->'''Voiced by:''' Haruma Miura (Japanese), Creator/AdamGibbs (English)

Yama (Logan in English) is a Gaia Coalition spy who earned his way onto the ''Arcadia'' by claiming that pirates sail for freedom. He fights to please his brother, a Gaia Coalition admiral, who he crippled in an accident.
----
* TheAtoner: He crippled his brother [[spoiler:and did worse to his brother's girlfriend]] in an accident when his plants were dying. His brother demanded that Logan work as his personal agent to prove his remorse. [[spoiler:Logan's arc is learning to move past his sins and find hope for true freedom and redemption.]]
* AudienceSurrogate: He largely exists to ask questions to the crew, such as "How does the ship work?" and "Why are we dropping a giant bomb on an uninhabited planet?" His character arc is still at the center of the movie, however.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: He wears a suit similar to that of Harlock's uniform, minus the BadassCape. [[spoiler:Guess who takes the mantle of Harlock at the end of the movie?]]
* TheMole: He was put on the ''Arcadia'' to find out everything he could about the ship, and kill Harlock if possible. Harlock knew about this the entire time.
* ShipTease:
** With Kei. She's the one who saves him from falling the first time he gets on the ship, and she's the one responsible for teaching him his duties as a member of the crew. When the two have their lives in danger on the corrosive gas planet and Logan throws Kei to safety, appearing to have sacrificed his own life so she could live, Kei is very distraught at the thought of the ship leaving him behind.
** Also with Nami. They're shown as downright ''adorable'' ChildhoodFriends in a {{Flashback}}, and even Ezra is plagued with jealousy over the idea that Nami's motivation behind [[spoiler:feeding the ''Arcadia'' classified Gaia information]], despite being ''Ezra's wife,'' could have been because she was in love with ''Logan'' instead of him. Logan himself is shown to care for Nami a ''lot'' and [[spoiler:''breaks down'']] when he finds out [[spoiler:she passed away]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Miime]]
!!Miime
->'''Voiced by:''' Yuu Aoi (Japanese), Creator/EmilyNeves (English)
The [[LastOfHisKind last member of the only alien species humanity has ever encountered]], Miime is the one who gave the ''Arcadia'' its dark matter drive, and is still in charge of controlling it. She is Harlock's closest confidant.
----
* SecretKeeper: She's the only one who knows all of Harlock's secrets, largely due to being there for most of them.
* SpaceElf: Pointy ears, ethereal form, and mysterious personality? Maybe they had a checklist they were working off of.
* SpaceshipGirl: As she puts it, she is bound to the ''Arcadia'' and Captain Harlock. [[spoiler:"No matter who is at the helm."]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kei]]
!!Kei Yuki
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MiyukiSawashiro (Japanese), Creator/JessicaBoone (English)
The only female human member of the ''Arcadia's'' crew, Kei is Harlock's trusted lieutenant. She is deeply loyal to him, and follows him faithfully.
----
* ActionGirl: Cuts through the enemy at least as well as the boys in their hardsuits, despite wearing just a basic spacesuit herself.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: She has a blatantly obvious crush on the Captain. Yullian calls her on it when the whole crew is arguing and is promptly fed a [[FisticuffProvokingComment mouthful of fist.]]
* MsFanservice: Skin-tight spacesuit, luscious curves, zero-gee shower scene...
* ShipTease:
** With Logan. She's the one who saves him from falling the first time he gets on the ship, and she's the one responsible for teaching him his duties as a member of the crew. At first, she berates him constantly, but is shown eventually to have grown a soft side for him. [[spoiler:She's furious when Logan reveals himself as a double agent, but is the first member of the crew to side with him when he acts to set a captured Harlock free -- if only for pragmatic reasons.]]
** With Yullian, in a BelligerentSexualTension way. The two are well familiar with each other due to sailing together for so long, and Yullian gets ''very'' protective over her at times, despite butting heads over leadership decisions. We also have his low-key jealousy over her crush on the Captain.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Yullian]]
!!Yullian/Yattaran
->'''Voiced by:''' Arata Furuta (Japanese), Rob Mungle (English)
The ''Arcadia's'' big and boisterous lieutenant, Yullian is possibly second in command of the ship (he might be behind Kei, it's a little unclear), and always good for a joke.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: In the original manga and most adaptations, Yattaran is a short, {{gonk}}ish BunnyEarsLawyer who practically has to be knocked over the head to [[{{Otaku}} draw his attention away from his plastic model kits]]. Yattaran/Yullian in the 2013 adaptation is reimagined as a BigFun GeniusBruiser.
* TheBigGuy: Wields [[AnAxeToGrind a giant axe]] in his [[PoweredArmor hardsuit]], and a [[{{BFG}} big gun]] outside it.
* ShipTease: With Kei, in a BelligerentSexualTension way. The two are well familiar with each other due to sailing together for so long, and he gets ''very'' protective over her at times, despite butting heads over their leadership decisions. We also have his lowkey jealousy over her crush on the Captain.
* TheSmartGuy: Surprisingly, he's also the ship's hacker.
[[/folder]]

!!Gaia Coalition

[[folder:Ezra]]
!!Ezra/Isora
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa (Japanese), Creator/MikeYager (English)
Logan's brother, he was crippled in an accident years ago, and is confined to a hover-chair. He is the one who sent Logan to the ''Arcadia'', and is in charge of keeping it as far from Earth as possible.
----
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Despite being a ruthless zealot of the Gaia Coalition, even he quails at their decision to [[spoiler:destroy the EarthThatWas to salvage their credibility by blaming Harlock for the loss. He eagerly tries to kill Yama/Logan in the process, but he does use his personal flagship to move the ''Arcadia'' so the Earth's not in the line of fire of the Coalition's WaveMotionGun, which was using the transmitter in Logan's eye as a targeting beacon. His dying words are that he did it for Nami's sake.]]
* EvilCripple: He wasn't exactly nice before he lost his legs, but that ''really'' didn't help.
* TheResenter: He blames Logan for ''everything''. His legs and [[spoiler:his girlfriend]] are more than a little justified, but he also blames him for failing to kill an immortal space pirate who saw him coming miles away.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nami]]
!!Nami
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MaayaSakamoto (Japanese), Rebekah Stevens (English)
Ezra's girlfriend, who quietly but openly disapproves of how he treats his brother. She was present at the accident that lost him his legs.
----
* RoboticReveal: [[spoiler:Ezra got off easy. She was very nearly killed by the accident, and is confined to a life support pod. She uses a hologram to interact with the world]].
* SilkHidingSteel: There are hints of it at the beginning, with her sharp words regarding Ezra's treatment of Logan, but later she [[spoiler:sends Logan vital intelligence to break through the blockade, and baits Ezra into pulling her plug when he confronts her]].
