* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: The Master serves as one for Digimon Tamers as a whole and portrays what happens if they let their negative emotions and grief consume and run all over them in the most cynical way possible. Worse is unlike [[Anime/DigimonTamers Megidramon]] or Wendigomon, the Master is no rampaging beast but an actual PhysicalGod with its human partner taking over its consciousness. The end result is an intelligent, willing OmnicidalManiac who not only displays an incredible amount of spite against humans and Kemonogami alike, manipulates his fellow monsters into deals where only he comes out at the top, and desires the destruction of both worlds out under a misguided belief that his sister betrayed him, but also possesses sufficient, god-like powers to actually carry out the threats.

* FinalBoss: In the Moral route, it's genuinely the last obstacle that the humans have to fight.

* BonusBoss: They can be fought as part of the Mugen Recollection Bonus Dungeon as the strongest enemies in the game. And as part of the plot of the Truthful Route, where they are less powerful but still a large step above what came before.

* KilledOffScreen: It's implied that out of the Truthful Route, the Master's minions killed at least Baihumon (likely Ebonwumon and Azulongmon too) so the seals put on him break and he can exact revenge to the human world. Based on how the Master gets beaten before he can compromise the abandoned school however, it's likely that Zhuqiaomon always survives to the end.

* {{Sadist}}: She ''gleefully'' enjoys orchestrating the events that lead [[spoiler:to Shuuji's mental breakdown and Lopmon's Dark Evolution, reappearing after Wendigomon eats Shuuji alive to rub everything in the children's faces. She also had no problem ordering Cyclomon to kill an explicitly emotional and mentally unstable Ryo.]] Unfortunately for her, this led to her being given [[spoiler:a swift death by Piedmon because she didn't take a more direct approach.]]

* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:Is set up as one of the game's player characters but is also ''guaranteed'' to be the first death in a non-NG+ playthrough. His demise also marks the game's shift into a much darker tone, and starts a downwards spiral that results in Shuuji's own death.]]

* NoSell: [[spoiler:Baihumon is completely immune to status debuffs and stat drops.]]

* PowerMakesYourVoiceDeep: Her usual voice is high-pitched and cutesy, but changes to this as Cerberusmon and Anubimon.

* LightIsGood: His final form, Cherubimon, is a holy beast Digimon, and he is fully on the side of Shuuji and the othe kids when it is unlocked.

* RedemptionDemotion: Wendigomon suffers this in the Truthful route. While his stats might grow to be higher than his form as a boss by levelling up or using stat items, he's only a Champion level Digimon, so he'll be replaced by his higher natural forms by that point.

* StopHelpingMe: He's resentful of Kunemon's efforts to befriend and comfort him.

* {{Irony}}: [[spoiler:In Part 6 of the Truthful route, Shuuji is the only party member whose relationship with his partner monsters hasn't been shaken, believing Lopmon would never intentionally hurt him since the little guy stuck with Shuuji despite everything the latter put him through.]]

* AnIcePerson: He uses Ice, or more accurately, water attacks and is the only partner with reliable water output. (While Miu's Syakomon is otensibly a water-oriented monster, her Ultimate and Mega forms don't even have reliable water attacks unless you give her a water skill.)

* CombatMedic: While monsters can equip healing techniques to use, special mention goes to Labramon as she can naturally heal others with Cure Liqueur in battle (notably, before the first Cure skill can be obtained).
* ContraltoOfDanger: Her usual voice is high-pitched and cutesy, but changes to this as Cerberusmon and Anubimon.

* EvilSoundsDeep: Coupled with ContraltoOfDanger. As Plutomon, Labramon's voice takes on a more raspy, deeper pitch. Ultimately downplayed in the evil aspect since Plutomon is on your side if you're the one using it.

** At first glance, the professor is way more sane and normal than the younger victims, being a seasoned and wise old man and thus averting this. The corrupted part comes from [[spoiler:his Garurumon, whose situation is a lot like Kari's Gatomon, having reached champion level on their own after feeling abandoned by their destiny and having given up on that bond until his human can take the steps to repair it. However, Garurumon is nowhere near as forgiving as Gatomon, only at best remaining n aloof ally until the Moral and Truthful endgame]].

** The professor has elements of both TK and Kari, as he's still separate from the chosen 8 in his own way like she is like they were in the 2020 reboot but far more normal than her at a glance. [[spoiler:His Garurumon's situation is a lot like Kari's Gatomon, having reached champion level on their own after feeling abandoned by their destiny and having given up on that bond until his human can take the steps to repair it]].

** Like the ''Adventure'' series, Piedmon is the leader of the group of evil monsters that serves a mysterious greater force. But unlike his first incarnation, this Piedmon is interested in saving his world, even if it involves sacrificing children that wandered into their world.

* ThisCannotBe: When [[spoiler:Ryo saves Shuuji and Lopemon, then the party kills [=MegaSeadramon=]]] in Part 5 of the Truthful Route, Arukenimon is left in complete disbelief her plan completely failed.
* VillainousBreakdown: She has one on Part 5 of the Truthful Route when [[spoiler:Ryo prevents Lopmon's dark evolution and the party kills [=MegaSeadramon=]].]] For the first time up to that point, ''nothing'' went her way, wiping her smirk off her face and leaving her in disbelief her plan completely failed. She flees the scene, swearing revenge in the process.

* AdaptationalSeriousness: The original Puppetmon is a PsychopathicManchild who acts like a spoiled brat who's willing to kill his underlings just because they spoke ill of him. These are all dead-serious in avenging Piedmon and the Master and will outright attempt to ''kill'' the party and Garurumon for that. (Not just thrown to the Master as sacrifices, they want them dead.)

* PerversePuppet: Though unlike in ''Digimon Adventure'' they are played as bog-serious as they could and you won't be feeling sorry for them.

* ParentalSubstitute: [[spoiler:In the Truthful Route he fills this role for Shuuji, as he finds him to be a better example than his abusive father. Overlaps with PromotionToParent with his sister in routes they survive, since she's still a child and their parents' status is unknown but presumably dead due to the Professor's age.]]

* ThresholdGuardians: Tests the professor by challenging him into a battle and forbids any other human and their Digimon partners from challening him. Gameplay-wise, it means you can only use Gabumon and three Free Monsters against him. To make things worse, if you don't have a Moral Route clear record (and grinded his levels and train his stats) before this, Gabumon will be stuck at around half his level and can be defeated easily, and his defeat results in a game over.
