[[quoteright:138:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/drkstalkers_shadow.png]]
-> '''Class''': [[LivingShadow Phantom]]\\
'''Origin''': [[PartsUnknown Unknown]]\\\

Shadow is a malevolent blue phantom-like creature that jumps from body to body, allowing him to use the opponent he just defeated.
----
* BodySurf: He goes around by possessing the bodies of those he has defeated.
* CompositeCharacter: With Marionette in the Udon comic, in some fashion. Either he was controlling her body or he IS Marionette trapped in a smaller physical form, but either way he gleefully reveals himself and emerges from her remains after Morrigan and Lilith destroy her.
* DittoFighter: Of previously defeated foes.
* FakeLongevity: For "[[CapcomSequelStagnation sequels]]."

!! Marionette
[[quoteright:114:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darkstalkers_marionette.png]]

'''Origin''': [[PartsUnknown Unknown]]\\\

Marionette is a rag doll-like toy (a puppet) creature, resembling a woman in a leaf-like dress, jester hat, and heels with short hair and a wind up key on her back. It is said that a evil phantom Shadow made a young woman his slave, turning her into a puppet in order to fulfill his task. Like Shadow, she can transform into other characters, but transforms into the opponent that she is currently fighting.
----
* CompositeCharacter: With Shadow in the Udon comic, where upon her destruction he rises from her remains. Its somewhat vague if he was trapped in her body or if he is Marionette's true form, however.
* CreepyDoll: She drops down from the top of the screen, accompanied by an OminousMusicBoxTune, and hangs motionless with a sad look on her face. Exactly ''what'' she's supposed to be is kept vaguely unclear.
* DittoFighter: Just like the Pokémon who named the trope, she can morph into the fighter she's currently opposing.
* MirrorMatch: Always the case with her, so it just comes down to who is better (or luckier).

!! Belial Aensland
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/belial_2.png]]

-> '''Class''': [[DemonLordsAndArchDevils Demon Lord]]\\
'''Origin''': [[{{Hell}} Makai]]\\\

Morrigan's deceased (adoptive) father and former ruler of Makai. He is the most powerful demon known.
----
* BadBoss: Implied. His servants, Lucien and Mudo, are so scared of what the Lord might subject them to if he ever were to find out how often they fail to keep Morrigan from doing her usual travels to the human world. They usually describe in very specific and gruesome ways the things he apparently is prone to do with anybody who is useless as a servant.
* KilledOffForReal: Belial is stated in official material related to ''Vampire Savior'' to have died between games two and three.
* LargeAndInCharge: His true form is the size of a building. Even in his more humanoid form, he still stands nearly twice as tall as his daughter.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Had at least two extra arms.
* PapaWolf: Morrigan is only his adopted daughter, but as far as we know he still loved and cared for her as if she was his biological child.
* PhysicalGod: Albeit, an aging one. This does not make him weaker but limited his time left on Makai.
* PosthumousCharacter: Plays an important role even after his death.
* PowerLevels: The very top of the food chain.
* {{Satan}}: In Hebrew, "Belial" describes something wicked or worthless, which later became personified as The Devil in the New Testament. Belial is therefore the in-series representation of Satan himself.
* TheUnseen: Has not appeared in the games themselves, though he has been used in some concept art, above.
* WillfullyWeak: Kept himself bound most of the time to prevent Makai's destruction.

!! Lucien and Mudo
-> '''Class''': Demon (servants of the Aensland royal family)\\
'''Origin''': [[{{Hell}} Makai]]\\\

Two demon servants that play the role of guards for Morrigan. They are tasked by Belial himself to keep Morrigan from avoiding her duty as queen of Makai and going to the human world.
----
* ButtMonkey: Usually victims of Belial's wrath anytime they can't prevent Morrigan from going to the human world, always punished for it.
* TheIgor: A pair of them; beleaguered, but undyingly loyal goblinoid servants of House Aensland.
* StrangeSyntaxSpeaker: Talks like Yoda, Mudo does.

!! Anita
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darkstalkersanita.png]]
-> '''Class''': [[PsychicPowers Human Esper]]\\
'''Origin''': [[PartsUnknown Unknown]]\\\

A young girl whom Donovan protects.
----
* AdaptationalNameChange: Named "Amanda" in the western cartoon, following the second game as noted below under DubNameChange.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Because of her powerful psychic abilities, Anita was shunned from normal society.
* AnimalMotifs: Cats. Anita's bangs rise and fall in a fashion very reminiscent of cat's ears and end by curling out at the side to resemble cat-whiskers. From certain angles, one of her braids might even resemble a cat's tail.
* BreakTheCutie:
** Seeing Donovan [[StartOfDarkness lose himself to evil]] for her sake caused her to cry for the first time in her life.
** Having her parents die at the hands of a Darkstalker and then being shunned by everyone else because of her powers made Anita shut off her own emotions, so she won't feel pain ever again.
* BullyingADragon: Happens to her in the OVA, when a couple of kids throw insults on her despite knowing she has supernatural powers.
* TheChosenOne: She's prophesied to fight against Jedah and Dee.
* CreepyChild: Something Donovan plans to "fix."
* DubNameChange: In Donovan's ending of the second game, she is named as "Amanda."
* EmotionlessGirl: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] as the traumas Anita suffered caused her pain, so she shut off her emotions to avoid feeling pain again. Until the emotions were forcibly brought out of her, that is.
* ForeheadOfDoom: Anita has a bulbous forehead, which emphasises her slightly creepy, doll-like quality.
%%Don't place GuestFighter here. Read the commentary at the top.
* HorrifyingTheHorror: Jedah Dohma, an all powerful demonic overlord feared by all within the Makai, is ''terrified'' of Anita, owing to her status as TheChosenOne destined to come to blows against him in the future.
* IAmWho: Jedah hints her true destiny to both Anita and her guardian when they meet him in his [[DeadEndRoom secret arena]]. It is widely believed she will be Earth's saving grace who'll grow to become queen of the human race in the future.
* MoralityPet: Played with. In teaching Anita how to open up, Donovan comes to show compassion and care for the girl, a bond that eventually leads to him sacrificing his humanity at the end of his quest to vanquish the Darkstalkers.
%%* NotSoStoic: See BreakTheCutie.
* ParentalAbandonment: Her parents died when a Darkstalker attacked Anita's village, killing off everyone but her. The sheer trauma led to her becoming an EmotionlessGirl.
* PromotedToPlayable: {{Averted|Trope}} in that she was at one point considered to be included as a playable character in ''Vampire Savior'', but didn't make the final cut. The only traces that remain in the finished game are a pair of small portraits that [[DummiedOut lurk unused in the game's data.]] The design intended for this older incarnation of Anita finally saw the light of day as part of Dee's ending sequence in the [=PlayStation=] 2 ''Darkstalkers Collection''. Played straight in ''VideoGame/MarvelSuperHeroes'' (leading up to the Marvel vs Capcom crossover series) where she is a hidden character.
* PsychicPowers: Implied to have them.
* ShoutOut:
** The concept of a silent, slightly creepy young girl who carries around a headless doll was likely inspired by Creator/LucioFulci's ''Film/DontTortureADuckling''.
** Her appearance with the twin braids, however, suggests she was inspired by an even older creepy child with a headless doll who came back into the spotlight during the TheNineties: [[Film/TheAddamsFamily Wednesday Addams]] with Marie Antoinette.
%%* TheStoic
* TragicKeepsake: The (headless) doll Anita carries around seems to be a memento of her dead mother.
* WhenSheSmiles: At the very end of the OVA, and it is ''adorable''. Her teenaged self from Donovan's ending in ''Night Warriors''' is also shown to be more cheerful.

!! Lucy, Grace, Alto, Pico, and Nana
->'''Class''': [[CatGirl Catwoman]]\\
'''Origin''': UsefulNotes/UnitedStates\\\

Several catwomen Felicia met during her tour through America and joined her group. They are Lucy, Grace, Alto, Pico, and Nana, who all serve as backup in musicals as well as in fights.
----
* AgeLift: Nonno and Piko are aged-up for their cameos in the ''Marvel vs. Capcom'' crossovers.
* AmazonBrigade: A group of catwomen who are capable of beating down on enemies by ganging up on them.
* AssistCharacter: The Kitty's Helper move summons Alto on the battlefield, who will run around and perform jump attacks whenever Felicia attacks.
* BadassAdorable: The kits, Alto, Pico, and Nana.
* BigDamnHeroes: They come and beat the hell out of Felicia's opponent when she calls on them.
* CatFolk: They, like Felicia, are from a race of all cat women, who tripse around in nothing but fur and find humans fun.
* CatGirl: A whole singing group of them. Eat your heart out, Josie and the Pussycats.
* SexyCatPerson: Much like Felicia herself, Lucy and Grace are quite the lookers, being the eldest of the group.

!! Emperor Ozom
->'''Class''': [[DemonLordsAndArchDevils Demon]]\\
'''Origin''': [[{{Hell}} Makai]]\\\

The dude who resurrected Lord Raptor. He is as powerful as Demitri and Pyron.
----
* DevourTheDragon: Ozom's reason for resurrecting and recruiting Lord Raptor was to eventually eat his soul. By commanding Lord Raptor to commit more and more vicious acts, his soul would become more and more evil, and thus more delicious. But before Ozom could enjoy his meal, he was destroyed by Jedah in the creation of his new dimension.
* TheEmperor: A self proclaimed example, but is not actually strong enough to command rule of Makai, since he is merely an A class even after taking some of Jedah's power.
* HollywoodVoodoo: Used to resurrect Lord Raptor.
* TheUsurper: After tricking Jedah into dimensional portal-induced self-destruction and the passing of Belial, Ozom more or less became the head honcho of Makai. That didn't last long, of course.
* YourSoulIsMine: He loves to eat souls; the eviller, the tastier.

!! The Nobles of Makai

When the girls collapse in Hsien-Ko's ''Night Warriors'' ending, she uses her remaining spiritual powers to fetch their souls and allow them to be reborn. In Hsien-Ko's ''Vampire Savior'' ending, she also aids them to leave the Majingen in time.
----
* ActionMom: Defeated several monsters from the Demon World prior to her self-sacrifice.
%%* AnimeChineseGirl: OlderAndWiser version.
* HeroicSacrifice: For her two girls; not that she'll let death prevent her from continuing to watch over them.
* MamaBear: Not even death will stop her from protecting her children in two different lives.
* ParentsInDistress: Upon saving the twins, she herself was imprisoned in the Dark Realm. Now the girls fight to release her to return the favor.

!! Emily
-> '''Class''': Golem\\
'''Origin''': [[UsefulNotes/{{AllTheLittleGermanies}} German Confederation]] (present-day UsefulNotes/{{Germany}})\\\

Victor's older sister. More exactly she was a Frankenstein prototype that should have stopped functioning a long time ago, but was still sorta alive by the time Victor was created. * DamselInDistress: In ''Savior''.
* MoralityPet: To her "little brother" Victor.
* {{Retcon}}: Emily is introduced in the first two games as a teenager, but for some bizarre reason she re-appears as a young child in ''Vampire Savior''.

!! Tundrad

----
* EyesOutOfSight: His particularly long fur is always covering his eyes.
* SkeletonsInTheCoatCloset: He dons a horned skull as a helmet.
* {{Sleepyhead}}: He can be seen snoring away in Sasquatch's home stage despite all the commotion around him.

!!Cecil
->'''Class:''' Human\\
'''Origin:''' UsefulNotes/{{Mexico}}\\\

An orphaned Mayan boy whom Huitzil becomes a guardian to.
----
* CheerfulChild: Not even being in a demonic undeworld causes him to frown!
* {{Foil}}: To Anita, seeing as they are both potentially the strongest children in their series and serve as a MoralityPet (Anita to Donovan and Cecil to Huitzil). Whereas Cecil has no skills or abilities whatsoever and becomes the master of the giant army of Huitzils, Anita is known to be a powerful psychic and it's suggested that she'd be the one who becomes queen of the human race. Lastly, Cecil is happy and cheerful while Anita is emotionless.
* GoThroughMe: Does this gesture when a fight starts.
* HeartwarmingOrphan: Such a sweet and an innocent child who becomes good friends with a killer robot.
* TheKidWithTheRemoteControl: Is the "master" of the army of Huitzils at the end of ''Darkstalkers 3''.
* LittleGuyBigBuddy: The little one to the giant Huitzil.
* MeaningfulName: His name can mean "Owner", "Blessed" or "One with Goals". Fittingly he "technically" owns Huitzil, is blessed to have a giant mecha as a guardian and he's the one who gives Huitzil (and by extension, his brethren) a new directive.
* MoralityPet: Is Huitzil's, to the point that when the original Huitzil dies it sends a command to its brethren to "protect Cecil".
* PleaseWakeUp: States this if Huitzil loses.
* TagalongKid: Is dragged along Huitzil's ride in Majigen.

->'''Class:''' [[WickedWitch Witch]]\\\

A green-skinned witch with a disdain for cats that aren't black. Her black cat, Thomas, is a unique Cat-man.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: She is a green-skinned witch, no doubt inspired by the wicked witch of the west from ''Film/TheWizardOfOz''.
* CanonForeigner: She doesn't exist in the video games, but she does look like she could be part of it, being inspired by the WickedWitch. [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall Possibly lampshaded by Jon and Felicia]].
--> '''Jon Talbain:''' Who... the bloody hell was that?\\

* WickedWitch: Clearly inspired by the archetype, like all Darkstalkers are inspired by a movie monster. She is a green-skinned witch with a petty disdain for cats that aren't black and rides a broom, but she is not an old woman.

!!! Thomas
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thomas_55.jpg]]
->'''Class:''' Catman\\\

A black cat-man who is with Majorette. Deadly afraid of wolves.
----
* CanonForeigner: Doesn't exist in the video games, and the games themselves state his existence is impossible.
* ContinuitySnarl: In the series lore, there are only cat-girls, with no chance of males ones ever existing.
* MrFanservice: Possibly not intended, but he is easy on the eyes thanks to the art-style.
* TheOneGuy: He only known cat-man in existence.
* SatelliteCharacter: He doesn't have much characterization beyond hating wolves, he is simply Majorette's cat.

!!! Jack
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/morrigans_boyfriend.png]]
[[caption-width-right:250:Don't worry, I think I'd know what a monster looks like if I ever saw one, and I promise I'll steer clear.]]

->'''Class:''' Human\\\

A kindly fisherman who doesn't believes in the existence of Darkstalkers, at first. After a night of drinking, he makes his way to his house, but finds an allegedly homeless woman in a cemetery, mourning the death of her husband.\\
\\
Out of pity, Jack allows the poor woman to rest in his house during the night and offers her food, only to realize too late that woman is actually Morrigan Aensland, a succubus and queen of the Makai kingdom, in a human disguise. Morrigan seduces and kills Jack consuming his soul, leaving his body as a desecrated corpse which is found by one of his friends next day.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: His body is found in a different location than when he's last seen alive in the comic before Morrigan, the comic version, tried to kiss him. Also, torns shreds of his shirt and dried blood was under his corpse. This could mean he might have tried to fight back before Udon Morrigan won in the end.
* CanonForeigner: He is not from the game, being original from the comic. Which makes his fate all more tragic and ironic, since Morrigan would never do what she did to him in canon.
* {{Expy}}: With his blonde hair, blue eyes, skin tone and physical structure, he bares some resemblance to [[Franchise/StreetFighter Ken Masters]]. However, because of the crossover with ''Street Fighter'' comics that occured years after the comic he appears in, it's more than likely a coincidence.
* {{Irony}}: His horrible fate at the hands of Morrigan. It's ironic because Morrigan is far, far from being the evil monster the comics depicts her as and would never kill him the way she did in the comics. It's likely that an encounter between him and the canon Morrigan would make him believe in the Darkstalkers and realize that not all of them are evil.
* NiceGuy: He was friendly to a woman who needed a place to stay and turned down her offer to have sex since he won't take advantage of someone's widow. Morrigan (well, her comic version) took advantage of this.
* ShipTease: With Morrigan, though sadly it turns out she just wanted his soul. Ironically, if Morrigan wasn't portrayed as an evil typical succubus in the comics, there is the high chance that they would get into a relationship.
