The main hero of the series. Upon obtaining his ghost powers through a FreakLabAccident, 14-year old Danny uses it to combat the various ghosts that inhabit his [[CityOfAdventure hometown]]. He starts off shy, naive, BookDumb, and emotional, constantly trying to find a place in the world, whether it be gaining popularity or through his ghost powers. By the end of the series, Danny [[CharacterDevelopment gains confidence, courage, and matures]] considerably and finds his path as a hero.

* IJustWantToBeNormal: Danny has expressed this desire from time to time due to the large amount of danger and stress that comes from keeping his secret identity.

* EyeColourChange: His human side has blue eyes, and his ghostly SuperHero alter ego has green eyes, but whenever he turns evil (either BrainwashedAndCrazy or as his [[spoiler:[[FutureMeScaresMe evil alternate-future self]]]]) his eyes turn red.

He ultimately chooses to remain half-ghost to act as a bridge between the Earth and the Ghost Zone and protect both worlds.]]

Unlike other [[VanHelsingHateCrimee ghost hunters, like his parents, the Guys in White and Valerie Gray]], Danny has no interest in destroying his enemies as there are some he at least tries to befriend and is capable of knowing [[NotAlwaysEvil not ''all'' ghosts are evil]]. As for his clones, it's played straight with the more non-sentient ones, but averted with Danielle, as by the time he found out what she is, he had already started to grow fond of her and accepted her as family.

* HunterOfHisOwnKind: Danny is a half-ghost who fights other ghosts, only if they threaten his town and the world.

* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Downplayed. Unlike other ghost hunters, like his parents and Valerie, Danny has no interest in destroying his enemies as there are some he at least tries to befriend and is capable of knowing not ''all'' ghosts are evil. As for his clones, it's played straight with the more non-sentient ones, but averted with Danielle, as by the time he found out what she is, he had already started to grow fond of her and accepted her as family. However, in a conversation with Valerie, Danny makes it clear that he doesn’t condemn other ghost hunters for their casual cruelty and murderous intentions.

* StrawmanHasAPoint: Jazz is correct that her parents obsession with ghosts is detrimental for their family. It’s Jack and Maddie’s fault that [[FreakLabAccident Danny becomes half-ghost]] and the ghosts that terrorize the town come out of their portal.
