* CoolLoser: Darryl is usually portrayed as being a pathetic loser, yet hes the head of his own legal firm, a good parent, a forgiving and friendly ex-husband and has an incredibly strong relationship with a young, attractive and caring boyfriend. He's pretty much the only character anywhere near close to having his act together.

* NoBisexuals: Discussed in his solo number "Getting Bi", where he acknowledges the common belief that all bisexual men are simply gay and in denial about it, only to firmly reject it as being untrue.

* ImagineSpot: Most of the musical numbers are implied to take place in her mind.

* JewishAndNerdy: A gifted lawyer with an Ivy League education as well as Jewish heritage.

* ButtMonkey: Has been fired, reinstated and fired again. When he finally gets a VillainSong, it cuts to black halfway through the third line.

* BelligerentSexualTension: implied to have this with Rebecca, at least on her end.

* CharacterDevelopment: After Rebecca stands up to her, Naomi's relationship to her changes, leading her to become an AmazinglyEmbarassingParent instead of an abusive one. Her snipes are Rebecca still continue, but this time in a joking manner.

* {{Adorkable}}: Her enthusiasm and slightly nerdy looks give off this vibe. It makes you want to give her a big hug whenever someone picks on her.

* TheCastShowoff: While song and dance numbers are the norm in this series, a lot of attention is placed on Josh's break dancing ability.

* IvyLeagueForEveryone: Rebecca graduated from Harvard and Yale. Justified, in that she's repeatedly shown to be both incredibly hard-working and prodigiously gifted as a lawyer.

* JewishAndNerdy: A gifted, if pretentious, lawyer with an Ivy League pedigree as well as Jewish heritage.
* MsFanservice: The concept of {{Fanservice}} in general is parodied by her several times during musical numbers, which show her in provocative outfits only to juxtapose it with something decidedly unsexy.

* PsychoExGirlfriend: Implied from the title, but ultimately averted. Rebecca may be pretty fixated on Josh, but her problems with needing to be liked go back much further. If it wasn't Josh, it could have been pretty much anything.

* TookALevelInJerkass: Season 2 generally portrays her as being much more self-absorbed, abrasive and whiny than she was in season 1. Played with to a degree, as it's suggested that she's always been like this and the audience is only just now seeing it as a result of the ProtagonistCenteredMorality that surrounded season 1 starting to slip away.

* WeightWoe: Pretty regularly suggested to be self-conscious about her weight, to the point of calling herself "fatty" whenever she falls into one of her bouts of self pity. This is suggested to be the result of her mother's overly-critical parenting style.

* ImprobableAge: While it's not ''impossible'' for a person to be offered the position of junior partner at a high profile New York law firm barely into their twenties, it is certainly uncommon. This is one of the earliest indicators of Rebecca's exceptional intelligence, as well as her excessive devotion to things that interest her.

* HollywoodHomely: Subverted. Rebecca Bunch is gorgeous. Everyone acknowledges her as gorgeous except Rebecca. See above re: issues. And below. And on the main page.

* HelloAttorney: Watching Rebecca on TV when she's wearing a suit in court, [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer even Heather murmurs]] "I'd bang that gavel."

* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Not initially, but come season 2 she realizes Rebecca is a lost cause and is only making appointments with her to save up for a new kayak.

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: She agrees not to press charges against Rebecca and Heather after they broke into her office (while stoned) on the condition that Rebecca attends therapy.

* ThereAreNoTherapists: Averted -- she ''is'' the therapist. However, Rebecca never listens to her, so it's almost like she's not there.

** By Season 2's "When Will Josh and his Friend Leave Me Alone?", Paula and Scott's marriage is positively heartwarming.

* BrokenAce: a handsome Stanford graduate and member of a water polo team who in his 20s is already in charge of his own law firm...And has a crippling fear of letting his father down.

* BettyAndVeronica: Played with, in that she sees herself as the Betty and Valencia as the Veronica. Rebecca's quite nice and helpful, but so destructive to herself and everyone around her that she honestly competes with Valencia (very unpleasant) for the role of Veronica.

** Comically averted with his treatment of Maya, the new administrative assistant. In the staff meeting which he's called to announce that he's bisexual, he interrupts her attempt to introduce herself with "Maya, this is not the time! This is not about you, okay?" After he's finished his song:
