* RuleOfSymbolism: She is pretty much an AnthropomorphicPersonification of school life pressure. It is no coincidence that the monster of the story takes the form of a girl with top scores, no social life, no genitalia, and her makeup being her true flesh, i.e. the very model that the school enforces on the students. First it kills the mind of the victims, starting with their affection and then their capability of independent thinking, and eventually devours them when their body can endure no longer. The first chapter demonstrates that, from a bystander perspective, the Manticore's havoc is indistinguishable from students breaking down or running away from their stressful life.

Doberman misidentified as Mo Murder. Elaborated in the Never Trust A Trailer in the main page.

* AdaptationalBadass: In the first trailer for the 2019 anime, Sasaki is shown telekinetically throwing metal structures against an unidentified enemy, a power he doesn't have in the novels. Subverted because, in a case of NeverTrustATrailer, he doesn't have it in the anime proper either.Curiously enough, the "Mo Murder" in the trailer quite resembles Doberman, a character in the (untranslated) Repent Walpurgis saga who has the same typical SalaryMan appearance and metal-controlling power. The unidentified opponent also resembles Riki Tikki Tavi from the same story.
