* FreudianExcuse: When he was a child, his father murdered his mother in front of him. However, he still murdered twenty-three people ''before'' he got his powers, so it doesn't really stick.

** A number of characters who didn't become metahumans on Earth-1 (Al Rothstein, Eddie Slick, Linda Park, Caitlin Snow, Hunter Zolomon, Dante Ramon, Laurel Lance) were empowered, and some who had powers on Earth-1 don't have them here (Barry Allen, technically [[note]]His Earth-1 counterpart was also affected by the Particle Accelerator, but did not survive the mutation like he did.[[/note]] Shay Lamden).

* ExpendableAlternateUniverse: Deconstructed. They typically have this view towards the Earth-1 universe, which makes them remorseless about killing the Flash, and even their alternate selves, to get home.
** While the characters on Earth-1 certainly don't consider Earth-2 to be this, the writers seem to treat Earth-2 this way to some extent considering the number of counterparts killed off. The Earth-2 versions of Joe, Cisco, Ronnie, Stein, and Caitlin are all offed (mostly by Zoom) in a pretty short period of time.

Also, Jay deceived the main cast on multiple occasions, including the fact that he was SecretlyDying. It stops being ambiguous once it's revealed that he ''is'' Zoom, real name Hunter Zolomon. The Jay that died was a future version of Zoom -- a time remnant, if you will -- who was convinced by his past self to die as part of their plan.

* ArchEnemy: For Harry Wells and, by the end of Season Two, to Barry as well after Zoom murders Henry right in front of him in the same place Eobard killed his mother.

* AxCrazy: Zoom is a violent, sadistic maniac who has spent over two years wreaking havoc on Earth-2's Central City. "Versus Zoom" reveals that, before getting his powers, Hunter Zoloman was a serial killer with 23 bodies to his name. Getting his powers and abusing the Velocity drug just made him even worse.
** He's ''so'' AxCrazy that he thinks nothing of creating and killing copies of himself just to {{Troll}} Barry. And his copies ''agree'' to being murdered just for that.

While this ultimately proved to be [[ConsummateLiar bullshit]], Zoom is [[GeniusBruiser incredibly smart]] as he not only created the original Velocity 9 drug to enhance his powers, he also created a mask that will dampen a speedster from all his powers, and a DoomsdayDevice capable of destroying TheMultiverse.

* AdaptationalVillainy: In the comics, Hunter Zolomon was simply a man with bad luck turned supervillain. His father killed his mother before being killed by the police, and as a result, Hunter resolved to become a police officer to understand why this happened, and why villains do what they do. He later loses his wife and has his knee blown out due to a bad call, but only resolves to keep doing his job. He later is further crippled by Grodd and loses his ability to walk, and begs Wally West to use time travel to save his life. When Wally refuses, Hunter uses the Cosmic Treadmill to try to fix it himself; it literally blows up in his face and he gains superspeed, but the experience negatively affects his mind. Hunter resolves to become the second Reverse-Flash and make Wally a better superhero by making him experience tragedy. Even after he's defeated by Wally, he apologizes to him. In the show, Zoom is a monstrous psychopath who simply terrorizes people ForTheEvulz before and after becoming a speedster, long after his mother is killed and his father evidently dies in prison. He targets the Flash not to make him a better hero, but to steal his speed. He puts Barry through tragedy solely to hurt him and prove he can be as corrupt as he is. He decides in the finale to become an OmnicidalManiac, attemping to destroy all Earths, save for Earth-1, to satisfy his ego and bloodlust. Still, this ''is'' the Earth-2 version of Hunter Zolomon; the Earth-1 counterpart (who far as we know is just a normal civilian) averts this.

* CopKiller: He solidified his supervillain career by killing 15 cops on his earth. When he finally conquers Earth-1 Central City, he kills an entire SWAT team only leaving Cap. Singh, Joe and Barry alive.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: Zoom is black with blue lightning, unlike the Reverse Flash's yellow suit and red lightning. While Eobard Thawne was deeply nuanced and personally hated Barry, though his main goal was to get home and he wanted to make Barry faster so he could do so, Zoom is a (seeming) GenericDoomsdayVillain, a demon who has no personal enmity with the Flash other than he's another speedster and he wants Barry to be faster and stronger so he has more Speed Force for Zoom to eat. * GenericDoomsdayVillain: Zoom is characterized as little more than an "unstoppable demon" who wants to eliminate Barry and become faster, in contrast to the more manipulative and complex Eobard Thawne. Ultimately played with; he has been pretending to be Jay Garrick the whole time in order to manipulate everyone, has been deliberately invoking this trope as Zoom, and is shown to have suffered a similar childhood tragedy as Barry did. Once he cures himself, he invokes it further by trying that most cliche of villain plots -- TakeOverTheWorld, starting with Earth-1's Central City, for no other reason than to boost his ego.

** Zoom is basically an amalgamation of virtually every evil speedster up to and including the Reverse-Flash. He carries Hunter Zolomon's supervillain moniker and is ultimately revealed to indeed ''be'' Hunter, but his costume is implied to be inspired by both the Daniel West Reverse-Flash of the ''[[ComicBook/{{New52}} New Fifty-Two]]'' and Pollux from [[Series/TheFlash1990 the previous Flash series]]. On the other hand, his status as Jay Garrick's ArchEnemy belongs to The Rival, and his glowing look when in motion resembles The Rival post-possession of Max Mercury. Visually, he also takes after [[TheGrimReaper the Black Flash]], a resemblance that becomes even more pronounced when he's being dragged into the Speed Force by the Time Wraiths. His having blue streaks of lightning makes him similar to an Alternate Future Barry Allen who went off the deep end. Like Johnny Quick, he's an evil speedster from an alternate Earth. In terms of motivations, his obsession with speed resembles that of Savitar.

* TheSpook: He's a speedster who wants to kill off every other speedster. That pretty well sums up everything we know about him for most of the season. Even Jay, his ArchEnemy, has no idea who Zoom really is. It's heavily implied that Earth-2 Wells knows more about him, but he's not exactly forthcoming with information.

Given how many of Earth-2's residents are {{Evil Counterpart}}s to heroic figures from Earth-1, it's more akin to what the comics call Earth-3. Meanwhile, Earth-3 is the world where Jay Garrick, the real one, is from, and is more akin to Earth-2 in the comics.

* LightningBruiser: {{Pun}}s aside, he's literally described as the fastest speedster, and he's stronger than Barry and Eobard.

* ActionSurvivor: Not as {{Badass}} as his Earth-1 counterpart, but is willing to step into the action if his loved ones are in danger.

* {{Badass}}: Zoom is absolutely a badass, make no mistake. When he and Barry finally fight, he effortlessly pulls a CatchAndReturn on Barry's lightning bolt, then proceeds to brutally thrash Barry, breaking his back, and pulls a BulletCatch on Earth-2 Wells' dart and a full barrage from the CCPD -- one-handed, no less, while he's dragging a thrashed Barry around to show him off to Central City.

* {{Badass}}: One of the most powerful metahumans featured in the show, she can bring down an entire office building with her sonic cry. On top of that she can handle herself without her powers.

* TheBaroness: {{Badass}} ActionGirl? Check. Wears leather? Check. TallDarkAndSnarky AloofDarkHairedGirl? Check.

* AdaptationalIntelligence: Zig-zagged. He doesn't possess his comics counterpart's brilliance in the field of psychology, but he is much better at making long-term plans, and is merely TheSociopath instead of being completely detached from reality.
** He's also far more scientifically inclined than his comics counterpart, able to create his own speed drug, design a device to suppress another speedster's powers, and even [[OmnicidalManiac figuring out a way to destroy the multiverse]].

* AdaptationAngstUpgrade: This version of Hunter was raised in an OrphanageOfFear after his father killed his mother, as opposed to his comic version, who was college age when the aforementioned event occurred. Though he also lacks the TraumaCongaLine that comic Hunter went through afterwards.

* OmnicidalManiac: He clearly has zero regard for human life and takes pride in killing so many people, but he ''really'' hits this trope with his attempt to trick Barry into helping him destroy the entire multiverse save for Earth-1.

* AdaptationalBadass: Has a much more aggressive mindset that his comics counterpart. It helps that (or probably because of) he is a CompositeCharacter of many evil speedsters.
