* PrefersGoingBarefoot: She's usually barefoot, wearing ''very'' short and loose "socks" that leave her toes and heels bare and a pair of anklets. Subverted in the spin-off The Adventures of Mini-Goddess, where she actually wears shoes.

An engineering student at the Nekomi Institute of Technology and a member of the NIT Motor Club. He's below average height[[labelnote:†]] (160cm, or 5'3")[[/labelnote]] and kind of a doormat, often taken advantage of by his classmates. One day while forced to stay in his room taking calls for people, he accidentally dials the Goddess Relief Office and summons the goddess Belldandy, who says she will grant him one wish. Assuming she's part of an elaborate prank by his seniors, he wishes for her to stay by his side forever. They've been together ever since, and their relationship is the core of the series. Unfortunately for everyone, Keiichi isn't good at expressing his feelings.

Originally from Kushiro, a small town on the northern island of Hokkaido, Keiichi is a very skilled mechanic and an exceptional race driver. He is eventually bestowed the directorship of the Motor Club, which he subsequently passes on to Sora Hasegawa. At the point he was ''supposed'' to have graduated (but turned out to be one class short), he started working at the repair shop Whirlwind owned by the Motor Club's founder, Chihiro Fujimi. At some point after that, he picked up the stray class and finally graduated, though we never actually ''see'' him do so.
----
* AccidentalPervert: Every once in a while, Keiichi becomes one, which can be attributed to either pure accident or somebody who pulls the strings in order to make Belldandy jealous and dishearten her enough to leave Keiichi and go back to Heaven. Most of the time it's played for comedy, as Belldandy trusts Keiichi's loyalty to her. But when it's played seriously, it's played ''dead'' seriously, if Belldandy's jealousy storms are of any indication.
* BadassBiker: He's the best racer in Nekomi until Chihiro returns, especially when riding his bike with Belldandy on the sidecar.
* BadassNormal: During the Angel Eater arc, Keiichi [[spoiler:demonstrated that, thanks to having [[ThePowerOfLove received love]] from [[SupportingHarem multiple goddesses]], he is one of the few mortals capable of supporting an angel. And the guy pulls it off TWICE.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct:
** In the anime, Skuld realizes that she has this kind of relationship with Keiichi in the episode where she temporarily grows up. In the rest of the media, this is the way it goes whenever she's not mad at him. While he laments on the fact that Skuld is interrupting his love progress from time to time that doesn't stop him from treating Belldandy's sister like his own.
** In ''First End'', [[spoiler:Keiichi dies saving Megumi from a car accident]]. Peorth even argues that this is what drove him.
* BiggerIsBetterInBed: Implied in the TV series. When Mara first showed up and turned Keiichi into a scooter (for kicks) after Belldandy and Urd caught her, they made her give them the demonic password to turn Keiichi back to normal. When Keiichi came back... naked... Belldandy blushed bright red, while Urd just looked down and grinned with an interested "Hmmm...". Given [[TheTease Urd's personality]], it's likely if Keiichi didn't have one of these, she'd have poked fun at him for it.
* BrotherSisterIncest: Played with but ultimately subverted. While under the effects of a botched potion made by Peorth, [[ButtMonkey poor old Keiichi]] has not only his sister Megumi crawling all over him, but Skuld and Urd as well... and Peorth herself in the anime. [[StatusQuoIsGod Naturally, once Bell steps in and nullifies the potion, everybody's back to normal.]]
* ButtMonkey: Occasionally, usually whenever something created by Urd, Skuld, Mara, Tamiya, Otaki, or Chihiro is involved. Many chapters in the third quarter of the manga have multiple shots of Keiichi sporting looks of pain or horror.
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: Every time Keiichi has naughty thoughts about Belldandy, someone notices and promptly calls him out on it... if he doesn't do it himself.
* CannotSpitItOut: For most of the series, he can't gather the courage to properly confess to Belldandy.
* ChasteHero: Even though he lives with a beautiful goddess, he barely shows lust towards her and his advances towards her are fairly innocent. This is partly InTheBlood – his father Keima is a severe gynophobe[[labelnote:•]] (that's the technical term for "afraid of women")[[/labelnote]]. It's subverted towards the end of the manga with the reveal that [[spoiler:Heaven altered Keiichi's mind so that he wouldn't lust after Belldandy and she knew the entire time, only removing the mental block on Keiichi's carnal desires when she kisses him to save both of their lives.]]
* ChastityCouple: With Belldandy. They live together and are obviously in love, but they don't go past the holding hands phase for a long time. [[spoiler:Turns out this was caused by Heaven's machinations, since Keiichi's sexual lust was magically suppressed to maintain the separation between divine beings and mortals even in the face of the contract that bound Belldandy to him. Belldandy removes the mental block when she kisses Keiichi, finally allowing them to be more physically intimate.]]
* ChickMagnet: Once [[MagneticHero Belldandy]] stays with him, all the ladies show some interest in him at some point, except Chihiro. [[AvertedTrope It's not]] that [[HaremGenre kind of series]] though.
* CovertPervert: He has a porn stash in his room. ''Everyone'' (except Belldandy) knows about it and where it is – in the back of the second drawer of his desk – and pokes fun at him for it.
* DeadpanSnarker: As the OnlySaneMan, he has moments where he lets rip.
* {{Determinator}}: Able to break out of situations where he shouldn't be able to out of sheer will and [[ThePowerOfLove love for Belldandy]] (such as when he was [[spoiler:possessed by the Lord of Terror]]). Also implied in one episode/chapter that this is how he's such a good racer - he trains constantly.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness:
** He is seen smoking in his first appearance. This habit vanishes once Belldandy appears.
** His mechanic skills are not apparent at first, it took Otaki's interference to repair his busted sidecar in the first chapter.
** He is initially more dishevelled and less level-headed; he's also wimpier and even more of a pushover. The art evolution also made his features softer and gave him a neater appearance.
* EmotionallyTongueTied: He has trouble just saying "I love you" to Belldandy, much to everyone else's consternation.
* FamedInStory: Keiichi has at the very least local fame at NIT, much to his surprise. If Megumi is famous herself, it's partly due to Keiichi's exploits as well.
* ForgottenAnniversary: Incidentally subverted. He wasn't planning on it but he happened to [[spoiler:get married to Belldandy on his own birthday]]. No chance of forgetting that one.
* FunWithAcronyms: Gives himself the nickname of K-1 (Kei-ichi).
* GirlOnGirlIsHot: Seeing Urd deep-kiss Belldandy (to remove a throat virus) caused him to [[HeroicBSOD bluescreen]].
* GiveGeeksAChance: A motorcycle geek who gets the girl of everyone's dreams – of course, everyone else wonders just how the hell that even happened.
* GuileHero: Whenever he's in a dangerous situation, Keiichi's ability to think on the fly has saved him and the Goddesses multiple times over.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Belldandy. He's a human and she's a goddess.
* LivingLegend: A considerably tame example. Keiichi is famous at NIT for his exploits with the Motor Club and for his relationship with Belldandy, as the Professors Kakuta point out.
* MagicContractRomance: With Belldandy. The wish he asked of her was for her to always be with him, leaving them magically bounded. As a result, they fall in love.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: With Belldandy. He's a human with a regular lifespan and she's a goddess who is seemingly TheAgeless.
* MistakenForCheating: Happens to him a lot – either accidentally, via magical mishap, or if another woman tries to actively pursue him. Fortunately he only has eyes for Belldandy. ''Unfortunately'', Belldandy's jealousy storms exist.
* NiceGuy: He's a kindhearted guy who always wants to help others.
* OnlySaneMan: Ends up having to play straight man to humans, gods, and demons alike.
* PrefersGoingBarefoot: In the manga, it is very unusual to see him wearing socks or slippers inside his house, even preferring on some occasions to keep his jacket on but not his socks, and in earlier chapters, he never wore them with shoes going outside. Subverted in the anime and the movie where he almost always wears socks.
%%* RidiculouslyAverageGuy: As the result of a mild retcon.
* SeenItAll: He's able to take pretty much ''everything'' in stride. Interestingly, this isn't because of the shenaningans with the Goddesses, but because of those of the ''Motor Club'': when he first met Belldandy by having her emerge from a mirror he quickly concludes is a prank from Tamiya, giving an early hint at just how ''crazy'' they are.
* SuperDrowningSkills: Until he met the Lorelei, Keiichi didn't know how to swim. To put things in perspective, it took the accidental magical influence of a race of mermaids for him to be able to swim; he was ''that'' bad at it.
* TakingAdvantageOfGenerosity: He always draws the shortest stick in this respect, as people around him, friends included, tend to abuse his good nature. This is one of the reasons Belldandy loves him, as he does not mind bearing the weight.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: He has somewhat gotten used to the many complications that come packaged with living with Belldandy and her two sisters. In the manga, he says that dealing with all the weirdness is a small price to pay if it means he can be with Belldandy.
* UnluckyEverydude: Keiichi started out as this, before eventually being developed into more of a NiceGuy. It would be difficult not to become nicer under the constant scrutiny of a divine being, though.
* VitriolicBestBuds:
** He is very much this with [[BadassMindsThinkAlike Chihiro]]. She's basically the older sister he never had.
** With Skuld, whenever she's not mad at him.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Comes part and parcel with having 3 goddesses living with you, not to mention [[spoiler:having the leaders of both Heaven AND Hell as in-laws by the end of the manga.]] Jeesh, guy's got it kinda rough.
* YouMustBeCold: Subverted. Keiichi has a great tolerance to cold because he is from Hokkaido.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KikukoInoue (JP), Creator/AkemiOkamura (JP–Mini-Goddess 1-13), Creator/YumiTouma (JP–OVA [-[young]-]), Creator/MioShionoiri (JP–Movie [-[young]-]); Juliet Cesario (EN–OVA), Creator/BridgetHoffman (EN–Movie, Mini-Goddess), Chloe Thornton (EN–Movie [-[young]-]), Eileen Stevens (EN–TV), Circe Luna (LA Spanish-OVA)

A goddess who ends up contractually bound to Keiichi Morisato after he accidentally dials the Goddess Relief Office. Ever since, Belldandy lives with Keiichi at the Tariki-Hongan Temple in Nekomi City, Chiba Prefecture (near Tokyo). She actually has the power to cancel the contract at any time, but she won't, saying Keiichi is a special person in her heart and that her purpose is to make him happy.

Belldandy is kind, patient, and warm, not only to Keiichi but to everyone without exception. She can easily sense other people's emotions, and tries her best to be empathetic to all those around her. However, even though Belldandy tries her best to be as kind as possible, it is revealed that she's actually incredibly insecure about her own emotions, particularly if it involves Keiichi in any way. If she sees any human girl pursue him, she'll become jealous and her subconscious rage will precipitate a power-leak that affects everything in the immediate vicinity, referred to as a "[[{{Yandere}} jealousy storm]]".

Belldandy is licensed as a Goddess First-Class (Unlimited), and as such is highly skilled. Her power is so great, in fact, that she is required to wear a special earring on her left ear that constantly seals the full brunt of her magical strength. Belldandy's angel is Holy Bell; her elemental attribute is wind. Like all angels, Holy Bell augments Belldandy's magical powers when called upon, and like all angels, she also reflects her master's current state.
----
* AllLovingHeroine: Comes with the territory of being a First-Class Goddess. In her case, "all-loving" goes so far as to include inanimate objects.
* AlternativeContinuity: The mythical Norn Verðandi is a Jotun giantess and Valkyrie unrelated to the Aesir (the Norse pantheon). Though there are three main Norns, there are also numerous minor Norns that govern the fate of mortals.
%%* ApocalypseMaiden: In TheMovie.
* BashSiblings: When racing with bike and sidecar, Belldandy and Keiichi are this. Their synergy must be seen to be believed. Sadly for fans of the anime, this only shows up in the manga... and one scene early in the movie.
* BeautifulSingingVoice: First heard when she sings with her angel Holly Bell to repair the shrine. It's so beautiful that, in a singing contest Sayoko had rigged to try and humiliate her, the judges give her a 100/10 score.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: It's revealed near the end of the manga that she'd been monitoring Keiichi for years and had developed feelings for him even before meeting him face to face when she descended to Earth to fulfill his wish. However, she did not expect to get stuck away from heaven due to said wish. She was upset about this early in the manga and it showed, though it worked for the better eventually.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She is the sweetest person you'll ever meet... unless you piss her off, ''especially'' if you try to harm Keiichi.
** While most of the early examples of this is comical in nature due to her expressions, the first serious example of this is in the manga when Keiichi and Sora are trapped inside the Motor Club room with a love potion-infused lunch box. Knowing where the love potion comes from, she confronted Urd with them with a DeathGlare that is enough to make her older sister [[TheDreaded of all people]] to tremble in fear.
** Don't make her jealous. If she's in ClingyJealousGirl mode, she subconsciously causes small explosions and freak weather changes.
** Oh, and don't threaten her either. Toshiyuki Aoshima tried to rape her once, and this got him tossed through a wall. [[BlowYouAway With a tornado.]]
* BlowYouAway: Her elemental affinity is wind.
* BreakTheCutie: In the movie. [[spoiler:She is so traumatized by Celestine's actions that her memory has to be erased.]]
* BroughtDownToNormal: She's not physically as strong or coordinated when she doesn't have her powers; she even pines at not being able to ''sing''. It is not outright stated if this extends to her preternatural capacity to excel in all earthly tasks, though it's implied. In hindsight, she argues that she would not like being as limited as a human.
* CannotTellALie: One of the restrictions of being a first class goddess.
** However, just because she can't lie, it doesn't mean she has to tell the truth. She can and has withheld information... [[spoiler:like in the very late manga where it's revealed that she knew about Heaven altering Keiichi's mind so he would not desire Belldandy sexually. This was the path of least resistance when she bound Keiichi in contract, as the Judgement Gate was a considerably riskier alternative that could have meant losing each other forever. All for the sake of being with him.]]
* ChastityCouple: With Keiichi. They're practically a couple, even living together, but neither of them actively tries to get more physically affectionate than hands holding and hugs. [[spoiler:Turns out Belldandy put Keiichi in a restrictive contract that made him unable to lust for her for years, because that would avoid calling the Gate of Judgement and the risk it carries of losing him forever. She was okay with this due to the lack of risks until she had to cancel the contract to save their lives, thus the Gate of Judgement was immediately called.]]
* ChildProdigy: As Velsper found out when they [[spoiler:performed their Doublet ceremony]], she could easily counter anything that he could throw at her when he was trying to prove her lowly compared to him.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She really is kind, compassionate, and warm, but also very possessive of Keiichi. She won't say or do anything, but just be prepared for magical feedback that can cause anything from minor explosions to freak weather changes, caused by her subconscious mind. She will ''only'' act if anyone directly threatens Keiichi.
* CompellingVoice: Even in a world where most magic is based on song, Belldandy stands out for having this. It's so powerful that when performing at a karaoke tournament to support the NIT Motor Club, even ''Mara'' (who had been planning to take advantage of the event by converting the song into a demonic spell) was overcome by the feelings of bliss that ensnared the crowd while she sang. So much so that she joined everyone else to sign up for club membership.
* ConditionalPowers:
** Belldandy's powers and the access clearance that she can attain entirely depend on her licensure; she still has her powers, but the license itself grants her different levels of what she can do with them. The license is also symbolic, as it serves as proof that she has the self-control and dexterity to wield said powers responsibly.
** As shown in the reality of Creator/YumiTouma's book ''First End'', Belldandy's (and other goddesses') capacity to affect the nature and the environment around her entirely depends on the condition that she doesn't violate universal laws; in other words, nature itself obeys her authority as a goddess as long as she respects what it entails. In reciprocity, nature can refuse to obey her if it deems that she violated said laws ([[spoiler:like the fact that she tried to override Keiichi's death by restarting the universe]]). It's fair to mention that no said instance occurred in the manga itself.
* DeathGlare: When anyone threatens Keiichi, she tends to give this. [[spoiler:She can even scare her father with it. And her father is Tyr, the Almighty.]]
* DePower: In several occasions:
** She becomes tremendously vulnerable when she gets sick;
** Velsper renders her powerless in order to destroy time;
** Hild removes Holy Bell from her in order to force a familiar inside;
** Eihwaz drains her power through a series of rigged rooms, though she ultimately fails; Hagal then drains her completely in the end;
** Subverted in ''First End''. [[spoiler:She finds herself powerless once she and her sisters restart the universe to keep Keiichi alive; she tries to heal an ancient tree that doesn't heed to her spells, but she eventually realizes that she's not actually powerless, only that nature won't obey her because she committed the sin of breaking the rules of reality by restarting the universe.]]
* DissonantSerenity and TheStoic: Through most situations where another person or even Goddess would be pulling their hair. Even when angered she doesn't betray a sneer.
* TheDitz: Comes off this way to people due to her trusting nature and unfamiliarity with the human world.
** For some reason she is even more of a ditz when in her [[FunSize mini-form]].
* TheDreaded: The other goddesses and Mara are ''terrified'' at the idea of her getting enraged, to the point that a simple DeathGlare from her has once paralized Urd, Skuld and Peorth through fear.
* DrunkOnMilk: One 12oz/355mL can of cola and she's hammered.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: Her first goddess outfit is heavily Indian-esque, with a forehead marking to match. Said marking also changed sizes often to reflect her emotions.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: In the manga. The {{animated adaptation}}s, produced years later, use her final characterization.
** Originally relied on red lightning magic with no traces of [[BlowYouAway wind]] at all. See her entry for ShockAndAwe below.
** Although still friendly, she didn't really think much of Keiichi at first, often rolling her eyes at how pathetic he was. Of course this changed quickly once the contract was in place, but that's more because his HiddenDepths and NiceGuy nature grew on her.
** She was very outwardly emotional to the point of easily picking fights with Urd early on (granted, Urd means well but [[WithFriendsLikeThese is very unpleasant to be around at the beginning]]). It tones down when Skuld appears in the manga, as Belldandy's younger sister needs a role model to look up to. [[BewareTheNiceOnes She can still show anger]], but it is only reserved for situations where she is heavily provoked.
* FamilyRelationshipSwitcheroo: With the way Urd and Skuld behave, she might as well be the oldest sister out of the three.
* {{Fauxreigner}}: Most people that meet her think that she is a Westerner, and her mannerisms and customs are Scandinavian; early in the manga, Belldandy does admit that she's mostly familiar with Scandinavian cuisine until she begins to try more endemic dishes. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] due to her being a Norse goddess.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Early in the manga when Belldandy and Keiichi first kiss, Keiichi is surprised at the unseemly fact that from nowhere thousands of flowers just sprouted around them; though he thinks nothing of it at the time, [[spoiler:during the Niflheim arc Belldandy uses the same tactic to be able to hide from Hagal and it's later revealed that the flowers are a reaction to their contract. As part of this contract, the System/Ultimate Force renders Keichi unable to lust for Belldandy for years until the contract was dissolved at that very moment.]]
* FormalCharactersUseKeigo: Belldandy uses extremely polite speech patterns in the original Japanese, right down to using the highly formal pronoun [[UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns "watakushi"]]. It complements her YamatoNadeshiko traits very well.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: And some unliving things as well. See MachineEmpathy below.
* GoGetterGirl: According to Urd and Skuld, Belldandy just collected Goddess licenses as a hobby before she met Keiichi. To put things into perspective, she is a Norn who also has the combative ability to have earned a Valkyrie's Silver Wings. This is part of the reason why Skuld never understood why Belldandy [[spoiler:settled for a lowly mortal down at the Earth when she used to be so much more in Heaven]]. Unpredictably, she excels in all earthly activities too.
* HairAntennae: Typically 4-6, but varies wildly in the early manga.
* HairColorDissonance: Belldandy's hair color varies over time, [[DependingOnTheArtist depending on when Fujishima colors her]]. Started silvery-purple in the manga which slowly turned grey and eventually settled with light brown while black and white are reserved for the majority of Heaven flashbacks. The anime invariably makes her hair dirty-blonde.
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:She goes catatonic before the events of the movie when she learns that her mentor Celestine turned traitor; it's so bad that they have to erase the memory for her to begin functioning again]].
* HomeSweetHome: She worked hard enough as a goddess for most of her life to earn herself a respite on Earth without anyone batting an eye in Heaven. With Keiichi, they both built a home to live in and surrounded themselves with loyal friends and family. Damn anyone else if they don't let her go all "domestic".
* ImpossiblyCoolClothes: '''Everything she wears'''. She'd look gorgeous even dressed as the Michelin Man.
* ImprobableHairstyle: As a goddess, it's understandable that her hair is immaculate and impeccable; her ponytail, however, is idiosyncratic on its own and it's extremely rare to see it undone.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: She defines the concept of a pure-hearted person. The definitive moment would probably be the Angel Eater arc. [[spoiler:Attempting to turn her evil by replacing her angel with a demonic familiar resulted in the familiar being purified and becoming (functionally) an angel... at least until Velsper got ahold of it.]]
** One of Hagal's stated goals was to [[spoiler:completely drain Belldandy's goddess energy and replace it with demon energy, getting around the "incorruptible" part and making Belldandy herself a demon]].
* TheIngenue: So sincere, naïve, and nice that it ''hurts''. One demon even comments that her niceness is a potent spiritual attack, and there are plenty of examples in the manga where it's been weaponized. It's also shown to be a method of deflection.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Only in the anime; in the manga her eyes are sorta greyish, [[CurtainsMatchTheWindow like her hair]].
* InsecureLoveInterest: Despite being a goddess, she often asks Keiichi if she's good enough to be with him, usually if she suspects another woman is getting too friendly with him. And he constantly reminds her that she is. [[spoiler:In chapter 285 this is revealed to be partly because Belldandy was aware of Heaven's manipulation of Keiichi's mind when the contract was first made.]]
* InterspeciesRomance: With Keiichi. She's a goddess and he's a human.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: She is an incredible fighter who is always immaculately dressed. Even her battle suit could pass for a night dress.
* LadyOfWar: She's gentle, graceful, and uses a staff as a weapon. Her angel even uses a bow and arrow.
* LegFocus: Belldandy is not nearly as showy as other girls in the manga, but her immaculate legs are shown to be the feature that Keiichi most admires and ogles on her.
* LetsGetDangerous: Whenever she removes the earring that seals her powers (like in the Lord Of Terror story), someone is going to come to a bad end. The land around her ''literally distorts'' because she's got so much power at her disposal and is about to use it.
* LonelyAtTheTop: Being the tenet of support for Urd and Skuld means that they don't play with her the way they play with each other. She's actually jealous of the relationship between her sisters.
* LostInTranslation: Her name is supposed to be [[Myth/NorseMythology Verðandi]], like the Norn she's named after. Toren Smith, the original English translator of the manga, was well aware of the Norse elements and the "correct" spelling – in fact he wrote a short essay explaining it to readers – but opted to use Fujishima's incorrect transliteration anyway.
* LoveBeforeFirstSight: [[spoiler:Belldandy tells Keiichi she has been watching him (as part of her job) most of his life, and was in love with him before they ever met.]]
* LovedByAll: Belldandy is almost universally loved. Her beauty, grace, and kindness make her instantly popular with the student body of Nekomi Tech (minus Sayoko), including the members of the motor club like Otaki and Tamiya. Even Marller, a demon and one of Bell's nemesis, is on genuinely friendly terms with her, willing to have meals with her and do karaoke together when they end up at a hot springs together. Even Banpei, a robot programmed without emotions, somehow falls in love with her.
* MachineEmpathy: This is how she deals with machines; she talks to them like an understanding friend and fixes their problems. As she stated, "Every last nut and bolt is like a friend to me". This is also the reason why Banpei is so attached to her despite not having an emotion program.
* MagicalGirlfriend: Contractually and doing a really damn good job at it.
* MagicContractRomance: With Keiichi. They're bound together because he wished Belldandy would be together with him and they fall in love as a result.
* MagneticHero: Attracts others to her with her compassion and inner steel. It is even implied several times in the series that she is the one who holds the main character group together.
* MartialPacifist: She's ridiculously powerful, but prefers domestic work and singing. The "pacifist" part disappears late in the manga when she and (especially) Keiichi's lives are in danger.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: With Keiichi. She's an immortal goddess and he's a human.
* MeaningfulName: Like her sisters. she's named after a Norse Norn, in her case Verdandi who represents the present.
* NeatFreak: She's ''very'' obsessed with cleaning and putting things in order. This reflects in her appearance, her approach towards everyday life, and her problem-solving skills.
* NeverGetsDrunk: She could drink a distillery's worth of booze and not even hiccup. But keep her away from the [[DrunkOnMilk cola]].
* NiceGirl: She's a sweet, kindhearted, caring, helpful, and polite goddess.
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** Before Skuld showed up, Belldandy and Urd fought almost as often as Urd and Skuld would later do. She was also prone to wacky face faults back then, something that would usually be out-of-character for her to do as the resident YamatoNadeshiko.
** When it comes to racing, her competitive streak rivals Keiichi's.
** In ''First End'', Belldandy [[spoiler:nearly destroys the universe to keep Keiichi alive]].
* PacifistWind: Belldandy's magical affinity is to wind and her defining trait is her abundant kindness and gentleness to virtually everyone she meets. She is such an exemplar of IncorruptiblePurePureness that a demon has commented that her kindness alone is a potent spiritual attack. She rarely will be an aggressor or even use her superior magic abilities offensively even when provoked...unless [[BewareTheNiceOnes someone threatens Keiichi or gets her jealous]]. Compare her to her much more hot-headed and aggressive sisters, Skuld and Urd who have water and fire & lightning affinities, respectively.
* {{Paperworkaholic}}: Belldandy legitimately enjoys working at Heaven's Celestial Bureaucracy, as opposed to Urd and Skuld, who see it as a chore.
* ParentalSubstitute: Due to the huge age difference, their busy mother, and Belldandy's status as TheReliableOne, Skuld sees Belldandy as more like a mother than a big sister, which is part of why she is ''not okay'' with Keiichi "stealing" Bell away from her.
* ParrotExposition: Especially in the anime, she occasionally repeats whatever Keiichi is surprised about to reflect her [[IncorruptiblePurePureness purity]] and [[TheIngenue cluelessness on earthly customs]].
* PersonOfMassDestruction: When she gets jealous, she causes storms, and wishes that she grants can destroy the entire world - in theory. (In practice, anyone who ''would'' wish for the world's destruction won't get a wish.)
%%* PhysicalGoddess:
%%* PluckyGirl
* ThePollyanna: Invoked. She is very optimistic and positive, but she is not above worrying and she has clearly defined limits to her patience. She's very difficult to move, but she is most definitely not invulnerable.
* PowerLimiter: As with most high-level deities, Belldandy wears power-limiting jewelry... namely a double-clasp earring. [[LetsGetDangerous It's a bad day for whoever is on her receiving end on the rare occasion she removes it.]]
* PrefersGoingBarefoot: She's usually barefoot, wearing ''very'' short and loose "socks" that leave her toes and heels bare and a pair of anklets.
* PromotionToParent: Ansuz, due to her obligations, was never around Belldandy or Skuld, so their raising depended largely on their own devices and the use of mentors. As such, Belldandy practically raised Skuld like her daughter, which is why her little sister is so protective of her.
* RebelliousPrincess: At Tariki-hongan Temple, Belldandy is the only resident goddess who doesn't even show hints of doing any research or any intention of continuing her duties in Heaven and has been called out numerous times on this.
* ReflectiveTeleportation: Belldandy can use mirrors to traverse long distances.
* TheReliableOne: Is the most constantly responsible among the three sisters.
* ShockAndAwe: [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness Early in the manga]], where Belldandy is more [[HotBlooded outwardly emotional]], red lightning orbs are prominent in her magic. Victims of Bell's lightning magic includes the Earth Spirit, [[MagicMisfire Keiichi]], Urd, Sayoko, and Aoshima on separate occasions. This disappears once Mara is introduced and she started using wind magic instead.
* SingleTargetSexuality: She hasn't felt attraction for anyone but Keiichi.
* SpyCatsuit: Her riding leathers for when she's racing, all of which have some form of heart motif.
* TechnicalPacifist: Belldandy is only ever reluctant to do violence, even wanting to ''talk down'' an EldritchAbomination. Generally, the only time she'll actually use those immense powers she has for fighting is if someone threatens her sisters or Keiichi. Even then her combat is, at worst, of the "surprising what you can live through" variety. The rules under which gods and demons live make this pretty much mandatory for them both. "Sealing" and various harassment are okay, but killing just takes out someone on your own side too.
* TheThreeFacesOfEve: The calm, compassionate, and domestic Belldandy, goddess of the present, represents the wife.
* TotallyTrustingLoveInterest: It's a common occurrence for someone to pull Keiichi into a compromising situation, but Belldandy always believes him when Keiichi explains that it's NotWhatItLooksLike.
** It happens multiple times with her older sister Urd:
*** On one occasion, he doesn't even need to explain -- [[spoiler:when Belldandy finds Urd naked in the bath with him, her immediate response is "Why didn't you tell me so I could join you?"]], prompting another character to say that Belldandy must be stupid to trust Keiichi so blindly. But considering that Keiichi can't even make moves on the eminently willing Belldandy, it's quite reasonable.
*** On another occasion, Belldandy finds Keiichi in another compromising situation with Urd and instead of staying around to talk, she runs away crying, not because she believes Keiichi is cheating on her. In fact, she outright states that she trusts him. But she now believes Urd is in love with Keiichi, and she's torn about taking Urd's "love" from her.
** Belldandy once defended Keiichi from a manufactured compromising situation by saying "It's true! He doesn't have the guts to do that!" She realized how bad that sounded and tried to correct herself but just made it worse. Specifically, she corrected herself by saying, "My Keiichi...isn't enough of a man to--" This results in the {{unsound effect}} of "[[DiggingYourselfDeeper Digging the hole deeper]]."
** Urd weaponizes the trust at one point, manipulating Keiichi into groping another woman in front of Belldandy and trusting that Belldandy's jealousy of that other woman getting Keiichi's affections would be subconsciously channeled into ''explosions'', powerful enough to defeat an attacker they were facing.
** Belldandy has flat-out stated that she will ''always'' believe Keiichi -- even if he's lying.
* TurnOutLikeHisFather: Hild argues that Belldandy's attitude and demeanor reminds her so much of Tyr that she finds it unnerving. This is one of the reasons Hild is both fond and resentful of Belldandy at the same time, and why she picks on her in particular.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Several characters comment that Belldandy is terrifying when something threatens or demeans her boyfriend. They're not lying.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Most of the otherwordly or supernatural events that happen in the series are due to her constant presence on Earth. She argues that she's effectively creating an imbalance just by being there, which consequentially causes the creatures from Niflheim to try to compensate or drive her away from Earth. And then, Urd and Skuld showed up too.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Despite being a ''[[ButNotTooForeign Norse]]'' Goddess, Belldandy embodies this trope to the fullest – sweet-tempered, loving and devoted, gentle touch of inner iron, there's even a picture of her in a kimono on Images Links.

[[caption-width-right:315:[[labelnote:Click here to see Urd in the TV Anime]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/urd_megami.png[[/labelnote]]]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YumiTouma (JP); Lanelle Markgraf (EN–OVA), Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn (EN–Movie), Creator/WendeeLee (EN–Mini-Goddess), Shannon Conley (EN–TV), Sylvia Garcel (LA Spanish-OVA)

Belldandy's older half-sister, and the second Goddess to appear to Keiichi. Urd ranks as a Goddess Second-Class, Limited license (management category), similar to her youngest sister Skuld. She is the Yggdrasil System Administrator and Manager. Though she is much more powerful than her sisters, she is not a First-Class Goddess for several reasons. Urd shares a common father with her younger sisters, but has a different mother, the [[{{Satan}} Daimakaicho, Hild]]. Because of this, Urd is a hybrid of Goddess and Demon, reflected in the half-white/half-black appearance of her Angel, World of Elegance. Her elemental attribute is fire and lightning.

Urd fancies herself a [[LoveGoddess Goddess of Love]], so she comes to Earth to spur Keiichi onward with love potions and well-meaning (but deceitful) advice. However, as punishment for deserting her post and for using her powers on Earth without authorization, The Almighty banishes her from Heaven until further notice. After being allowed to go back, she decides to stay on Earth instead.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Her goddess outfit is dark blue in most manga illustrations and the OVA, but in the TV series and the movie it is purple.
* AlchemyIsMagic: To reflect her status as the Norn of the Past, Urd is shown to be a talented potion maker. Justified because many cultures in the past began experimenting with alchemy.
* TheAlcoholic: Justified. Alcohol is her main source of energy on Earth.
* AntagonisticOffspring: A mild example towards Hild. Deep down, though, Urd does love her.
* BigBreastPride: She's VERY proud of her large chest, to the point of having an "if you've got it, flaunt it" mentality and being occasionally accused of being a hooker. She even goes so far as to tease Skuld about it... never mind that poor Skuld is physically a kid 99% of the time.
* BigSisterInstinct: Frequently pops up from time to time whenever Belldandy and Skuld are in danger. She is wiling to risk her life for her younger sisters.
* BornOfHeavenAndHell: She's part Goddess and part Demon. The mixed breeding is why her angel has both white and black wings and hair, which startled Urd when she first summoned her. She doesn't have any issue overall with the residents of Heaven and Hell, since she is loved by her sisters, Mara still considers her a friend, and her mother still loves her. Though, the last one she won't admit for fear of becoming a demon herself.
* BrilliantButLazy: Urd's inherent powers are potentially leagues above those of her sisters and possibly any other deity except The Almighty and Hild (her parents), but she prefers to hang out with her siblings to watch over them and have some fun instead.
* BrokenBird: Due to her heritage. See NonhumanHumanoidHybrid, though.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Her large chest is a big part of her sex appeal and why she's such a DudeMagnet.
* CannotSpitItOut: Cannot express any feelings of affection for her [[{{Satan}} mother]], in case her soul gets charmed by the demons. It's shown that Urd indeed loves Hild ''very'' much, and is proud to no end of being her daughter.
* CannotTellALie: Averted! Part of the reason Urd refuses to become a first-class goddess is [[spoiler:she believes that it's important that she retain the ability to tell a lie to protect those she loves]]. She has such a reputation for lying that even Belldandy can see through her.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: When Urd first appears in the manga, she tries to rape Keiichi ([[DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale which is played for comedy]]) in order to "advance" his knowledge of sex – her intent was to make him less fearful of approaching intimacy with her sister. She is also shown to be outright mean-spirited towards Skuld (who isn't a BrattyHalfPint during her first manga appearance). Post Volume 6, Fujishima softened her up quite a bit and made her less of an "Evil Big Sister" and more of a "[[CoolBigSis Cool Big Sister]]" character. To reflect this, his art style changed to make her less mean and jerky-looking.
* CloudCuckoolander: Urd's logic on how engines work can be a little bit off; in "Mystical Engine" she believes that they are powered by trolls. [[spoiler:Turns out TheCuckoolanderWasRight several pages later.]]
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Keiichi brings Urd and Skuld an extra TV so they stop going at each other's throats, completely missing the fact that it's not the TV that they like as much as competing with each other.
* ConsummateLiar: She is so good at lying that she [[spoiler:refuses to be promoted to a first class goddess so that she can use those talents to protect her beloved ones and pair Keiichi and Belldandy together.]]
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: How Urd likes to deal with people, particularly [[BrattyHalfPint Skuld]] and [[{{Jerkass}} Aoshima]].
* CoolBigSis: Only develops into this in later adaptations and manga chapters. In the movie she's much more mature than average.
* CostumeEvolution: Wears fingerless gloves. Much later they get swapped out for regular gloves.
* DaddysGirl: Subverted. Being the daughter of the Daitenkaicho and the Daimakaicho has brought her very little advantage, though her relationship with her father is implied to be the key to her being out of trouble in spite of her mistakes (though this extends to Belldandy and Skuld too). One of the problems she faced early on in her life was that, as a half-goddess half-demon, she was seen as a potential liability and given very little credit for her achievements, so she only found consolation with her sisters and no one else.
* DeathGlare: Another of the things she inherited from her [[{{Satan}} mom]].
* DividedDeity: Urd gets split into Goddess and Demon halves, with the former acting much more like her kindly sister Belldandy and the latter more like her {{Jerkass}} mother (not to mention Demon-Urd taking the {{Stripperiffic}} outfits of regular-Urd to extremes). They eventually realize that neither Urd is the true Urd and recombine.
* TheDreaded: Chrono nervously remembers Urd as "The Exchanger Of Goals And Means" and "Heaven's 2nd Class Goddess Of Destruction". This carries overtones of an ominous reputation that Urd seems to have in the heavenly ranks.
* DrunkOnTheDarkSide: The times Urd fully accessed her demonic magic caused... problems.
* DudeMagnet: As per her role as MsFanservice. Urd once caused a squadron of police cars to drive after her once they caught a glimpse of her [[LegFocus impressive legs]] while she was riding a motorcycle in a high-slit dress.
* TheExile: She is banished from Heaven for abandoning her post and using her powers on Earth without prior authorization.
* FamilyRelationshipSwitcheroo: As indicated in Belldandy's entry above, Urd doesn't act like she's the oldest out of the three. She exhibits many second child traits and stereotypes, especially the rebellious aspects.
* FightingSpirit: Summoned a muscular genie to shoot rubber bands for her in the Great Rubber Band War against [[GadgeteerGenius Skuld]]'s [[TankGoodness wooden tank]] and [[GreenThumb Peorth's makeshift vine railguns]]. There's also the snowman she created in the OVA.
* {{Foil}}:
** Urd and Skuld are banes to one another and will spend every waking hour trying to one-up and upset each other in every way possible; they do this so much that it makes Belldandy jealous.
** She is this to Hagal. Urd is Hild's natural daughter who cannot express love or admiration for her mother for fear of becoming fully demonic; Hagal is Hild's adoptive daughter who loves Hild unconditionally and is wholly demonic through and through.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Many characters commented that Urd acted more like a demon than a goddess before her heritage was discovered.
* FountainOfYouth: For one episode (three manga chapters), due to Yggdrasil's system malfunction right after the Lord Of Terror arc.
* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: Played with. Urd is the Beautiful Sister by default, but she is quite snarky sometimes and no intellectual slouch herself (unless machines are involved). She also tries to hook Keiichi and Belldandy together while Skuld tries to keep the two apart.
* GoodBadGirl: She's tried getting Keichi to be more assertive with Belldandy by getting him to have sex with her [[spoiler:even though she has full knowledge of the restrictions imposed on Keiichi's lust towards Belldandy; it seemed that she did it in the hope that the contract would be broken by doing so, which instead lasted until Belldandy lifted it]].
* GoodIsNotSoft: Even when split into her goddess and demon selves, Goddess!Urd still strikes Keiichi with a thunderbolt for staring at her during a PantyShot (courtesy of Skuld who stamped a marking on her backside to differentiate Goddess!Urd from Demon!Urd)
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: Her default outfits in the anime are mostly of this color.
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: Can at the very least, say "I love you" in multiple languages.
* HairTriggerTemper: Especially in the early parts of the manga, Urd is very easy to anger. She mellows down post-Lord of Terror though.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: She is very sociable and very alcoholic.
* HiddenDepths: Turns out, she has far more self control than it appears when it comes to her powers. [[spoiler:Her demonic powers would make her ''Hild's equal'', but since she fears to [[DrunkOnTheDarkSide lose any semblance of control if she accessed them]] she [[WillfullyWeak refuses to use them]], [[GodzillaThreshold at least until the situation was that hopeless and she made sure Skuld could stop her if her fears turned out correct]]]].
* HopelessWithTech: Being a {{foil}} to [[GadgeteerGenius Skuld]] and to reflect her status as the Norn of the Past Urd is this, normally Type 2. She does well with the Yggdrasil system though; she is even the system administrator. It's the mechanical stuff that she has problems with, which stands out more because [[TechnologyPorn sophisticated machinery]] is [[AuthorAppeal a common feature in the series]].
* HotBlooded: Is extremely passionate and fiery in many things she does; Skuld assumes her to be foolish due to this trait of hers.
* IAmNotMyMother: Though deep down she finds Hild cool, she is seriously against returning to Hell with her or going full demon.
* ImmortalImmaturity: Can be just as bratty as Skuld.
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: It fits her potion-making talents, she even wears them when she isn't making any.
* LadyOfBlackMagic: She has the [[GracefulLadiesLikePurple graceful appearance]], elemental affinities of [[PlayingWithFire fire]] and [[ShockAndAwe lightning]], and an [[GuardianAngel Angel]] named "World of Elegance". However, she doesn't have the composure, instead being headstrong, short-tempered, and bratty.
* LoveGoddess: Or so she fancies herself to be. Almost if not all of her attempts at planning this result in [[HilarityEnsues trouble for whoever she tries helping]], usually poor old Keiichi.
* MakeupIsEvil: She was depicted with heavy sharp mascara and deep red lipstick when she was posessed by the Lord of Terror. The same applies to her demon self when it is separated from her in a later arc. In the case of the latter it wears off when she went undercover so that Keiichi and Belldandy cannot tell the difference between her and full-goddess!Urd.
* MeaningfulName: Like her sisters. she's named after a Norse Norn, in her case Urd who represents the past.
* MidAirBobbing: Prefers to float rather than sitting on furniture.
* MsFanservice: Provides most of the fanservice in the series with her voluptuous figure and revealing outfits, and she's fully aware of it.
* MysticalWhiteHair: She's a goddess / demon hybrid with long white hair, which makes her more obviously supernatural compared to her sisters.
* NavelDeepNeckline: A consistent feature in most of her wardrobe is a deep V-neckline that reaches her navel.
* NoblewomansLaugh: Can pull the haughty ohoho laugh just like her mother.
* NonhumanHumanoidHybrid: Half-demon on her mother's side. Subverted in that there doesn't seem to be any prejudice on either side and most of the angst comes from Urd herself coming to terms with her demon ancestry, though one flashback to Urd's past in volume 30 showed that some lesser unnamed goddesses might have had a problem with it.
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** She's really, ''really'' proud of being Hild's daughter and she finds her extremely cool, only that she cannot say it out loud for fear of turning into a demon.
*** She even shows jealousy at Hild's familiarity when speaking about Hagal, and [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ACk34v3_36o/UX_w8zCrfEI/AAAAAAAAVdg/NdJILlzUsdk/007.png?imgmax=3000 utterance of pride]] [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_-OhoE50VT0/UX_w9lLfCHI/AAAAAAAAVdo/TzZCzJkEm50/008.png?imgmax=3000 for her.]] It's shown that Hild does not say this to arise jealousy on Urd, but she was rather making an off-hand commentary.
** She's willing to cheat and lie not only for the sake of her sisters, but also for Keiichi.
* OnlySaneWoman: [[CharacterDevelopment Surprisingly gets moments of this every now and then]]. Keiichi is still the main one with her around.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** Whenever Urd lets her demonic side come to the fore, as in the Lord of Terror or the Split Bodies arcs, she becomes significantly less comical and more threatening. Everyone notices, and everyone is terrified when they see it. This generally occurs whenever she is not the comic relief in a story arc (which she usually is).
** The wrath she expresses at learning that [[spoiler:Hild could have died had the coup not happened]] masks her sadness at how close [[spoiler:her mom was to perishing]]. This is as close Urd comes to telling her mom that she loves her, [[SoProudOfYou which is an aspect that is not lost on Hild]].
** Gets flipped on its head during the Split Bodies arc - in an attempt to identify which body is the demon, Keiichi reasons that he can tell the two Urds apart by looking into their eyes. When he tries it, both Urds give him identical {{Moe}} expressions, causing him to freak out because Urd never does "innocent and cute".
--->'''Keiichi:''' "I have seen the stuff nightmares are made of."
* ParentWithNewParamour: Her parents were forcibly separated by the Gate of Judgement, though Tyr later married Ansuz and had Urd's sisters with her. Urd and Ansuz get along just fine, as Ansuz argues that having Urd was more than worth the risk her parents had to go through to create her.
* PercussiveMaintenance: A firm believer of this trope.
** In "I'm the Campus Queen", she kicked the bike she's supposed to repair due to her frustration of [[HopelessWithTech not knowing how to fix them]] and being left behind by other contestants. This technique actually works in her favor.
** She also tried to do this in order to fix Banpei, who anxiously waited for his "girlfirend" to be given sentience by Skuld. Amusingly Urd's hand gets hurt by Banpei's helmet.
%%* PhysicalGoddess
* PlayingWithFire: She can also cast fire magic, though usually via World of Elegance's aid.
* PrettyFreeloaders: Along with her younger sister Skuld. Keiichi is quick to point this out.
* ProudBeauty: She's quite aware of her beauty and status as MsFanservice, and happily shows off at every opportunity.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She's not shy in the slightest and doesn't care much about Keiichi or others seeing her naked.
* ShipperOnDeck: Actively ships everyone and everything she sees fit, namely Keiichi/Belldandy, Skuld/Sentaro (to some extent) and Banpei/Sigel. Her strained relationship with Troubadour probably took part in it.
* ShockAndAwe: This is Urd's elemental affinity, so throwing lightning bolts everywhere is her go-to move, usually whenever something ticks her off. Her ultimate move also involves summoning a magic circle conjuring a violent lightning storm.
* SideEffectsInclude: Though she fancies herself a LoveGoddess, Urd is more given to potions and pharmacology. However, her tendency to go overboard and constant third-party interception (Skuld and Peorth) means that most of the time, none of the stuff she concocts works like it's supposed to, and the effects are even worse when she's not consulted about it.
* SignificantWhiteHairDarkSkin: Urd's brown skin and silver hair cause her to stand out compared to her sisters and the rest of her cast, and were inherited by Urd from her mother, the demon queen Hild.
* SpannerInTheWorks: She and Skuld really like to help Keiichi and are always the first ones to jump the gun for him in his endeavors, though they always end up causing more harm than good.
* StatuesqueStunner: She's not really that tall, but she ''is'' the tallest resident in the temple. She also happens to be drop-dead gorgeous.
* TheTease: She loves acting flirtatiously and being a tease, even when she has no intention of following through.
* TheThreeFacesOfEve: The flirty, fiery, half-demon Urd, goddess of the past, represents the seductress.
* TricksterMentor: Acts as one to Keiichi when it comes to his love story.
* {{Troll}}: The main difference between Skuld's immaturity and Urd's is that Urd likes to make fun of people for fun's sake alone, at times bordering on malicious intent. This can arouse ire even in Belldandy.
* UnwantedAssistance: She tends to get so enthusiastic about progressing Belldandy and Keiichi's relationship that she might as well throw a wrench in the works instead. Curiously, this is played straight even when she ''isn't'' overtly trying to help, since she does absolutely nothing to prevent Skuld from actively interfering in their close moments either.
%%%* VitriolicBestBuds: With her youngest sister Skuld. Used to be this with Mara, and still shows shades of it.
* WeaksauceWeakness:
** As she's part-demon, she has a weakness to a genre of music. Depending on the translation, it's either Austrian polkas or Japanese enka.
** When she's divided into good/evil Urd, her evil side resides within a clone of her made by Mara. Turns out, a clone's body isn't nearly as efficient at handling a goddess's powers, which leads to its defeat.
* WillfullyWeak: Twice over:
** The one time she actually removed her self-imposed restraints on her demon-side, she proved herself [[spoiler:''Hild's equal'']].
** When she took the exam for becoming a First-class Goddess with full access to her power she was given a temporary one, and when she touched the shoulder of Peorth, a full First-class Goddess, ''she left an imprint'' - and that was while wearing the limiters for the human world. And while she passes the exam, she ''chooses'' to stay a Second-class... Because with the First-class Licence came a ban on lying, and she prefers maintaining this ability. [[spoiler:She also didn't take the exam ''at all'' the first time and claimed to have flunked it for her lies for this precise reason]].
* WithFriendsLikeThese: She often does more harm than good. Whenever she's not trying to amuse herself, she can be somewhat reliable. The only person that finds her completely trustworthy when it counts, out of all people, is the equally unreliable Skuld (not even Belldandy).
* TheWorfEffect: As exemplified in the Angel Eater and Niflheim arcs, she is usually the first one to get knocked out despite her strength to demonstrate the power of the villains.
* WorfHadTheFlu: The reason she's so often under TheWorfEffect despite her power is that [[WillfullyWeak she's been holding back her true powers the entire time]], the godly ones because having the license to access them fully would see her banned from lying (and she values this ability for her sisters' sake), and the demonic ones for fear of [[spoiler:[[DrunkOnTheDarkSide losing control]]]]... As happened the one time [[GodzillaThreshold she felt she had no other choice]].

[[caption-width-right:315:[[labelnote:Click here to see Skuld in the TV Anime]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sku_megami.png[[/labelnote]]]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AyaHisakawa (JP); Pamela Weidner (EN–OVA), Creator/SherryLynn (EN–Movie, Mini-Goddess), Creator/KetherDonohue (credited as Annice Moriarty) (EN–TV), Monica Estrada (LA Spanish-OVA), Gaby Beltrán (LA Spanish-Mini-Goddess)

The younger sister of Belldandy, and the third Goddess to appear to Keiichi Morisato. She is the third daughter of the Almighty Tyr, and his second daughter with Ansuz. Skuld has a Goddess Second-Class, Type One (limited) license: a category similar to her eldest sister Urd. Skuld is one of Yggdrasil's system debuggers. She compensates for her lack of magic power with her innate talent for invention, which is known throughout Heaven. Skuld is an engineering genius, capable of building just about anything out of the most mundane parts under most limited resources. She can compute equations and redesign even the most complex engineering blueprints in no time.

She travels to Earth after Belldandy's proximity to Keiichi started creating an increasing number of bugs in Heaven's supercomputer Yggdrasil. At least that was her official excuse, as she believed Belldandy was living with Keiichi against her will. She tried to convince Belldandy to return to Heaven to resolve the bug problem and at the same time with the ulterior motive of alleviating her loneliness. After realizing that Belldandy's relationship with Keiichi was not going to end any time soon, Skuld decides to stay on Earth and act as Belldandy's unofficial chaperone. She is also noted to have a head-butting relationship with her sister Urd.

Her elemental attribute is water, though her reliance on her inventions and explosives made this less apparent at first. She begins to develop her goddess powers later in the story as part of her CharacterDevelopment, including eventually gaining an angel, whose name is Noble Scarlet.
----
* ACupAngst: Sometimes has shades of this despite being (in goddess terms) a kid, mostly whenever Urd ribs her for her lack of maturity. The anime adaptation makes it more prominent.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: The youngest of the main cast, emotionally speaking at least.
* BadLiar: She's nowhere as experienced as Urd in that respect, so every time she resorts to lying, it comes crashing down on her like a house of cards.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: She might not be a proper child – as a goddess, she's potentially thousands of years old already – but she is indeed much younger in mind, body, and experience than her sisters and their friends.
** When the Gate of Heaven prompts Keiichi to [[VisualInnuendo insert the giant key in her chest keyhole]], all that innuendo is actually lost on Skuld, [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FKIlt995TCQ/T_D0JusZQXI/AAAAAAAACZI/gegv1OeFVjw/001.png?imgmax=3000 who is just making]] [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LSxfHXNIyas/T_D0K9AgftI/AAAAAAAACZg/1H_RvM1whuw/004.png?imgmax=3000 a confused expression filled with worry.]] Keiichi, Urd, and Peorth are red as beets, while Belldandy has one of her jealously outbursts.
** This is likely why she is the only main character to [[spoiler:not be corrupted by the forces of evil(Keiichi and Urd were once possessed by the Lord of Terror, Belldandy appears to be so when Hild forced a demonic familiar into her)]].
* ClingyJealousGirl: In a sisterly manner towards Belldandy because Belldandy left Heaven to be with Keiichi.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Played with. Skuld ''can'' use magic, which she mainly uses to build her gadgets; it's shown that this magic is so powerful that it can overcome Mokkurkalfi's nullification, which neither Belldandy nor Urd can match. While she's practicing her elemental manipulation powers with water, Skuld shows that her abilities are enormous if unsupervised by either Urd or Belldandy.
* CuteBruiser: By default since she couldn't use her magic [[spoiler:until she fell for Sentaro and it started to develop]].
* CutenessProximity: Her hotheaded nature will dissipate when she sees cute animals and machines.
* TheCutie: The very reason the people she meets try to approach her. Skuld is a gorgeous young girl, though her wary nature prevents her from appreciating the compliments she gets, considering that she's suspicious of almost everyone she meets.
* DeadpanSnarker: Has her moments in her early appearances (where Urd's recklessness and HairTriggerTemper is at its peak) and in ''Flights of Fancy''.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Skuld's jealousy towards Keiichi and Belldandy's relationship varies every chapter and adaptation – most of the time she butts in from the word go to stop them but it tones down when there are more pressing matters (understandable), when it is her [[CharacterDevelopment focus episode]], or when it [[WhyDidItHAveToBeSnakes involves ghosts]].
* DoingInTheScientist: All those machines she makes are ultimately revealed to be the result of one of her latent goddess powers.
* TheDreaded: As in Urd's entry of this trope, Chrono jumps back at the presence of Skuld while scowling; much like Urd, Skuld also seems to have an ominous reputation in heaven.
* EveryonesBabySister: Invoked. As she finds out in the TV series, Keiichi doesn't treat her any differently even when she's accidentally grown up, meaning that she did recognize that he has boundaries that he always respects regardless of the situation; as such, to Keiichi, Skuld is not any less Belldandy's little sister just because she's temporarily older.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: Skuld hates being treated like a 12-year-old. Unfortunately for her, not only does she look the part, she also acts like it. It doesn't really matter that she's centuries or millennia old in Earth terms, since by heavenly reckoning she ''is'' still a kid, and she does ''not'' take that well.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Urd as mentioned in her entry.
** She is this to Mokkurkalfi. They are both overtly proud [[GadgeteerGenius Gadgeteer Geniuses]] and the little sisters of tremendously powerful beings which they love unconditionally. Incidentally, they both use red battle suits.
* GadgeteerGenius: To reflect her status as the Norn of the Future. She turned a greeting mannequin with that just repeats the same sentence over and over into a fully functioning robot with human level intelligence.
* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: Played with. Skuld is the more reclusive, smart sister by default, but she also has her bratty moments. She also tries to keep Keiichi and Belldandy apart while Urd tries to hook them together.
* {{Hammerspace}}: She can stuff infinite amount of bombs (which are bigger than her fists), batteries, and remote controllers inside her shirt.
* HatesBeingAlone: The main reason she showed up at Tarikihongan in the first place is because her sisters left her alone in Heaven. Though she is extremely runty and proud, she is shown to enjoy the company and friendship of most people she meets as long as they don't treat her as a kid. In particular, she is utterly terrified of being left alone in a fight because of her underdeveloped powers.
* HotBlooded: Skuld has a ''very'' short fuse compared to her sisters. She's not only prone to outbursts, she is also markedly confrontational and trigger-happy. The virtue in all of this comes from the fact that while she measures the consequences of her actions poorly, she is never malicious.
%%% Is this reflective of her mental state in some-way?
%%%* IdiotHair: Only one strand, as oppposed to Belldandy's 4-6.
* IfItsYouItsOk: Skuld doesn't keep any secrets from Sentaro, having openly admitted to being a goddess when asked what she was.
* ImagineSpot: Appears in the form of cutesy crayon drawings in the OVA and the TV series.
* ImmortalImmaturity: Despite being a goddess, Skuld can be a brat.
* IncompletelyTrained: [[labelnote:•]]This entry was formerly under the obsolete "Hero in Training" label; not sure whether to relocate it here or to MagikarpPower[[/labelnote]]She is on the road to becoming one of the most powerful, if not ''the'' most powerful, goddess in Heaven according to Urd... that is, ''if'' she's able to keep her pride in check. It's shown that both Urd and Belldandy are actively working on her, though they are cautious in not filling her with ideas, seeing that Skuld is already very cocky.
* InvertedTrope:
** Much to the contrary of Keiichi and Belldandy's relationship, Skuld is actually the one who is pursuing a relationship with Sentaro and not the other way around. She is the one worrying about advances, what to do or not to do, and making an effort not to alienate him. Though it seems to be working, it's not happening nearly as fast as she'd like. She does get a tremendous boost to her powers as a result, though.
** In spite of both being machine and design geeks, this is not a common aspect that Skuld and Keiichi have that affects their relationship for the better as it should. If anything, they rarely if ever interfere with each others' work. Most of their interactions concern Keiichi's relationship with Belldandy.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: In the OVA, when bugs started forming due to Keiichi and Belldandy's close proximity, Skuld unsympathetically tells Keiichi that it is for the good of the world if he no longer sees Belldandy again. However, she uses this as an excuse to break them up and bring Belldandy home with her. Urd angrily calls Skuld out on how much of a selfish brat she's being.
* LittleMissBadass: She may be small, but she can still kick some ass.
* LovingBully: She is more than willing to slap Keiichi around, but she is no stranger to [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I6bckOWbZWA/T_DqMi6PCcI/AAAAAAAAAFs/IG2vKWUnH20/013.jpg?imgmax=3000 his kindness and love for her]].
* MakingASplash: This is her elemental affinity and it shows from her ability to teleport to anywhere with water, though she never used it initially due to her inexperience with magic. Her water magic develops later on in the series.
* MeaningfulName: Like her sisters. she's named after a Norse Norn, in her case Skuld who represents the future.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: She has the habit of doing this by sheer passion, but her crowning achievement in this trope is her defeat and killing of the [[spoiler:[[EldritchAbomination Lord of Terror]]]] by ''using a magnet to erase the Lord of Terror's floppy disk container''.
* MySisterIsOffLimits: She will fly into a fury if Keiichi gets too cozy with Belldandy, especially in the anime and early on in the manga. Later on in the manga this is toned down as she matures [[spoiler:and as Keiichi and Belldandy finally grow closer]]. It's nearly absent in the OVA.
* NoIndoorVoice: Especially when Annice Moriarty voiced her. This is especially noticeable when she gets angry.
* NotAllowedToGrowUp: Invoked. Though Skuld is shown to have [[http://img15.deviantart.net/6eb2/i/2009/355/b/a/skuld_and_her_angel_by_magifool.jpg grown up]] by design since the [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pc-YqKEXWgY/TmmSkF6kJUI/AAAAAAAAC2k/T0OeE-_AKqQ/008.jpg?imgmax=3000 beginning of the manga,]] Ansuz remarks that she [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Qj8orC-fVt4/T_BYv59XQ3I/AAAAAAAAEl0/vhGEciCUol8/005.jpg?imgmax=3000 hasn't really]] [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n5A0VpnWWB0/T_BY3nGMSDI/AAAAAAAAEmM/UpukTXV7bFw/006.jpg?imgmax=3000 gotten any bigger.]] That's ''her mom'' saying that.
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** She'll never admit it, but she is as close to loving Keiichi as part of her family as she is to Belldandy. One of her character development aspects is her gradual realization of seeing Keiichi as a reliable and caring person.
** She loves Urd as much as she loves Belldandy. If anything, she trusts Urd more than Belldandy does.
* OnlySixFaces: If her inventions have a face they will usually ended up looking like Banpei. Sigel is spared from this because she is a repurposed human-made automaton whom Skuld retrofitted an AI into at Banpei's request.
* OvernightAgeUp: For one episode (1½ chapters of manga), she grew past her "little brat form" and [[ShesAllGrownUp she was more then a match for Belldandy while it lasted.]] And while she was at it, [[spoiler:she began to develop feelings for Keiichi.]]
%%* PhysicalGoddess
* PlayfulCatSmile: Gives a ''very'' mischievous cat smile towards [[spoiler:the diskette-bound Lord of Terror before she erases him with a magnet.]]
* PlotTailoredToTheParty: The episode where she (temporarily) grows to adult size in the anime is a combination of two separate stories in the manga: one where she grows up and Urd shrinks due to problems at Yggdrasil, and one where she unwittingly intercepted an "I love you" declaration from Keiichi. [[note]] She "intercepted" Keiichi's love declaration earlier in the TV series, but nothing came of it, at least not for her.[[/note]]
* PowerIncontinence: Tends to accidentally go overboard when using water magic, which this is caused by her lack of experience controlling them.
* PrettyFreeloaders: Along with her eldest sister, Urd, she is living at the temple without helping with the rent or chores. However, she insists that her many machines are ''very'' useful.
* PubertySuperpower: Starts developing her powers as soon as she learns to love – in other words start maturing and learning to feel for someone outside of her own family.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: Need we say more?
* ReedRichardsIsUseless: She probably could have revolutionized the world a dozen times over if she didn't keep her talents to herself. This is even lampshaded.
* TheResenter: She really dislikes praising Keiichi and considers him a braggart even when the praise is completely warranted. She somewhat mellows out in this respect because of his kindness towards her.
* SemanticSuperpower: Invoked and played with. It's never made clear whether Skuld is actually a true genius regarding her creation of fantastic machinery due to her knowledge, or rather an individual that can achieve mechanical marvels out of sheer willpower and applied magic. Though she might be an actual genius, the speed on which she can build incredible machinery is certainly supernatural. According to her sisters, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to her actual potential.
* SignatureHeadgear: Wears a large hair ribbon around her head in the middle of the manga. Initially functions as a device to resist mind-control during the "Queen Sayoko" arc, she continues to wear it until the end of volume 20. The movie (which was in production during said time period) keeps the ribbon too.
* SoreLoser: After having her robot trapped by Megumi's in the Robot Wars, she took down both robots by detonating her own to make the fight a tie. Later, Belldandy encourages her to shake hands with Megumi as a sign of friendship... only for poor Megumi to get electrocuted by her at the end.
* SpannerInTheWorks: She and Urd really like to help Keiichi and are always the first ones to jump the gun for him in his endeavors, though they always end up causing more harm than good.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Hild quickly notes that Skuld resembles Tyr.
* StuffBlowingUp: On three, everybody! 1, 2, 3: Skuld Bomb Away! She was once exposed to an enchanted object that makes everyone see it as something or someone they can't help but kiss. To her, it looked like a missile.
** In the Hagal Arc is revealed she has an anti-proton bomb capable to ''destroying the entirety of Hell'', for use [[GodzillaThreshold in case the situation became that bad]].
* SweetTooth: Especially ice cream since it's her main energy source.
* TheThreeFacesOfEve: Immature kid sister Skuld, Norn of the future, represents the child.
* TimTaylorTechnology: Most of her inventions are powerful but very impractical.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards Sentaro, such as expressing concern for him when he crashes his bike and then saying that she was ''actually'' concerned about his bike; or glaring at him and calling him an idiot when she admits that she was indeed worried about him instead of the bike.
* UnsoundEffect: The very first power she develops makes her able to stamp words on her target. The power amplifier in the Queen Sayoko arc shows it can become powerful enough to destroy walls.
* ValleyGirl: Spoke like one in the English dub of the 2005 anime and the 2006 Flights of Fancy anime. Granted, she is voiced by Annice Moriarty, who is really good at playing these type of characters. This is most notable in the English dub of the Flights of Fancy episode "Ah! The Goddess's Confession!" when she shouts "THERE'S NO WAY THAT COULD HAPPEN!".
* VitriolicBestBuds:
** With her eldest sister Urd, she constantly fights and bickers with ut also trusts and enjoys spending time with.
** Whenever she's not antagonizing his relationship with [[MySisterIsOffLimits Belldandy]] she is also this with Keiichi, since they are both gearheads.
** Though they are in the road to becoming an OfficialCouple, Sentaro and Skuld are among the best of friends towards each other, and also pre-teens, which means they can misunderstand each other easily.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Skuld is afraid of ghosts. This trait is a plot device to keep her from interfering the drama caused by [[OurGhostsAreDifferent Chieko Honda]] and [[HollywoodExorcism Shiho Sakakibara]] pursuing Keiichi in front Belldandy on separate occasions.
* WrenchWench: She can build amazing devices and even robots out of even the most mundane of spare parts. [[spoiler: This is Revealed to be a form of magic]] late in the manga.
* {{Yandere}}: It is often played for laughs, but she can get carried away in her quest to secure Belldandy's attention for herself (in a non-romantic, little sister way, of course).
* YouKeepTellingYourselfThat: She actually likes Keiichi as a person and she's glad that he and Belldandy are together, not that she'll ever admit it.
