The game gives us a pretty good understanding of what Alita was thinking at the time of the crime; she killed Meraktis to stop him from ratting her out. Nevermind the fact that she was threatening him with a gun before he attacked her.

1.) I see how people can mistake the two, but we shouldn’t say it’s one thing when it’s meant to be the other. 2.) It was never said for sure that Thalassa assumed Apollo had died. Dhurke and the others merely proposed that as a possibility for why she never found him.
