Just For Pun cleanup, cutting misuse.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: To Ned Stark. A trusted right-[[JustForPun Hand]] man to a Baratheon king, relied upon for his loyalty and honest counsel. One of the most noble and heroic characters of the series, but his honor tends to get him in trouble.

* ArrestedForHeroism: He saved Stannis and his men by delivering them supplies while they were starving, however, Stannis's code of honor demanded that Davos pay for his crimes as a smuggler. Stannis knighted Davos for his heroism, but also cut the first finger joints off his left hand. Davos seems to respect Stannis' sense of justice, and not only willingly accepts the punishment (but only if Stannis wields the cleaver himself which Stannis does), so he is entirely loyal to Stannis thereafter.

Removing misuse.

* WouldntHurtAChild: Ish. He draws a distinction between earned discipline and outright abuse -- and won't stand for what he sees as the latter. Heck, deliberately going out of your way to hurt or kill kids ''unnecessarily'', let alone unlawfully, might even approach the closest to a BerserkButton he has, as he [[spoiler: went against Stannis to prevent it, knowing the possible consequences to "betraying" his king to uphold morality.]] Cutting down a young squire in the middle of battle, hanging a young thief (or offering them the Wall) or clipping flippant behaviour across the ear gets his KnightInSourArmor acceptance that such things happen when those are normal results for what the child has been found doing: [[spoiler: burning an innocent kid alive simply for the Blood Magic and expediency's sake? That's way, way too much.]]

Foils need to interact

* {{Foil}}: To House Clegane, a house raised from smallfolk by a powerful lord for their service, adopting a sigil which reflects their humble beginnings, becoming said lord's most loyal retainers.

* {{Foil}}:
** To Melisandre. Mel is a religious fanatic who is devoted to Red Rh'llor, the Lord of Light, a god that is foreign to Westeros. Davos prays to the seven gods of the Andals, which is the dominant religion in most of Westeros. Mel also firmly believes in BlackAndWhiteMorality, while Davos thinks most men [[GreyAndGrayMorality can't be so easily categorized.]]
** To Janos Slynt, another lowborn man raised to nobility. Janos Slynt was in an apparantly honorable position, commanding the Goldcloaks, but earns his position through being corrupt and self-serving, supporting a usurper. Davos was a criminal who used his smuggling skills to help Stannis, leading to his position, and earning more honors through being honest, loyal and deserving. While Davos continues to act humble, feeling undeserving of some of his honors and not using his title often, Slynt after becoming a Lord acts [[SmallNameBigEgo arrogantly]] and insists on being referred to as a Lord. Also, Davos helps save one of Robert's bastards though he knows he risks execution, while Slynt shows no remorse for carrying out a purge of Robert's bastards.
** To Chett of the Night's Watch. Both are lowborn POV characters. Whereas Davos never forgot his roots as he moved upward in society and is HappilyMarried, Chett is consumed with resentment and hatred and seeks to install himself as the "lord" of Craster's Keep and enslave Craster's wives.
