It gets so bad that the character's otherwise minor victory at the end [[spoiler: emancipating herself from her mother]] is downright triumphant.

He personally killed seven of his beloved X-Men with his psychic powers when he had a seizure. He now lives in a metal tank, where Logan keeps him drugged up so he won't endanger anyone else. Throughout the film he sees people he cares about hurt and killed, accidentally harms a lot of innocent people with another seizure, and finally is killed by Logan's EvilTwin, whom he believes to be Logan.

And from there, it goes FromBadToWorse for her, as [[spoiler:she's betrayed by her best friend, raped by several boys she knows, forced to become a prostitute in order to support herself, and then falls prey to a "boyfriend" by the name of Andrei who wants to take her to Sweden to start a new life, only to sell poor Lilya into sexual slavery once she gets there. Things get so bad for Lilya that when Volodya, the younger boy she formed a bond with before going to Sweden and who is now an angel following his suicide, gives her the world as her Christmas present, she rejects it, as the CrapsackWorld she lived in has done its level best to put her through pure hell, and her only escape from this world is suicide]].

Doe-eyed talented and aspiring Classical Cellist and achieving student Anna Nix (Sara Malakul Lane)is charged with involuntary homicide (manslaughter) as she accidentally kills her grotesque step-father who sexually abuses her. She is sent to a maximum security juvinel prison where every party of her being: innocent pure body, mind, soul, virginity, is violated and corrupted by beastly carnal predatory peers and authorities.

** [[{{Ringu}} The movie]]... didn't go ''quite'' so far. The entire second half of the paragraph is left out, and [[spoiler:Sadako was thrown into the well by her stepfather, who was convinced she was evil. He was ''right''.]] Most consider this AdaptationDistillation.
** The prequel movie, ''Ring0Birthday'', which shows Sadako's non-[[EvilTwin demonic]] side is a heartbreaking example of the trope. To list [[HumansAreBastards everything that was done to her]] (none of which was her fault, and none of which she really deserved,) resulting in that [[BewareTheNiceOnes final snap]] that made her accept her [[SuperpoweredEvilSide dark half]], would result in a summary of the entire film.

* ''[[LawrenceofArabia Lawrence of Arabia]]'' is essentially three and a half hours of this trope. The man you see at the film's end is a somber, quiet facsimile of the man we see at the start of the film after all the crap he goes through.

** EmilyWatson, who made her film debut in ''Film/BreakingTheWaves'', has essentially forged a career out of this trope.

* Despite the demon not particularly interested in her specifically since the worst she ever is to it is an impediment in getting what it wants, there is no possible way that Ali makes it through the events of ''[[Film/ParanormalActivity Paranormal Activity 2]]'' unbroken.

* Parodied in the ''PoliceAcademy'' series. Sgt. Laverne Hooks is a small, shy woman, seemingly completely unsuitable for her job as a cop, where she's supposed to act as an authority figure. The antagonists attempt to take advantage of this by driving her to a breaking point. Unfortunately, they invariably succeed, causing her to [[CompellingVoice shout everyone to submission]]. She's always fine afterwards, though.

* Sullivan from ''Film/Halo4ForwardUntoDawn'' is easily the friendliest and most laid-back of Hastati Squad. As of Part 4, he's seen the Covenant massacre the rest of the academy, his roommate has been killed, and he's been nailed in the leg with a needle round.

* It seems this trope happens to a fair number of women in action movies. A textbook example is Sarah Connor from ''TheTerminator''. Consider the hapless, adorable waitress she was in the first movie and compare her to the flat-out psychologically unhinged ActionMom of part two.
