Yuya Sakaki is an eight grader who aims to become an "Entertainment Duelist". He and his childhood friend Yuzu Hiragi attend a duel academy called Yushu Juku in Maiami City. The card game has evolved a popular spectator sport version called the "Action Duel" where a field spell is activated at the start, and special cards called action cards are scattered around the arena. While dueling, the players can wander the arena and play an action card as soon as they find it.

One day, Yuya is invited to face the Pro Duelist Strong Ishijima (who had been set to face Yuya's father three years ago before his disappearance) in an exhibition match. During the duel, Yuya's pendant suddenly changes some of his cards into Pendulum Monsters. Although he's never seen this new cards before, he uses them, and debuts the new Pendulum Summon. As you can imagine, this unique summoning starts attracting some unwanted attention Yuya's way. Leading him into a much bigger adventure into the sport.

The fifth series in the ''Franchise/YuGiOh'' franchise, which first aired on April 6, 2014. (The V in the title represents the Roman Numeral for five.)
