One day, a mutation suddenly appeared in a portion of the population, turning normal humans into "Burnish" who could [[PlayingWithFire generate fire]]. While these Burnish could learn to control their powers, they still had to burn, and would often discover their mutation in [[PowerIncontinence violent explosions triggered by stress]]. Despite the Burnish only wanting normal, peaceful lives, normal humans quickly came to fear them, and any Burnish-caused fires led to violent government responses and lynchings. Tensions rapidly escalated until the Burnish triggered the Great World Blaze, an apocalyptic event that wiped out half the human population.

Thirty years later, society and technology have adjusted to the existence of the Burnish, but they are still hated and feared, with most preferring to hide their identities. Mad Burnish, an aggressive civil rights group from the days of the Great World Blaze, continues to commit large-scale arson to draw attention to the oppression the Burnish suffer, spurring the creation of a special firefighting unit named Burning Rescue. After a confrontation with Mad Burnish, Burning Rescue rookie Galo Thymos is forced to examine what drives the Burnish to such extreme methods.

Authored by the guys behind ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann'' and ''Anime/KillLaKill'', ''Promare'' is the third collaboration project of Director Creator/HiroyukiImaishi and Scriptwriter Creator/KazukiNakashima. Like their former two series, the film is expected to showcase nonstop, over-the-top action sequences. Only this time, it's with firefighters against flame-throwing terrorists.

The setting takes place where humanity has undergone a sudden mutation, and [[ViralTransformation transformed a good portion of the human population into]] [[PowerIncontinence uncontrollable]] [[PlayingWithFire Flame]] [[{{Mutant}} Mutants]], labeling them as “Burnish”; sending half of the Earth into flames.

30 years later, a group of highly developed Burnish titled as "Mad Burnish" began to create riots against their society in voicing their rights to survival; and the special unit of firefighters formed specifically to deal with these mutants-- "The Burning Rescue" is there to stop them.

''Promare'' brings back the [[AllStarCast heavyweight cast and staff]] of past Imaishi works; including Music/HiroyukiSawano on the soundtrack, and welcomes [[CelebrityVoiceActor screen, and stage actors]] who had performance experiences with Nakashima's scripts to mesh a new level of acting performance, and audience experience fit for the big screen.　

Official sneak-peeks were released for ''PROMARE's'' various promotional programs. For the audience who pre-ordered their tickets, or amongst the opening wave of moviegoers were treated with the first wave of BonusMaterial--a special animated short titled ''PROMARE: Side Galo''; revealing what went on a few days before the time setting of the feature film. The second wave of bonus material is also an animated short released starting June 7, 2019, titled ''PROMARE: Side Lio''--retelling the same day of the first animated short; only this time, through the eyes of The Mad Burnish.

For international releases, France is among the first to be licensed, announcing ''PROMARE'' to debut respectively in July 31, 2019, along with Taiwan, where ''PROMARE'' rolled on August 16, 2019. North American license is confirmed to be picked up by [=GKids=], and is scheduled to screen in selected theaters on September 20, 2019 including both subbed and dubbed (by Creator/NYAVPost) versions available to watch.

On the gaming side, [=XFlag=]’s flagship pinball-mechanisim mobile game--''VideoGame/MonsterStrike'' held their ''PROMARE'' x ''Gurren Lagann'' x ''Kill la Kill'' collaboration event from June 4th to June 17th, 2019; bringing all three of Imaishi-Nakashima’s works together for one blast of a celebration.
