Haruka and her friends find themselves in the middle of a war, with multiple factions and rapidly shifting allegiances. Some wish to protect her, while others will go to any length to abduct her. A few important characters include:

* '''Atori''': An AxCrazy PsychoElectro rival of Karasu, also from La'Cryma.
* '''Noein''': The eponymous BigBad, mysterious [[MaskPower masked]] leader of Shangri'La.

* BittersweetEnding: Averted: [[spoiler: After thwarting Noein's plans and restoring balance. Karasu begins to vanish from the timeline, before he leaves Karasu says to Haruka that they will see each other 15 years from now, indicating that her untimely death will not happen in this timeline and that she will live to see the older Yuu]].

And given that Noein was just trying to break Haruka by showing her the worst possible outcomes in order to control her powers, it seems pretty safe to say that she's not fated to die any more than her friends are.]]

* ThemeNaming: The Dragon Knights are all named after birds; ''Karasu'' is the Japanese word for crow, for example.
** Also the names of two of the futures: Shangri-La is a fictional {{utopia}} in the novel ''Literature/LostHorizon'' (as well as a term for utopias in general). The word "lacrima" means "tear," "weeping," or "dirge" in Latin.

* JerkAss: Shinohara. [[spoiler: Not only does he shoot Kōriyama, he actually ''digs his foot'' into the wound [[KickThemWhileTheyAreDown while Kōriyama tries to get up.]]]]

** Also the names of two of the futures: Shangri-La is a fictional {{utopia}} in the novel ''Literature/LostHorizon'' (as well as a term for utopias in general). The lacrimal (La'Cryma) ducts are where tears come from.

** CastAsAMask: [[spoiler: In the dub, Noein is initially voiced by RichardEpcar. When he's unmasked, he's instead voiced by Karasu's dub voice actor Creator/CrispinFreeman.]]

* ChekhovsGunman: Throughout the series, Uchida makes repeated attempts to get in touch with a "Dr. Mayuzumi", apparently one of the scientists in charge of overseeing the Magic Circle Project. [[spoiler: He turns out to be Haruka's father.]]

* CoolOldGuy: Kōriyama. Although some might call him sleazy rather than cool. And he's not that old.

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Noein at one point drapes his arms around Haruka, and also asks her to "[[IsThatWhatTheyreCallingItTheseDays become one]]" with him for the sake of his goals.

* HeyItsThatVoice: Creator/CrispinFreeman as Karasu and Creator/RichardEpcar as Kōriyama. We also have Creator/YuriLowenthal as Yuu - which makes his [[RelationShipVoiceActor entire relationship]] with Karasu rather amusing if you're a ''{{Naruto}}'' fan.
