** Renly adopts the colours of House Tyrell for his Baratheon sigil in the show, with it being a golden stag on a green background — the King in Highgarden, indeed. In the book, he incorporates their sigil and colours in a dozen other ways but always retains the traditional black stag on a gold field as a sign of legitimacy.
** The White Walkers wear black armour very similar to that of the Night's Watch instead of the reflective crystalline armour described in the books.
** Rainbows are a common motif of the Faith of the Seven and a symbol of piety in the books because of their [[RuleOfSeven seven]] colours, but this is entirely absent from the show, likely because their strong LGBT association would inevitably create entirely different implications, especially in the case of a homosexual character like Renly being guarded by a Rainbow Guard in rainbow cloaks.
* Ser Loras Tyrell and his sister Margaery from the novels have brown eyes, but their TV counterparts are blue-eyed. Loras' hair is also dark blonde instead of brown.
* Maege Mormont's hair is already snowy white in the books. Here, it's still brown.
* Tyene Sand in the books has blond hair which she inherited from her mother. [[RelatedInTheAdaptation But when the show made Ellaria Sand as her mother]], Tyene would have to inherit Ellaria's black hair color.
* Jaqen H'ghar in the books has white hair on one side and red on the other. In the series he has reddish brown hair with a white streak.
* Jorah Mormont is described as dark-haired and balding in the books, but played by blond Iain Glen.

* In ''Literature/FireAndBlood'', Rhaenys Velaryon (née Targaryen) had black hair in the books that she inherited from her Baratheon mother. She's silver-haired in the show, presumably to make her visibly Targaryen for viewers not super familiar with the Targaryen family tree. In the book she happens to be another example of the persistence of black hair color in the Baratheon line, which becomes a point of contention almost two centuries later in relation to the succession of King Robert Baratheon, as shown in both the Game Of Thrones books and show. She was initially described as silver-haired in the novellas about the Dance, but it was retconned to black when they were folded into ''Fire and Blood''.
