Rebochan: Nine part review of Final Fantasy VIII. There's a point where it just makes you wonder why you would devote such a ridiculous amount of time to hating a single video game. It ceases to be amusing and just becomes perplexing. I mean geez, I hate Chrono Cross with a passion. Probably way more than he hates VIII. And I wouldn't spend this much time ripping on every stupid plot point, character, and even throwaway NPC dialog as this guy does. Let alone stretch it out over several years of enduring it again and again and again.

witchdoctor: I actually found it quite entertaining, especially the bit about the Magic Lamp Cid gives you. I found that bit to be highly amusing and quite hilarious.

Red Shoe: In one of his vlogs, he points out that it would not make entertaining television if he reviewed games that he did like.

Beforet: Similarly, if he hates VIII so much, how come he has a Siefer figure?

Necrothe Pirate: One of his fans gave him some FFVIII action figures to use in a future episode.

Take V: His goal is to entertain people, not to just show how much he hates the game. That is just a bonus.

Unknown Troper: I'm not so much bothered by the length of the review so much as Spoony going that extra, dangerous step of insulting the game's fans. I wanted to watch the reviews, but once I realized he was also a Fan Hater, I pulled up short. There's a solid line between being amusing and being a twat, and Spoony crossed it the second he started bashing people for their subjective opinions.

Elan: I'd say this was a definite case of Hypocritical Humor. He mocks people for being affected by Aeris' death in FF 7, but then shows himself crying at the opera scene in FF 6 (and starts choking up whenever he mentions Aeris afterward). He admits that he loved the early games in the series, then did a review solely dedicated to bashing the first one in his trademark style as an April Fools joke. He claims to utterly despise "Eyes on Me", but ends his review with an actually really well done and somewhat touching music video set to that very song. I think he's mocking himself for hating the game much more than he's mocking others for enjoying it. And the commentaries make it clear that there are genuinely no hard feelings.

s5555: Cliffhanger? He specifically states in the commentary that he will be on his new brother's home.

Unknown Troper: I found some aspects of the review confusing. Like the bit where he tries to "ruin" the romance story between Rinoa and Squall by essentially pointing out that she was with Seifer for a while before she was with Squall. ....yeah, so? Graphically describing sex between a girl and her ex in an effort to somehow "ruin" a later relationship just smacks of immaturity. And I don't even get how it is supposed to "ruin" that relationship, unless you're somehow Squicked by the idea of a person having sex with two separate people over time.

  • Well... you know... there's the possibility that it's... you know... a joke and not meant to be taken seriously? Just saying...
  • There's actually some truth to that last statement, as lots of Kannagi fans have been reminding us lately. But yeah, that part of the review felt really out of place.

Akimi: Can someone explain why the mention of Little Kuriboh's cameo in the Captain America 2 review was removed? The reason given was "no he doesn't", but he quite clearly does. I'm just confused, is all.

Nithael: I don't know, maybe the guy read this as "in the end of the [first] Captain America review", or maybe he meant that Little Kuriboh doesn't make a cameo as much as he provides a voice, but that would be silly. If it's not done yet, I'll put it back.

Akimi: Thanks. I was going to, but I couldn't figure out where it had been.
