Andyzero: This seems to be part of a larger trope I've observed. When the hero or heroine listen to the obvious villain who is trying to make them doubt themselves or someone else. This is especially stupid when said villain questions the heroes morality while themselves gleefully doing far worse.

Janitor: Strong stuff there, Andy. Go for it!

Robert: That's the Hannibal Lecture, or a close relative.

Janitor: Huh. Yes. What Robert said. My trope-fu has become weak.

Morgan Wick: Sounds like our heroine has the Idiot Ball.

Fleur: It is a very specific use of the Idiot Ball. I think it deserves to be a separate trope for that reason. Perhaps, it could be formulated in a less gender specific manner. Othello is a male character who uses this particular Idiot Ball. In real life, this trope can lead to Honor killings in some cultures. The perpetrators of these crimes tend to be male. I did not think Pride and Prejudice is a good example of this trope. I added a remark explaining why.
