Sijo: There might be some Truth in Television in this. First, since Reality Is Unrealistic, most people would, at first, simply assume that the whole Reveal is just a scam or publicity stunt. (Heck, some people still don't believe in The Holocaust!) Second, even AFTER the majority of the public is convinced, their natural impulse would be to return to their normal lives as much as they can as fast as they can, as can be seen in the aftermath of disasters and wars. And you can bet somebody would try to find ways to exploit things to their advantage (Hollywood, usually.)
In addition, any Genre Savvy invaders would know that allowing the public to live contentedly is the best way to reduce chances of rebellion.
