• Star Trek The Next Generation suffered through a mediocre second season, and due to the writer's strike, culminating in a clip show as the season finale. Ugh. The Borg were introduced in season 2, and it was planned they'd return for an "thrilling finale"... which got shifted into season 3, and the show took off from there.

Because this trope is for shows that had a good first season, then a weak second. The Next Generation didn't have a particularly good first season either, and many view the second as an improvement (not a big improvement, but still an improvement).

I saw a Let's Play of Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame. The part with the eponymous shadow and flame was very Guide Dang It!, and some of the traps were cheap but "atrocious"? Seriously? I haven't properly played it, but from where I'm standing it looks better (again only from the standpoint of a Let's Play) than the 1989 Prince of Persia. I'm not deleting it, just conferring.
