Nornagest:

The difference in US and UK perceptions of apparent Patriotic Fervor is the reason why Captain Britain is pretty much unheard of in his 'home' country, considered equal parts sad and hilarious when people know he exists.

Captain Britain seems pretty sad and hilarious to this American, too, and not for the expected jingoistic reasons. Captain America only gets a pass because he was created in the Forties, when Patriotic Fervor was almost a national pastime, and because he's been continuously adapted ever since; you could never get away with making an identical character now. As Rob Liefeld can confirm.

Mind you, most of us Brits find Captain America rather sad and hilarious too.

Chandagnac: It's a shame, because his comic book is actually very good (the original Captain Britain series, Excalibur and the current Captain Britain and MI:13 series are all excellent- I'd rank them up there with some of the best comics that Marvel has ever produced.) But British people don't read a lot of comics anyway, so it's not really surprising.
