Gemmifer: I find the name somewhat tasteless. If this were a recent tragedy on one would dream about naming a trope like this.
Anonymous Mc Cartneyfan: But it isn't recent. It's distant enough that we can look at it almost dispassionately, but still well-known enough that we know what we're playing with. And it's a clear pun. (Whereas I'm a Humanitarian is an example of TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Vocabulary.)
Man Without A Body: The name was my idea. It was generally considered at ykttw that it wasn't Too Soon to make a joke on it, and most people thought it was pretty funny, but if it offended you, I apologize nonetheless.
Gemmifer: I'm not offended. Being "offended" is such a manipulative, holier-than-thou tactic. I make cynical jokes too. I just read about the Donner expedition and I was feeling really sorry for them. And I don't like the concept of Too Soon - either tragedy is funny, no matter when it happened or it isn't. Therefor I complained.
Johnny E: If anything I'd have thought there could be a better pun made out of "Donner party" and "Doner kebab". Or maybe one of them and "Donor"... "Donor Kebab"?
Vree: Before I found out that we have had this page I was thinking of calling this "Best Pals Cannibals".
