FermiParadox launched as InvisibleAliens: From YKTTW

Working Title: Explaining The Fermi Paradox: From YKTTW

Micah The following things were mentioned in the YTTTW without enough detail to copy directly, and I'm not familiar enough with to write them up:

  • Stephen Baxter's Manifold trilogy
  • The Heaven Makers by Frank Herbert
  • The Ultimate Marvel line (what did Gah-Lact-Us eat?)

Comment that doesn't strictly belong here: I'm not sure whether or not "What Fermi Paradox" is a trope - the one where aliens turn out to be so common that it doesn't make much sense at all for us to have ever been unaware of them. The DC, Marvel and Stargate universes would be examples. --Document N
Comment on main trope description: OTHER common reasons that seem to get overlooked in the "Why haven't aliens contacted us" discussion...
  • Extraterrestials don't have technology more advanced than ours. Why do we always assume that someone "out there" is going to be more advanced? They could be relying on similar techniques & technology, which is grossly inefficient. And that's assuming that their technology would be compatible with ours or able to be detected by ours!
  • Space travel across the galaxy really is impossible. They're there, but can't reach us or don't know we exist.
  • They don't know we exist. It's a huge universe.
  • They don't CARE we exist. Think of how short-blindered humans are in general.

Micah: Removed the following sentence from the bottom of the page: "A note should be made on modern fantasy shows, like Charmed or Buffy, where we known that they universe is big like ours, but there rarely the possibility of alien life (or even using magic to reach far planets for colonization) is adressed." Insofar as I understand it, which is not entirely, it seems to be covered by Like Reality, Unless Noted.
