Midas Mint: Suggestion for a new pic: one of Denise Richards as Dr.Christmas Jones from The World is not Enough. This troper saw the movie w/this troper's sisters and both balked at Bigtits' attempt to feign smarts. Mayhaps this pic. trimmed down: she even looks like, "duhr".

Silent Hunter: How long does it take to qualify as a surgeon in the USA? Because I've just seen the 25-year-old Jewel Staite as the new medical officer on Stargate Atlantis. I don't yet how her character's age, but she sounds like she could be an example here. Mmm, Jewel Staite...

Shire Nomad: See Doogie Howser MD for the answer. In theory, it's possible to be a licensed MD at age 18, provided you storm through your schooling fast enough. (Although a) no one has ever pulled it off to my knowledge, and b) the young doctor is unlikely to be taken seriously.)

25 is more realistic; there are seven-year programs you can enter straight out of high school that will get you a bachelor's and a medical degree by completion, which would happen at age 25 assuming you got your high school diploma at age 18. Most medical schools in the US take four years for just the MD, so if you skipped a grade somewhere or got your bachelor's in three years, that would work too.

Silent Hunter: And that would qualify you to carry out an operation involving opening someone's skull?

Sci Vo: I think that you'd need a board-certified specialization for something like that. How many more years it would take depends on the specialty. Applied Phlebotinum could make up the difference in Speculative Fiction.

Silent Hunter: Unless she got high-grade medical training via the SGC (which is more than possible), she qualifies. She's in until proven otherwise.

Big T: From what I can tell, it would apply anyways. It would just be a justified trope

Silent Hunter: Indeed. We got a Teen Genius explanation.

INH: The youngest doctor in the real world is Balamurali Ambati, an eye surgeon. He was 17 when he became a doctor and 20 when he started practicing (he would have started practicing 2 years earlier if not for some legal troubles). So, yeah, something like this is possible for a Teen Genius.

Silent Hunter: Need a suitable picture for this. One of these characters- in a lab coat. Preferably anime, since that's a given for these sorts of articles. Suggest the caption "Test Tube Babe".
Silent Hunter: Yanked:
  • Just because she can shoot aliens doesn't make her hot. Her body is merely average and that hairstyle makes her look like Hillary Clinton.

From the Sam Carter discussion on the grounds that a lot of people would disagree.

Silent Hunter: Pulled examples that go better in Hospital Hottie.
Changed picture: as hot as this Samantha Carter is, the pic itself doesn't do anything to indicate that she's a scientist. Linked for accesibility: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/SamanthaCarter.jpg
Russian scientists hold contests to find "Miss Atom"? That name sounds kind of superheroic to me. Is there more going on there than meets the eye?
Fallingwater: any chance we could yank all the "seconded", "this troper agrees" and such? While I do understand beauty and hotness is subjective, I imagine most people couldn't care less if Anonymous Troper #95732 agrees that someone is very hot. I'd yank them all myself, but I'd rather not be flamed by half the wiki members. :P
